  • The first minute and 12 seconds sounds like a horror movie! I kinda started to look around the room lol

    RIP Cliff!

    \m/ 2/10/62-9/27/86 \m/

  • Anytime you hear thunder it's just Cliff Burton playing his Bass in Heaven

    RIP 2/10/62-9/27/86

  • @jeremylovesmusic1 Or Chuck Norris farting

  • @jeremylovesmusic1 it's just the most fuckin beautful com i read about Cliff!! :')

  • @spiXell

Thanks man. The 3 main reasons I picked up bass. Cliff Burton, John Entwhisle (The Who) and Geddy Lee (Rush)

  • @jeremylovesmusic1

Well, the mother fucker better play a bit more often b/c I don't wish to die having to listen to someone else playing some lady gaga bullshit louder than it should be.

  • @jeremylovesmusic1 Thunder? No that has to do with Thor...

TIL Cliff is a viking. Valhalla holds the best bassist...

  • Ok, I respect Cliff as a great, great metal musician but I just don't understand why the bass guitar is so important, it sounds minimal in this song. Can someone please explain?

  • @Streetwalkeriain

I agree with you. In most songs like this the bass is minimal.

  • @krone900 so does this prove that the problem with Justice wasn't the lack of bass, it's just it suffered from poor production? I always thought the bass (or lack of it) was the main problem fans had with it.

  • @Streetwalkeriain

Metallica has their bass tracks very low on every album. If you listen to bands like Death, Megadeth, Dream Theater or just Black Sabbath you'll always hear the bass. Its a shame because Metallica has had such talented bass players and in my opinion music sounds a bit like plastic if the bass is not loud enough. It also adds a real original sound in my opinion, a bass is not just a low guitar, it really sounds awesome if you hear it over the distorted riffs. RIP Cliff

  • @Brutalyeah you just said, that by copying other bands, they would be original. FAIL

  • @vAGENTv0RANGEv

I said it would add an original sound, I didnt say it would make the band original. Eventho you are wrong I still agree that I should have used another word, maybe ''special sound''. Anyway, shut the fuck up, there's no point in commenting on me like this unless you disagree with me about the volume of the basstracks on Metallica's albums. I doubt that.

  • @Streetwalkeriain

I think there was no problem with Justice if you compare it to their first 3 albums. It was a pretty damn straight album, creatively influenced by Cliffs death, I love it. I also like the ''enhanced bass'' version of the songs on youtube, some justice for Jason is important, he was a great Metallica member and should never have been replaced by that gorilla, its a fucking awesome gorilla but still, he just doesnt fit in Metallica... Lars and James just fucked up Jason... :(

  • @Streetwalkeriain Well in some songs you just need some to keep a sick beat in the background

  • @Streetwalkeriain Bass is the foundation of most music.

  • @Streetwalkeriain Bass = harmonizing in ANY metal/rock (unless it's lame pop-rock)/jazz/blues song

  • it takes a very soft dist. right? very very soft...

  • and we can easily hear Cliff's original additions at 1:58

    awesome...

  • awesome... he's not an ordinary bassist!

    RIP

  • This is why i love bassist like Cliff Burton and Steve Harris. Their music is hard but not constantly slap bass! Nothing wrong with slap but there is more to being a great bassist then that

  • @tokorev747777 exactly

  • RIP Cliffy B

  • this track sounds like the unforgiven a bit...

    but still

    R.I.P cliff

  • @fangopango very unforgiven for me!

  • @fangopango that's 'cause the verses of this song and the chorus of Unforgiven are the same chords

  • the BEST BASSIST IN THE WORLD....!!!:)

  • the only reason You guys like him better cos he's dead. If he was still alive, Nobody Cares.

    RIP Cliff

  • @arashish

Suck my cock you fucking moron. He wrote some of the best songs ever.

  • @YoLpIsBest I know Mofo. Like Paul Gray (Slipknot), Nobody Cared when He was still alive. Now when he's dead, he's regarded as best basist ever. YOu can Fuck Off If u dont understand what M Saying.

  • @arashish

Paul Gray isn't best bassist in the world. Nobody have say it. Listen Pulling Teeth (Ansesthesia) and you understand why Cliff is best bassist in the metal. Grow up kid and get your facts straight.

  • @YoLpIsBest Grow some Hair On your Balls and Talk kid.

  • @arashish

Ahhah!! Go somewhere else to spam you fucking hypocrite!

  • @YoLpIsBest If I fuckin TeaBag YOu, I'm gonna Fuck up your nose or something. SO u better STFU and respect Music. Fuckin Retards.

  • @arashish

You're a angry little boy. Get a clue you fucking ingnorant cunt.

  • @YoLpIsBest loooool paul gray (RIP) you couldnt even hear his bass

  • 6 douchebags dont know how to appreciate good music!

  • Cliff brought something to music that is hard to find, at least in metal music, a personalized bass line, something that isnt of the ordinary, i know many people who can stand him because he didnt play traditional bass, he changed things up because he could. I cant say cliff is for sure the best bassist, but as far as metal music goes with the originality of his music he certainly should be considered.

