  • I cant get this tone on my mark v, is he using a overdrive in this video? o.O

  • Dear Santa...

  • Just get a good smart phone

  • @humblejumpify Smartphones don't come with condenser mics on them, so... yeah.

  • @dioseolo True--But the recorded audios or videos are not meant to be used with pro tools or Logic there just to keep and catalog ides for real recordings. If you have a decent smart phone it will record your riffs or guitar clips at a reasonable quality and definitely provide great resolution for videos.

  • @humblejumpify "But the recorded audios or videos are not meant to be used with pro tools or Logic"

Did I say they were? No. I just stated a fact: No smartphone will record with the sound quality the Q3 has. I know, because I own both a smartphone and a Q3, and there's no comparison.

  • I have this camera and it is shit. The quality sounds nothing like this and the batteries last no longer than 3 hours.

  • I am have been trying to buy a great portable recorder. I am sold!

  • What was the settings for the video, audio, scene, and mic levels here? :)

  • Can anyone PLEASE tell me what scales he's playing around with from 1:38 until 2:46 I find it having the most incredible vibe

  • John seems like a very nice guy...never could stand his guitar playing however

  • so he has a delay pedal on the amp right?

  • zoom zoom ZOOM! make my heart go "boom BOOM" my super nova girl XD

  • Not 100% good quality video, but very very good sound

  • I AM JOHN PETRUCCI AND I AM YOUR GOD! 1:38

  • that's a cute boogie at the back, anyone knows what head is that?

  • @moronslave custom mesa boogie mark 5 i think, (custom looks, standard head) :P

  • @joniiboy Yes, Mark V in Custom Quilted Bubinga...

  • 00:37 lies!! you instantly know 10,000 places on the fretboard and ways to play because you are john petrucci!!! :P

  • bla bla bla lool

  • 2 things

  • GREAT camera...check out X OPUS

  • this should come in handy! my iphone is full of random riffs!

  • Bald

  • He is nothing without Mike Portnoy.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY I LOL'D SO HARD

  • @MlKEPORNTOY wtf are u saying?

  • @MlKEPORNTOY

no, Portnoy is nothing without him

  • emgs....over rated just listen to those pickups sing :) ...people rely to much on active rater than theyre set up

  • SHIT, what a quality on that little thing, gotta get one!

  • You couldnt overlap one sound over another on that? Could you?

  • He'd better start using Rogain quick because the hair is definitely starting to go on top....

  • Can I record me plowing my gf with it?

  • @2020jonnybravo HAHA your comment gave me a good laugh. Thanks.

  • @2020jonnybravo LOL High quality squeltchy noises on condensor mics, now that's capturing the moment !

  • I want to buy it in Brasil, unfortunately this will never happen

  • Does the unit save audio and vid on one file? can they be split??

  • @4x12 You can bounce as "audio only" and convert the video as "mute", so technically you can split them right in the Q3HD's software (HandyShare)

  • shit! this is HD recording in a small stuff!

    \m/_

  • 1:19 ... well, this is an HD quality virgin ...

    xD

  • thats why I got an iPod :-)

  • irony when zoom q3hd doesnt have zoom ability when video recording xD

  • Looks like JP is getting bald.

  • has anyone transcribed this???

  • @guitarplayer4287 I can play it by ear now, but I havent transcribed it yet.

  • I'm a musician who recently picked up the Q3HD because of it's sound capabilities. I haven't had a chance to test it with live music yet, however I was able to record some fireworks from up close the other night. The sound is great!

Search for "Zoom Q3HD Test during firework show" or just look on my page.

The 53 second video was shot with the gain set at high

and the 2:11 video was shot with the gain set at auto.

  • nice guitar where can i get one!

  • what song is the solo from!?

  • @JayMan746 Damage Control by John Petrucci.

  • who can tell me the song that was playing in the background and beginning?

Thank you Jonh for that awesome performance :D

  • @elgordonet20 Damage Control - John Petrucci from his solo album Suspended Animation.

  • The hd cam reveals....uh oh.....he's losing his hair.

  • I use my phone.....

  • If this video was made 100% with the Q3HD, what camera did you use for the segment where you were holding and talking about the Q3HD? Do you have 2 of these units? Also, when you are playing the guitar it seems there's a Q3HD lying on top of the amplifier. oooh, I'm confused. Regardless, it's nice guitar playing.

