  • my LP stays in tune

  • If that is "bridge clean" I didn't stick around to listen any further cuz it was only going to get worse

  • You an hear the ping in the nut when tuning. You need to have your nut properly slotted...

  • buy a decent amp son

  • You must have put new strings on it... Hey check out the Tone Pros Kluson Tuners.. You will LOVE THEM!!

  • @guitarRiffs13 this is my 2006 custom shop 1960 historic reissue. The pickups are now Sheptone blue skies. I don't have access to this YouTube so I apologize for the long wait time

  • do you recommend this one in the bridge ? i am thinking of buying this one in the bridge and a seth lover in the neck in my epiphone les paul.what do you think ?(you have a Crazy tone, love it)

  • Sexy guitar dude

  • @krisgoldmusic what guitar is that??

  • hows the clean

  • thank you for your kind response !

though it's very true that they don't sound alike , similiar was the term i used .

  • beautiful guitar and you play real nice man !

your video offering overall was a nice veiw , enjoyable atmosphere and great ambience i thought !

those 1960's have a unique tone with alot of live harmonics , though all lespaul's sound similiar i suppose .

  • @TheFlameTop You will never find two Les Paul's that sound alike. Unlike Strats or Tele's.

  • dude i did not click on this link to watch some one tune

  • is it just the camera or are the pickups not as clear as i expected?

  • it's important to stretch the strings a bit while tuning, pull up on the string with the right hand, tune, pull up again, check tuning, etc. Also, if the guitar is still going out of tune, the nut may need some graphite. It's common for strings to catch in the nut, even if it's slight, it will hamper tuning. You may tune a string, but as soon as you bend that string, it will catch in the nut just enough to make it sharp or flat.

The other issue is making sure the intonation is set.

  • Try a callaham bridge. The hardware is important, their bridge is great.

  • please...can't you tune up before making the video....... arrrgh

  • @lostlemming apologize dude, i had a guy work on this guitar around the time of this video, he made it worse lol the nut is crazy and full of kinks, i did tune up before the video, it just slips so easily, i have since had the guitar repaired, plays like a dream once again. my house was recently broken into, this was one of the two they left, thankfully!

  • @kristofferpence R U on Facebook?Did you post that you would be out/away at the time of the break in anywhere?People/thieves look for that.Sorry about your loss.I'd be out hunting with a machette for the/those assholes.

  • @MrJohnnyDistortion Yes I am on Facebook, and I was at school, they were staking out the house for about a week to get my family's schedule down.

  • @kristofferpence Facebook criminals befriend people, then when they post out of town or going out all night they break in.How do you know they were staking out your home for a week? And,why didn't anyone notice people staking you out?WTF.Were the scumbags caught?

  • @MrJohnnyDistortion We realized after the fact that every night we would come home our side gate was open. i remember we were at a barbeque at my aunts house the night before and i went around to take the trash out and the gate was open. Then i left for school in the morning and my mom went out to the store later, she wasn't gone long. they came in a window in our backyard. The garage was open when she got home, i was so furious. stole 12,000 worth of my shit, ONLY mine

  • @MrJohnnyDistortion they stole the following: Canon t1i camera, 1959 gibson les paul reissue with sheptone BK pickups, LsL saticoy that i had CUSTOM MADE just for me with a hand picked neck and body and a hand shaved neck, a 2006 gibson les paul DC pro, a 1996 Epiphone les paul birdseye ( wasn't mine), a 2006 Fender Telecaster reissue, a 1994 takamine FP 360s. They left me with almost nothing bro, im so thankful to at least still have this les paul in the video, ive had it fixed and its my baby

  • @kristofferpence It's a little late but please Google Brickhouse Security. They have devices such as wall warts that are motion activated and take photos of anyone entering the room.I bet the assholes that did this to you know you or someone that does.Pisses me off when someone thinks that they can take what you've worked for.Have state officials check in state and out of state pawn shops, craigslist and any sites you can think of.Criminals aren't that smart.Bastards!

  • Nice strap LOL

  • @JesusNiettoTalkz haha what you trying to say lol, i cant use a vintage style with old fabric? haha i know, i dont have it anymore, it was stolen along with 12,000$ in other gear from my house, this guitar wasnt stolen, but the 59 with sheptones in my other video was stolen, was my favorite, but hey i cant do a thing about it

  • @kristofferpence oh dude i'm sorry to hear that, well, to read lol, btw, is this your other account or something? It's funny how they took the strap and not the guitar hahah, they're """good people""" though D:

  • that's your number one? What does number 2 sound like?

