  • That party(in the last commercial)looked like fun. Is it true that the 5 is still their logo?

  • Yes, after all these years! It's all 3D now, of course.

  • @jhshifris1 Yes, that is still thier logo but it is modified. WCVB is the only New England station to keep its logo, callsign, and affiliation

  • Great stuff indeed... but then Tom Ellis blabbed about Natalie's pregnancy over the air and sadly all those happy times at 'CVB came to a screeching halt.

  • "As we move into the 80s". Heh.

  • I've stood next to that 5! They keep it in the back behind the set, and it's painted red now.

  • I love the little portable TV at 1:41. Can I get that at Lechmere I wonder? I think it's only 1080i though. lol.

  • @jsngallery

Lol. Lechmere. I knew that store was going to go down the crapper, It was the start of my bing-bong theory. Any place that has a bing-bong sound in their electronics dept is going to go bankrupt. Caldors, Lechmere, (almost K-mart) Service Merchandise, Radio Shack nearly did, Bradlees, all had that light bar that made that sound that you heard each time you passed into the electronics section. Annoying as hell and all those places are gone.

  • 1:22 "If we want you to tune into us, we've got to tune into you." Best local TV promo line of all time.

  • "Channel 5 & You" was written by Harley Flaum and Tom Sellers, who did jingles for American Airlines and many other national campaigns.

  • Miller's Court and Capt'n Bob were cool! I remember watching Miller's Court when I was about 8-10, and I wanted to be a lawyer. Chronicle is still on, and still very good. ABC, though, seems to micromanage what its stations do, and that's unfortunate. 5 now fills its airtime with either ABC junk (except Life on Mars,) or infomercials.:( What happened to good TV? It disappeared like good music.

  • what ever happend to this channell

  • What a truly awesome station on the cutting edge back in the Glory Days! I had the honor of being part of the behind the scenes team back then. For all WCVB Alumns, join our group on LinkedIn.

  • do stations have any local programming at all these days? today's kids wouldn't know what to do if any did air.

  • The Announcer is Ernie Anderson

  • Nice shot of the station's tech stuff like the Ampex AVR-1, one of the best 'Quad' videotape machines ever built.

  • If promos were this good today, I might consider watching television again.

  • They look MUCH better than on 80stvthemes!!! WOW!!!!

  • Steve Sweeney's Park St. Under... sadly, no more local programming aside from Chronicle.

  • Don't forget CityLine, that is still running on Sundays. Otherwise, all they have is Chronicle now.
