The Appletree Theatre was in actuality an L.A. studio project and the brainchild of brothers John and Terry Boylan. The siblings, originally from New York City, relocated to Los Angeles, CA in the late 1960s where their project was supported by a huge assortment of local session musicians including notable jazz guitarists Larry Coryell and Eric Gale.
Wonderful...a very old fav of mine, this whole LP was certainly cutting edge in it's day and it STILL holds up today. VERY unknown and VERY cool......
One of the greatest albums of all time. I played this masterpiece religiously on the radio in the US in the summers of 1968 & 1969 on my Man of Constant Sorrow program FOCUS COLLAGE, which you can hear & read more about on my website midnightdread.
A friend bought it on a whim at a K Mart-like outlet. I never saw another copy anywhere. Listeners couldn't find it either. Up there with Pepper, Tim Buckley's Goodbye & Hello & Brian Wilson's SMiLE as the greatest 'pop' lp ever.
Why haven't there been questions raised in Parliament about this album. "Mr Speaker, does the house not realise that this legendary LP has never been given the worlwide recognition it deserves (never mind a worlwide CD release)?"
Also a big fan of "You're The Biggest Thing In My Life" and "Hightower Square." I own an original copy on vinyl and would never part with it. One of the best of the obscure-but-revered records of that period. Definitely worth investigating. Skip "Brother Speed" if you check it out!
Whatta fabulous tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had this song in my mind daily for forty(40) years! I never tire of it; it is so beautiful & meaningful. Thank you to the Boylans for it & the rest of "Playback!" (UMaine, '70) I wonder if Louise IS home............
too nice