  • What does it matter if Cliff was the best bassist or not? There are several bassists out there who play more advanced bass licks but that does not make them better since you really can't measure skill or good music - good music isn't defined, it's a matter of opinion. I, for one, think Metallica is awesome and for me Cliff was the best bassist FOR Metallica. Isn't that what's really important?

  • Sup god. Wanna make a deal? To have cliff back, I'll give you Miley Cyrus, All Three of the Jonas Brothers, Lady GaGa, Justin bieber, and you know what? I'll throw in all the members of the Black Eyed Peas. How's the deal sound?

  • Theres definately 6 people who liked jusin bieber that click on dislike.

  • rockin' a Misfits shirt, o yea

  • @mOsherfr3ak69 He was originally a Pianist...thats why he know his shit...i think he was the only one that could read music in the band

  • @mOsherfr3ak69 yeah I know someone said, do you know where one might listen to him playing Jazz?

  • Cliff burton! How we wished you were here

  • @krollaostmedburger

    Yeah,me too...

    Flavy

  • Technically speaking, Ron McGoveny was not the first bassist either. Im like obsessed with Metallica, and I know that the (technical) first bassist was James Hetfield, when he played Hit the Lights. He was the bassist for that song. That was their first song.

  • To band that Cliff wasn't the first bassist in Metallica. Before you say things like that, know your facts first.

  • I never noticed how the bass sounds in this song!

  • If you're one of the 6 who disliked this video, i'd like to see you do better

  • Nice Man!!

  • 4:12 sounds great

  • i've got same Misfits t-shirt... hell yeah!!!

  • cliff burton .. your the original metallica bassist RIP buddy

  • @chisurr Ron McGovney was the original Metallica bassist

  • when was this song released? not in the black album?

    cliff was already dead

  • @Libanass 1984 on the ride the lightning album

  • @Libanass it´s from the album ride the lightning made in 1984, cliff die on september of 1986, so then he made this awome bass track still alive =D

  • @jasituo677898 sorry, I completely forgot that this song was on the ride the lightning album! my bad

  • @Libanass no prob dude jeje

  • I can play this whole song on bass :D

  • Damn...where did you get this?

  • Even in quiet songs he seems so angry, RIP Cliff

  • Uuh, now that I heard this. It sounds like Cliff could've made The Unforgiven.

  • did not metallica played this song backwords and then it sounded like the unforgiven? the melody

  • best fucking bassist ever

  • dude he was morew than a bassist he was a god

  • from 4:10 it sounds something like from Mario paint composer

  • R.I.P. best bassist ever :'(

  • @YEAHmix Nowhere near the best..... but RIP

  • @Brazilianjj Lol who's better? Please, tell me. And keep in mind, he died young. Anyone else you could possibly consider better would have to have had many years of experience, which Cliffy was cheated out of by that fuckface bus driver.

  • @MastaDRD Whos better?.. HAHAHA... uhh les claypool, Victor Wooten, Flea. TONS of people better then Cliff. Dying young has no impact and the skill that he had during this recording.. therefore proving what his current skills were during that point in time.. and saying that if he didnt die he would be the best is like me dying right now and saying if i didnt die i woulda been presidant. Cliff burton is not a very good bassist.

  • @Brazilianjj I will say Flea is damn good

  • @Brazilianjj Not a very good bassist. Uhuh. And you're using this track as your judgement call? Go listen to Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) and then try to tell me he isn't a good bassist. I've heard those bassists, and I have yet to hear anything in line with Cliff's signature bass solo from any of them.

  • @MastaDRD Umm okay.. after listening to Anesthesia pulling teeth i have made my decision to stand by what i say and take it even further.. If thats his best solo and if you think its amazing then you have NOT heard a good bass player before. i fyou think Cliff Is as good or better then, Les claypool, Flea, Victor wooten,Ryan Martinie, and countless other bassists then you are a dumbass... Show me a REAL bass solo from Cliff thats good and we can talk more.

  • @Brazilianjj dude they all the same.

  • @Brazilianjj Eat a dic i bet u cant even play 1 cliff bass line so shut the fuck cause cliff is better than ull ever be at anything fuck hes better at fucking living and the dudes dead. Ill admit Flea is better man Flea is the best but Cliff is right up there with evryone u have named

  • @CTshadows LOl your insult to me is that cliff is better then me?... okay yeah he is.. i dont play bass.. dumbshit. lol.

And he is NOT anywhere near up there witht hose people i mentioned... I have still yet to hear a good Bass line that even comes close to the people i have mentioned.

If one exists then please show me.. if not then shut your mouth.

  • @Brazilianjj

mehh, i think cliff is a little better than Les claypool as bass, but its just opinions. Music in general is all opinions.

  • @slayerguy21 Do you have musical proof? Cliff has no solos that even compare to les claypool. If there is then please show me..