  • @Felixcastillo Yeah he has a couple of them, I'm pretty sure it's all 100% the Zoom Q3HD

  • Man he looks just like Jesus!!! Oh wait he is!

  • I'm sure John needs to analyze his technique, as if it wasn't flawless enough. What a sign of true modesty.

  • You don't need that shit, cell phones in these days have good video recordings features, some of them also record in HD, just use your cell phone, and save your money for more important equipment.

  • how much doeas that thing cost?? i'm seriously thinking about gettin one

  • @livio1396 299.99

  • kinda useless, isn't it?

  • John Petrucci could play a Squire and it would sound amazing, hes the best.

  • @damienrouse don't fuck with Squire dude , that's one of my guitars :)

  • @ArianeQube Well....... dont buy imported bullshit

  • @damienrouse Not true. Have you heard Yngwie on a Gibson or Paul Gilbert when he's not warmed up. There are a lot of variables that go into performing at John, et al's level. He is amazing but don't delude yourself into thinking the gear and proper/ample warm-up don't make all the difference in the World!

  • things seems pretty cool

  • reminds of why I cut my long hair...this camera seems pretty good.

  • Steve vai...n then my god.... Ohh i am sure gonna buy it now :P

  • That guitar looks delicious.

  • holy crap that solo just blew my mind....

  • John should use it for body building techniques as well

  • Chuck Norris' Nemesis

  • obviously he doesnt use that thing look how he talks .... i use this ....thing.... for....record hahahaha

  • @TheHubaez Indeed. If he wants to record himself he is going to use a profesional camera made to record music plugged in a computer.

  • John Petrucci... The only man Chuck Norris views as an equal.

  • I love how he has just a random jaw dropping solo right in the middle of talking about the video. GO JP!!!

  • i bought the thinge cause of this video,, and i been recording solos, its my new hobby.haha. I have some good demo videos on my channel if anyone is curious about buying it.

  • 2:36 - 2:39 = 8=======D

  • I can see the day , I can see a way

When another one sees who we truly are

Meant to be , who we are meant to be

Be , who we are truly meant to be . ( Partial Lyrics of ) SEARCH :

"LOST" Original Rock song video using ZOOM Q3HD

  • i wish he would make a youtube accnt. and upload his videos there.....

  • @1995mats No it's got a high quality condenser microphone in it on the top which normal cameras don't have ;-)

  • I see they used two of these cameras for this vid (one from the front and one from the side). For sure they only used the audio from one of them (they would sound very differently, due to the angle to the speakers being different), so they 'tricked' a bit. Anyway, to me it looks like a small portable HD camera with good quality microphones, so it's nothing fancy. Anyone knows the price nowadays?

  • what song is it on the video???

  • @tohen4 No particular song I think, just an improv

  • @tohen4 oh you meant when he's talking, it's called Damage Control, off his solo album Suspended Animation

  • i have a feeling what he just did is a preview to his upcoming 2nd solo album.

  • thats the most perfect practice session i have ever heard.....

  • what model amp is that anyone know ?

  • @dooshbayg Mesa Boogie Mark V - you can find a full list of his gear on his website.

  • I guess that the most expensive thing on the video is Petrucci's skills! I would gladly trade a million of his signature guitars just for his skills and talent!

  • Nice skills Jesus

  • The guitar doesn't make the player, the player makes the guitar.....

  • @Yorgos888 the luthier makes the guitar ;)

  • @Tomd1013

but the player makes the sound :P

  • @Yorgos888 EXACLY! :P musicians, schouldnt be afraid of there instruments, u schould attack it!

  • @Yorgos888 actually ernie ball makes the guitar xDD

  • @Yorgos888 However, this guitar player has also made this universe :|.

  • so whose forearms are furrier.... Satch ? or JP ?

Or.... George "The Animal" Steele ? ;-p

Oh, and nice rig, btw, JP. Pretty axe and niiiiiice amp, too. ;-)

  • why was the audio from camera and not the q3HD? lamesauce!

  • The past pope who is a saint now, is called JP II... well, now we know who's the first

  • john malsmteen hahahaha

  • I am SOLD

  • god john knows hd stuff!

  • john needs to sign back up with ibanez so portnoy will return and dream theater can keep making the world go round.