  • @LesterPaul01 lol this is me, i dont have access to this account anymore, ive had the nut worked over, full of kinks, dirty as hell. my house was broken into and the 59 in my other video was stolen, fortunately this was laying by the front door, plays like a dream now. sorry for the tuning nonsense

  • hey man, what do you like about the Antiquities? dude , I have to be brutally honest. There's a cat that plays an epiphone les paul with antiquities and it puts your LP to shame tone wise. I itchin to get a set of Ants. their half the price of Thro baks and sound just as paffy. rock on.

  • @LesterPaul01 lol there is nothing wrong with epi's you can get great tone out of anything lol. adn this video has shitty audio lol . i play this guitar now and again, luckily it wasnt stolen when my house was robbed, they stole most everything but left this one by the front door. they stole the 59 from my other videos. i prefer sheptone over seymour and pretty much everything else, but i like the antiquites, they are clear, but have a nice punch, with great mid range

  • @LesterPaul01 It's not only about pup's,it's about tubes, tube type, tube grades, speakers, caps and other amp mods as well.Example;ever plugged into a 4x12 loaded with 25 watt Greenback Celestions and then 75 watt GB Celestions?BIG difference.25's are so much sweeter.Old school.Find out what the Epiphone players rig is all about.Bet you that's where his tone secrets are.R&R!

  • @MrJohnnyDistortion You are absolutely right.. There are a lot of variables to the equation. If I dropped 25 watters in my twin or my deluxe reverb, IYO what would be the results? By the way the cat with the epi plays through a deluxe reverb and he's running a alnico blue speaker? I think. It's not the bullshit jensen design. Thanks for the info.

  • @LesterPaul01You'd get smoother natural speaker breakup without driving the head and squashing tone.Depends what style you're playing, rock, blues etc..Allot of guys have different cabs/speakers/heads and mix for what tones/distortion they want.To me,300 watt cabs with 75 watt Celestions sound sterile, choke tone.Old school rockers prefer 25's.Plug your amp into different cabs and see what you hear.I play classic/hard rock,Zep,Sabbath,Skynyrd.25's always sounded best for everything.R&R!

  • @MrJohnnyDistortion Thanks Mr. Johnny D. By the way, we have the same taste in music. What type of guitars pups do you favor? My go to axe is my 08' traditional LP. It has 57 classics. I have tried pearly gates, burstbucker 1 and 2, BB pros. they all sounded kinda thin. I always run back to the 57's. They are so versitile and rich.but there are pups that sound more paffy if you will. I am eyeing out Antiquities now. I guess I'm a gear whore. LOL! Hmm, 25 watters food for thought. rock on.

  • @LesterPaul01 Almost always I'd use 57 & J Beck.Guitars almost strictly Gibson SG's,flat top LP's/P90'S,P100'S,V's,Explorers.I've read that the SD Antiquities are very near sounding the custom wound pups like the Tom Holmes.Ben Wabranes is another 1 I like and Kinman or Kineman P90's,can't remember.Theres a guy on YT that does an excellent review on these.MONSTER tone, mod''d amps.Yes,25's.That's what was around in the 60's/70's.Then the 75's for warranty purposes.Try many speakers & listen.

  • Comment removed

  • first off: the rig sounds great

second off: grab some gauged nut files from stewmac and cut the nut properly. you wont need to lube it after that.

  • @rumblebox thanks man, its been worked over since then, i dont use this rig anymore , but still have the amp in the closet. its fantastic, the nut was terrible in this video, i had a unprofessional luthier look it over. i do all my own setup work and pickup swaps, guitar wiring, and hell, now i make my own pickups on the side lol, ive come a long way since this video

  • I wish they could make 4-conductor versions of these pickups. That's why I like DiMarzio pickups better.

  • And may I add, that's an amazing guitar you've got!

  • @HearingLossProvider thanks bro, shes a great one, got a brazilian board on this one too ;), dont find that too often

  • Love the name! My Trad Pro is Bethany :P

  • @HearingLossProvider lol i havent reffered to this guitar as Maybelle in a long time, my house was recently broken into, and literally everything was taken except this guitar, tells me something, meant to be maybe? had it worked on since and i swapped the antiquities out for yet another set of antiquities, with a hotter neck and a little bit colder bridge. love this thing though, my number one, always has been

  • lol. nut problems

  • @TheGent85 lol i know sorry bro, its been fixed since then. ill make a new demo soon, i cant access this youtube account anymore

  • @kristofferpence i already got me a pair of antiqs. they're great.

