Question for you. I have been painting in acrylic for a good few years and paint mainly land and seascapes. I really want to paint abstract and loosen up. The trouble is I look at other peoples abstract paintings and really love them but when I paint abstract I, only see a mess or something people would laugh at. Do you think its because I have been painting in a tight way for so long that I cant loosen up?
thanks for asking, if you ever done brainstorming by placing ideas on paper or canvas without thinking too long try to do the same by creating many small size paintings and just begin applying paint or sketches this will help you in a long run
it is hard for me to tell you what you need to do, the only thing is to just try to try to keep the natural flow and do not think about the little details too much and eventually it will all come together for you
thank you for your questions :) and your feedback! Usually I have a blurry picture of what I want to paint and just go with it without doing any preparations for it. However it is always not a bad idea to do some type of sketch. for this and some other videos I decided to do a sketch for video purpose only
hey pete, just quick question, what tool did you use when tapping on canvas and spreading the colour?

Is that a string gel medium mixed with acrylic paint you are squeezing onto the canvas?

thanks Pete, it's always great to see your process, and it looks like you are having fun too.
quick question, do you do thumbnail sketches for your larger works?
do you start with a concept for design and then move toward it or do you let the piece sort of evolve? (speaking of your larger works here)
I tend to do sketches on my canvas especially the smaller sizes 16 x 20 and smaller.
thanks again,