  • @Onamonapiafied sorry but i don't see why john would return with ibanez and why this would bring Portnoy back into the band ? but that's your opinion and that's ok ! have a great day man !

  • @Vinterheart haha i know, it's me being a wishful thinker, BUT my reasoning behind it: his musicman's sound too thin (live and on album) which 'I' feel kills his tone which effects the whole band (rudess mentioned this about jps guitar too) and I 'feel' like portnoy wasn't vibing the music any more and got bored over time (he's still jamming with other bands, so it's not like he got burnt out). (1/2)

  • @Onamonapiafied SOOO I'm HOPING JP will be like "Whoa! I forgot that Ibanez sounds waaay fatter and awesomer! Check out THIS tasty riff!" and Portnoy will be like "Holy bong load dude! Lets get some systems worked out for all this chaos!" and then the world you know, keeps goin' round. thanks for respecting my "opinion." haha.

  • @Onamonapiafied I love Ibanez and I have never played a musicman, but I am sure that JP has his own very good reasons to have switched guitars other than just having his own signature model

  • @Aristowi im not really implying he switched for the reason of having his own signature models (I'm sure ANY guitar company would accommodate that for him). IMO i feel he did it for ease of technical achievement, but at the sacrifice of tone. I've played a musicman before back to back w/ an ibanez and it 'sounds' pretty thin, but the neck is like butter, it's fast. musicman guitars has its place, i just don't feel it's for DT. I feel JP should have a guitar that sings and ibanez does that great.

  • @Onamonapiafied His Ibanez's were great but honestly his Music Man guitars and Company in general just make better instruments in every other way.

  • @rengoku23 in every 'other' way: what qualities is most important for a guitar? haha, an endless subjective question for life. for me, if i had a $100 poop guitar that sounded better than a $1000 awesome guitar for recording, i'd use the poop guitar.

  • @Onamonapiafied well it's sure that there is a difference in sound with an album like Awake for example and black clouds but there is a lot of things for this change of sound. there is the pick-ups, the amps, the production ( even if all there albums have an AWESOME production lol ) the mix, the woods that the guitars are made of, but after all of this it's really a question of taste and a personal opinion. Ibanez have great guitars and Musicman man too so it's all about preferences!

  • @Vinterheart those true true true, those are all credible variables for sound change, but i highly recommend playing a JP musicman next to an ibanez. the difference is way more apparent when they're played back to back, though it's kind of like finding out santa claus isn't real :\

for aweeesome use of a JP musicman check out andy james devil's day

  • @Onamonapiafied yeah Andy james is one hell of a guitar player ! oh and by the way i have order the musicman JP BFR in 7 string so maybe that santa claus is real after all :P but in this case I Am santa claus :P lol have a nice day !

  • @Vinterheart well santa claus aside that's pretty rad, that'd probably be my second choice; first being a ibanez prestige 7 string. it's really all on what you want from a guitar.

  • Who cares about the recorder!? Its great just listening to John play! Though I do need something like this so maybe ill buy. If the price is in reason

  • John's getting old haha, his hair seems to be thinning a bit on top c:

  • I don't know but i feel that what he was playing is from their next album

  • We've posted a new video shot with the Q3HD. The sound quality is awesome! Click our name to check it out.

  • play the vid and hold the number 8 key on your key board you might die laughing.

  • WITH ZOOM Q3HD, MAYBE JOHN COULD RECORD AND SHARE HIS BODY BUILDING TECHNIQUES.. JUST A THOUGHT.. XD

  • seems to be a nice and easy to use recorder - I already have it in mind. Thanx for the vid.

  • Oh, on this video you can really hear what is the original tasty Petrucci sound.

  • i love how when he was jamming the product was sitting on top of the amp head...WTH?!?! i thought for sure he was gonna tell us that spot was filmed with the product.

  • What strap is that?

  • @MrSvjoe Normally he uses DiMarzio straps. I don't know for sure if this is one of them, but I guess so.

  • I'm repeating 1:38 - 2:46 over and over again. I sure as hell hope this will be on the new album!

  • @shadowspy2 screw that, i want him to use it on his next solo album!

  • @ironwolg Thats ok, I just hope it's part of a new track!