  • Pickups sound great.

  • man. Please tune your guitar off camera and edit. your vid to the essentials. Save us a lot of time.

  • @brinekoffe Save you time? You're not too busy to watch youtube.

  • @brinekoffe i apologize dude, the nut on this guitar was insanely trippy, its been cleaned out and totally changed since then. Ill make another , much better demo soon

  • Try putting lead in the nut! The string's won't stick..

  • Nice Duncan's!

  • Wow, that does suck, man. Just try to keep in mind, it's just stuff. You can get even custom guitars replaced by new custom guitars. That thief will get his!

  • @thestooty thanks bro, appreciate it

  • if you're gonna play blues, do yourself a favor and get a fender please! TY

  • @TheFlyers09 dude this is me, i cannot access this account anymore. i have just as many fenders as i do gibsons, even though i was just recently robbed. I love fender, but i love gibson too, both get equal use.

  • That sounds great, man. Sweet find you got. Maybe next video, edit out the tuning. LOL

    I dig your playing, bro!

  • @thestooty thanks man, just recently got robbed and luckily this was actually sitting next to the front door, ran out of room i guess lol. they got my 59 with sheptones in my other video and 6 other guitars including a few gibsons and fenders and a guitar i had custom made just for me. sucks ass, but what can you do. and dude, the nut on this guitar is insanely kinky and always detunes so sorry

  • @thestooty Why do Gibson persist in using crap nuts for their guitars, I have replaced every gibson nut with a bone nut they never stay in tune with the stock nuts because they cant cut them right.

By the way the vid is not a good idea what these pups sound like to much peaking the mic

  • @prsfrank Ain't that the truth! I replaced mine as well. They make something called "Nut Sauce" that works pretty good too, if you haven't already checked into that.

  • That sounds great, man. Sweet find you got. Maybe next video, edit out the tuning. LOL

  • Nice guitar. Nice to hear a good set of Gibson replacements that sound good clean or distorted. I was looking at the Dimarzzio 36 anniversary PAFs as a replacement set for my Gibson but they broke up to much and didn't get a great clean tone. These antiquities are cool. Straplocks,...check good idea. The top looks beautiful. Everything looks good but I would think of replacing the tuners to the Grovers. You can always go back to stock, but the grovers are solid! other than that, Rock on!

  • @SuperSubydude not at all the tuners bro. its the damn nut dude, its insane and full of kinks and needs to be replaced

  • it's not a tuning issue. he's prolly using some large gauge strings that his nut isnt cut for...you can hear the wound strings ping'ing in the nut when he tunes. no biggie. pickups sound good man.

  • @melonheed3 dude i posted this video, had problem with google accounts and cannot really access it lol. yeah the nut on the guitar has so many kinks its ridiculous ,and the guy i had set it up cut the nut slots to damn deep, this guitar has great tone but alot of problems. think i am going to eventually change the pickups to sheptone

  • Wow tune b4 you start doing a demo dude!

  • whats strings do you prefer using on your electrics?

  • @guitar15243 in this video i was just using what i used to, which is Ernie Ball Slinky Top Heavy Bottom (10-52). i use GHS now, because they have great tone, but last a little bit longer. and on strats its mostly GHS 10-52 or D'Addario 10-46 depending on the guitar

  • FU already

  • dude!!! i had to say it..... while trying ot hear ur demonstration u kept having to re tune ur guitar, U KNOW WHY????? BECAUSE GIBSON TUNERS SUCK!!! SO PLEASE! GET SOME GOOD TUNERS ON THERE,,, FOR U! AND FOR THE REST OF US.... lol

  • @publicservant2009 the nut i have on this guitar is absolute garbage dude, so many kinks and binds its ridiculous, wont stay in tune to save a life. its actually alot better now

  • must be the microphone, it sound a bit muffled.

  • I almost fell asleep watching this...maybe that guitar doesn't tune well.

  • @jmibelltone I almost fell asleep reading your comment

  • @jball476 comment?

  • Upgrade the tuners to Grovers. I love them!

  • Cool guitar.