  • @Brazilianjj

its my opinion. I just like him better

  • @Brazilianjj Well first, listen "For whom the bell tolls", The chromatic, which is often mistaken for an electric guitar, is in fact Cliff Burton playing his bass guitar through distortion and wah-wah. The intro was written by Burton before joining Metallica.

And of course, you can also listen to Orion, an anthem of Heavy metal.

I have nothing againts Les, but in my opinion Cliff is best bassist in history of Metal.

  • @Brazilianjj

No solos? How about listen Pulling Teeth (Anesthesia). Les Claypool is good but after listen to that song, you have to admit that Cliff was better.

  • @YoLpIsBest Pulling teeth is the only solo that people refer too.. and its not even a impressive solo.. its very bland... High distortion with a bunch of single note picking... no slapping, or plucking... very boring compared to les claypool or Victor wooten or Flea etc..

  • @Brazilianjj have you heard any of his other bass tracks my god they are all great including pulling teeth but flea and claypool are different styles than cliff they are good but cliff is still the best to me and many more and what metal bassist slaps

  • @Brazilianjj pulling teeth if u read the tab and watch some videos of how it is played there is a fair bit of ntab bas when then drum's come in. id just like to point out it's not just the one technique all the way through.

  • @Brazilianjj Victor Wooten defined boredom. Cliff would take the skin off your face.

  • @TarbleSauce Victor Wooten is a great bassist.Just because he has a calm style doesn't mean he's bad

  • @hugopereira14 Who would you rather see live? If you say Victor than I really don't see why you're here.

  • @TarbleSauce Cliff is my fucking idol ok?I am just saying that Victor is good too and just because he plays jazz that doesn't make him a boring bassist, and of course I would prefer to see Cliff live

  • @hugopereira14 Right on man. Could you link me where you found your profile picture from?

  • @TarbleSauce Just put "Corinne Cliff" in google images and it will appear

  • @hugopereira14 in other words victor best jazz bassist best metal bassist cliff and robert :)

  • @lordifandk Steve Harris and Dave Ellefson are good bassists too :)

  • @johnthegreek178 hell ya they are :)

  • @Brazilianjj HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH Flea? Really???? Funny story Les Claypool was almost in Metallica at one point....

  • wait a minute that sounds sum sort of that day that never should come or not? anyway sweet dud

  • sorry just did read the side text thats nice knowledge thx

  • It does...

  • kinda sounds like free bird in a small way obviously fade to black

  • So what if everyone comments negatively, Cliff was one of the greatest bassplayers of all time, and not to forget that mad shredding wouldn't fit this song

And he was only 24 years old. Damn

    RIP Cliff :(

  • 28 secons of silence then dun doo

  • i agree, its kinda shitty, but isnt everything shitty alone?, guitar alone repeating same riff sounds boring, voice with no guitar is shitty or with no beat, but this is still great :D

  • @TheBattery124 the guitar is not repeating itself all the time.

    The bass is.

The guitar has something called solos ;)

  • yea so does the bass, try listening to Orion or (Anesthesia) Pulling teeth :P

  • R.I.P Cliff Burton. The best bass player who ever lived.

  • hey man you got to upload the bass track from the call of ktulu!!!!!!!

  • The Call of Ktulu (Ride The Lighting with Cliff Burton) bass track would be sweet!!!!

  • This is definitely Cliff's track... you can clearly hear the fingerstyle he used and you can even hear the finger bumps with his plucking hands in the choruses.

There's also the trademarked Cliff Burton "don't play it the same way twice" going on everywhere in here.

His attack can be confused for a pick sound to the untrained ear, but you can't deny that the overtones he's getting can only be coming from his right hand technique.

  • That's not the bass track. You can tell there's a pick being used just by the tone. Cliff played with his fingers.

And as far as Lemmy's sound, he just used a shit ton of mids and plays with a lot of drones and yes, powerchords.

  • theres defenitely no pick being used in this vid

  • That tone is too bright and defined to be finger style.

  • well it is fingerstyle actually

low action bass with fingers... the bright tone comes from hitting the string on the fret with every pluck...

  • @guitargodfromhell cliff played with hella distrotion.

  • did he use there distortion too??

or is it just some kind of a "natural/normal" overdrive?

  • @soadfe I think he just did what lemmy did and turned it up real loud, tho I've always like the dano fab tone distortion.. I dont know for sure but i think he did.

  • he used big muff distrotion.

  • RIP CLIFF BURTON

  • this is entirely wrong...

  • Amazing :D Love this song

  • I think Cliff was one of the Greatest bassists in the world and no one can replass that so respect Him.

  • Listen to Black Sabbath... Geezer Butler used distortion and wah back in 1970...

Cliff definitely stepped up metal bass playing... he's among my favorite bassists.

  • Cliff was one of the first to use distorion and wah on bass

  • Cliff knew how to play exactly what the songs needed.

  • @loveskateing12 im a bassist but this is just a slow song