  • @shadowspy2 you and me both, that was a sexy solo

  • whatever he is playing needs to be in a new dt song!!!!!!!!!! the god rocks

  • what's the name of song at 0:06

  • @chinczyk191 Damage Control, from his solo album Suspended Animation.

  • @chinczyk191 damage control

  • im impressed at his licks... than the camera.. btw does anyone know what licks/riffs he was playing? or probably something he was working on? i mean. i listened to every dream theater song, and can't say that any came to mind when he was playing. nor suspended animation

  • @aznguitar probably some new material for his solo album or dream theater =)

  • oh shit, God is balding.

  • i was making a song a minute ago, it takes a lot of effort to come up with cool sounding riffs and petrucci just blows my mind with these guitar things in this video which he probably just improvised -.- DAMN YOU!

  • I came.

  • My now stained underwear tells me that those licks are from the new album

  • I completely ignored the product and focused primarily on his playing there

  • @thegreatgarry agreed, apparently zoom didn't think of the effect of petrucci's playing have on the audience lol

  • I'm sure it's on of the solo for the next DT album, it's very structured

  • Maybe that riffing is from his new album he's making!

  • yeah this sounds way too structured to be an improv

  • beautiful guitar :o ....

  • 1:38 OMG this must be stuff from his new instrumental album!

  • The device looks like a flop to me...

  • Jesus is still alive!!!

  • nice solo!

  • you can hear the steve morse in it man

  • New Album Preview = 1:38 - 2:48 :-O OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

  • @FranFerraris or possibly his new solo album :B

  • @FranFerraris: There's no proof at all that those riffs could be from the new material. Its possible that John is just noodling to demo the product.

  • @petruccirocks02: you probabbly watch every one of his interviews and guitar videos like I do and you have to admit this riffs sound waaaaay different than the ones he's been doing earlier this year (improv, not BC&SL)...

  • @FranFerraris lmaoooo... i wouldn't be surprised if he planned on using these licks...

  • Is he getting even better? It's hard to tell now... I think he's still improving holy shat...

  • Wow, that's the best playing and tone I've heard from him in a while! More definition, less gain. Finally :-)

  • Gold hardware? Ugly! :-)

  • koa bfr?

  • personally i love sc and bcasl. i dont love them as much as i love metropolis pt. 2, six degrees, and train of thought, but im still absolutely in love with the latest two. sc tops bcasl in my opinion though

  • @biloxi1314 The 2 masterpieces are IMAGES AND WORDS and AWAKE, this was the real DT. I am a fan since 91, that's the difference...

  • @panamanian911 If you noticed, I didn't single SC (as much) as BCASL, just for the fact it IS very proggy (thinking In the Presence of Enemies, The Ministry of Lost Souls, and Forsaken was neat too) but had very heavy elements with it as well (Constant Motion, Dark Eternal Night)... so I guess my main complaint with that album is with the lyrics.

@BassGloS Yes! That was one of the problems, they made it too... loud, there's a bunch of unneeded sound

I'm also hoping for more Myung on their next.

  • I love that sound!!....I couldn't take my eyes off you John......I love you so much!!!!....XXXXX

  • I love that sound!!!!......and I couldn't take my eyes from you John.....I love you so much!!!!......XXXXXX

  • One person disliked this. That one person sucks many, many balls. >:(

  • @Metastophales0 YES. EXACTly. Their metal is GREAT, their prog is GREAT. Black Coulds was (somewhat, not really, still great) disappointing, just because the songs were like this:

    1. Metal

    2. Metal

    3. Slow song

    4. Metal.

    5. (Mostly) Boring

    6. Metal with some proggy stuff

Even with TOT though, they managed to have that prog feel, but with Black Clouds, I feel they somewhat lost it (Also, the backround guitars weren't my favorite, I would have rather listened to Myung's bass)

  • @MrMyungFan Then what about Systematic Chaos? For me, that was the worst DT album (following your criteria, that is). They still have proggy stuff all over but they change around that. I'd rather have them change than stay the same.

  • @MrMyungFan

    Agreed man,

As I posted somewhere else, I don't think they can compose another Instrumedley from what they wrote after 2006...

Well they can, but the philosophy of stuff is different.

Music is not as balanced as it was!

It's not like riffs don cut it anymore, they do, but the atmosphere of sound is somehow spoiled, for my taste too complex, overreverbed and noisy...

    ... and I miss Myung's wild bass lines :(