I don't understand how Gibson is willing to sell $3000+ guitars with the same tuning issues as $300 Epiphones. One of these days, we'll have to band together and boycott Gibson until they learn what Q.C. means.

  • @fujikun693 You must not know how to string your post like a mandolin player does and use some nut lubricant.I've used this post stringing method for years. No problems after moderate string stretching even under heavy hot stage lighting. How do you think the pro's stay in tune.Check your pegs in case they are loose.

  • @MrJohnnyDistortion thanks bro, ive worked with it since this video, its insane now.

  • @kristofferpence GREAT!This is how I wind the post after going thru the TP.Graphite grease the nut slots.E/A/D strings, stretch E string past E post bend @ A post .Slide E string through E post till bend stops, wind string backwards and "underneath" that first bend & bend string up.You now have 3 locking bends.Wynd string normally lapping "underneath" each previous wynd down to headstock.Measure 2 posts for G/B/E strings & repeat.Stretch each string smoothly/individually/lightly up and down.R&R.

  • @fujikun693 helpfull tip about buying a gibson..... ditch the tuners and get grovers ;)

  • @fujikun693 Have you ever tried the Gibson mandolin string post tuning/locking method along with some graphite nut slot wax?Check the nut string slot width for string hang ups. This method, after the strings have been slowely/evenly individually stretched out,has never failed me and all my Gibsons stay in tune even with heavy 4 note bends for hours.Gibson really should install Sperzels if the were smart and not so pig headed/cheap,but,they are.Let me know how this method works out.

  • holy crap, this video has had a lot of views haha

  • fuckin beautiful man. :)

  • @ArthursChannel Thanks man. Have to make a new one soon.

    KP

  • If your still having tuning problems with your nut, look into big bends nut sauce, solved all my tuning problems

  • @guitarcrazzzydude92 thanks man, but its starting to come around. but the guitar has been acting up as far as set up. the high E sounds a bit like a sitar. cant explain it

  • @krisgoldmusic The thing that's helped the most is keeping the string-slots clean. All kinds of dirt/debris gets in there and causes your string to hang up. Saved me money knowing this. Also, check string-height and all that. Like they say, the most-logical explanation is usually the simplest one.

  • @krisgoldmusic Ive had the same problem definitely time to have a respectable luthier fit a new nut on that sucker, if that doesnt work look into the bridge, sounds good though.

  • @krisgoldmusic if its at top frets probably nut needs replacement, if its all around on the e it might be that you need to adjust the bridge or the truss rod, try taking it into a local music shop ive found they're more than happy to help with this kind of stuff, also gibson usually puts pretty crappy tuners on their guitars stock dont ask me why, but the things can't keep tune at least from my experience you can get better ones for cheep sometimes it just requires you to retrofit to a 10mm hole

  • @guitarcrazzzydude92 hey buddy, listen do u think those pickups can help to get slash/page/classicpaf sound ????

  • @nochi969286 yeah of course man. but honestly i would feel much more comfortable knowing that i reccomend you to go for the sheptone pickups that are in my other videos. The Antiquities are okay, but really in my honest opinion, they're nothing to rave about, i think you'd be MUCH happier if you go Sheptone dude, you can get just about any sound out of those pickups.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    thanks man,

    KP

  • Its odd. Every pickup company makes a "PAF" pickup....and they all sound different from each other.

  • @REALCougarsRmales Agree with you there. Just got to go with what you like best. and for me, I tend to lean toward the sheptone more. these are nice too, but the sheptones have that little something these dont

  • turn that vol down

  • a gibson not stay in tune?

  • Do those pickups give a similar sound to a 59? because i was thinkin about installing these on my epi lp, great guitar and playin by the way!

  • @metalshredder14 ..... i have a seymour duncan 59 in another guitar, and they are somewhat similar. As a pickup winder myself, the tonal characteristics of these pickups are slightly woodier sounding, which is like a dry chirp, but enough bottom end and midrandge to balance them out. but let me tell you, this guitar just took a crap on me haha, everything is going out. I actually dont like Seymours pickups a whole lot anymore. go to my other vid and get Sheptone, IMO his are the BEST.

    KP

  • @krisgoldmusic Thanks man thats really helpful!!

  • @metalshredder14 Hey, its what I am here for man, let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks

    KP

  • @metalshredder14 I'd answer it's impossible because SH1 59 Seymour Duncan are alnico V and antiquities are are alnico II. Alnico II sound sweeter and more vintage. I suppose these are similar to Seth Lover SH 55.

