I'm sort of confused..... Wouldn't there be wake turbulence that close behind a jet? I'm not saying this isn't real. Was the following plane below the wake vortices? Or was the plane in front just not at a high enough speed to develop the wake vortex? Or were you actually being bounced around quite a bit?

Although the graveyard spiril in topgun wouldn't have happened because having been seen by a senior drinking 24 hours prior to flying that crash they wouldn't have been flying. Not to mention the canopy is suppose to explode not bounce up. BTW Art Scholl actually died during the shooting of the Goose death scene.

@bbender1986 The engine intakes of F-14 have hydraulic powered plates that compress the air going in so that it is always flowing into the turbofans concerned at subsonic speeds even when the Tomcat is flying at supersonic speeds. This plate system failed in the movie Topgun so the air hit the engines at excessive speed and sent the F-14 and Goose into a death spiral. Although because this is an F-15 the chanches of jet wash causing a spin is much less likely but at that distance, possible.

@ThatGuy571 It isnt simulator because you can see the shadows on the dashboard in relation to sun.About "display board" , if your not aware then they use cockpits in simulators, which have all the buttons doing funny things you dont understand. You cant tell the Gforce by just looking at the back of hes helmet. And about the g-force; Jets DONT produce a lot of G by accelerating in the air. High g-force comes from aggressive turns while being above or on corner airspeed, not by acceleration

I know it isn't a simulator, that's what i was trying to portray; apparently that went over your head. And jet engines do produce G-force when accelerating. Nothing above 1G usually, but enough to put your head back into the seat, as you can see the guy has to slow down to stay behind the first jet, then the lead jet increases his speed, thus this pilot must do the same. And don't assume you know more about the "display board" than me, for all you know I'm an avionics technician (hint hint)

@7domonic7 Depends on the jet you're talking about. It's been estimated that F15's can do up to if not over mach 4 (3044mph) with full afterburner at altitude (over 20 to 30 thousand feet). Most military jets can easily reach 1000mph with afterburner.

@ThatGuy571 It's well documented that the SR-71 Blackbird, was, and still is the fastest aircraft ever flown (unless your talking about what they fly out of area-51, and Tonopah Test Range) to date, with speed's of MACH 3+. That was at an altitude at or above 80,000 feet, where theres just enough air to still call it an atmosphere. I'm sorry, but the F-15 just isn't going MACH 4, at 20-30,000 feet, today, tomorrow, or ever for that matter... Get real, or at least get real information..........

@mrfun07 And the SR-71 was designed and built in the 1960's and 70's and was retired in the 90's. The only reason they documented what it was capable of is because it was never meant as an air interdiction fighter... the military isn't going to tell you exactly what its main air superiority fighter aircraft is capable of, just to keep the enemies guessing. Now saying the F15 can do MACH 4 might have been a bit too generous, but the capability of MACH 2+ is easily achievable with full afterburner