  • nice guitar

  • Man that guitar is breath taking!!!!!!

  • @nicolasrivera Thank you my friend.

    ;-)

    KP

  • so u really don't like these pickups? any particular reason?i like my duncan distortion mayhem set but i am a rookie, just wanted to see what u thought of these pickups, pros and cons?

  • @luvz2sploogeify yah man they really just arent for me anymore, I have gotten into sheptone, to me seymour duncan used to be better. Frankly, I dislike mass produced pickups, I dont think you can get that same tone and I really have not been happy with any of his pickups. I actually wind my own pickups, I make tele and strat pickups and am currently designing p90s and humbuckers, all my stuff is vintage style, with my own little twist

  • @krisgoldmusic thats cool man, one thing most guitar players can agree on, at least the mature ones, is that tone is subjective. its all about what sounds good to your ears. good luck with ur new pickups and thanks for the response

  • @luvz2sploogeify any time

  • hey man if you take a pencil lead and rub it into the nut slots it should solve your nut problems. it wont hurt the guitar in any way.

  • dude, u suck i want that guitar!

  • @sabbathx4xlife Haha everybody hate's me, Welcome to the club

    ;-)

    KP

  • @krisgoldmusic lol i dont hate you, i just want ur guitar :D

  • @sabbathx4xlife I know lol, I was being sarcastic, kind of my thing haha ;-)

Getting rid of these pickups really soon, i really dont like them at all

  • @krisgoldmusic you dont like those pickups? How much for the neck?

  • @rene495 do you mean how much if I were to sell them?. I will probably never sell them but keep them in the collection, Im working with Jeff Shepherd of Sheptone pickups on finding a new set for this guitar, not sure what yet

  • anybody watching this video, the whole new youtube google thing screwed me up, this is me, using my other youtube account, any new videos will be posted on this account

    thanks

    KP

  • Bought me a 1981 Les Paul Standard in a Natural finish. It still looks like new for almost a 30 year old guitar.

  • That's why I got rid of my Guitar Center 60's reissue, It wouldn't stay in tune!

  • typical gibson never in tune

  • You either need a new nut or new tuners, that thing seems to go out of tune almost instantly.

But the video is really nice. Made me buy them.

  • @MrCptGonzo The tuners are fine, fixed the nut with some lube, stays in tune alot better now. Antiquities are great pickups, really glad that this video made you buy them. They are some of the only pickups I like from Seymour, but the sheptones that are in my 59 are VERY nice, among the nicest I have tried, although they have different magnets, the sheptones are a little bit warmer and a little clearer and more bell like, but the antiquities were made for this guitar and will never go out

    KP

  • one of the nicest Les Paul's I have ever seen. Divine.

  • @chooseyourblues

Thank you sir. I'll do a close up look at it for you

  • Are they really that much better than the Burstbuckers?

  • @jakeizlove yes sir, not only in build quality and attention to detail. these pickups are just so sweet sounding. burstbuckers can sound really high end and shrill In my opinion. these are great sounding pickups and favor a wide variety of different styles of music.

    KP

  • @krisgoldmusic

It's between Antiquities and Sheptones for my G0. Either way the electronics will be redone with parts from RS Guitarworks in a few months.

  • i was waiting all vid for a neck pickup run above the 12th fret ;-(

    Good demo though;-)

  • @Danthehorse haha, I'm sorry, I'll make another video for you when I get the chance.

    KP

  • @krisgoldmusic haha cheers mate! they are on my list when i have finished my LP build ;-)

  • get a bone nut and toss the gibson factory nut

  • thanks alot , you know I actually just put some nut lube in there about 3 days ago, its new from planet waves, its called lubrikit. MAN, it feels so good to not have that kinking noise and have the guitar go out of tune every time i bend haha. If you remember my demos along time ago, I used to Love the guitar in this video. but, its slipping away from me, to tell the truth, i like the sheptones a bit better, to me the sheptones are more accurate PAFs on the market. This guitar is my baby haha

    KP

  • Kris, I'm loving these demos. Both sets of pickups sound great. (Guitars don't look too bad either). Btw, when I first got my R8, any time I turned the tuning pegs, the strings made that annoying "ping" sound that I heard once or twice in this video. I've been using Big Bends Nut Sauce, which lubricates the nut so the string can slide without "catching" and pinging. Give it a try. It saved my sanity!
