  • DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THIS TUNE

    youtube.com/watch?v=i5M5mUQqUoo&feature=email

  • Combine this with rainy mood = total relaxing.

  • Just... Thank you.

  • sooo nice to listen that :))

  • pure!

  • Just saw Stan at the 2010 Rochester International Jazz Festival, he's still swingin' like mad, :)

  • This is awesome stuff! Thanks for the post!

  • I used to watch Jackie Dougan giving drum seminars at Potter's Music Shop in Kingston in the sixties. Fine player and Rick Laird is just superb, as is Stan Tracey and of course Ben Webster. It's got to be the old Marquee.

  • QuiescentlyDangerous and

jmsbk12345 ~ I was really struck by the bass player ~ and then I read your comments. Rick Laird became bass player for the Mahavishnu Orchestra, eh? Charismatic musician, really.

  • just so so wonderful

  • So please Mr. Hines do whatever you can to keep this wondeful spot alive. Without it, nothing would be the same.

  • Great jazz and of course you are witnessing the yet to be bassist of the incredible Mahavishnu Orchestra.

  • I was really struck by the bass player ~ and then I read your comments. Rick Laird became bass player for the Mahavishnu Orchestra, eh? Charismatic musician, really.

  • The bass player is swinging hard.

And so does the rest of the band.

  • Music like this pours out of you when you play it, its not just playing a song its feeling the moment. You can really tell the bass player was in the groove swaying back and forth with his face glued an inch from the neck. 4:24

  • I was really struck by the bass player ~ and then I read your comments. I could tell he was in the groove halfway across the room, pushing a broom. Ran over to the computer screen to see who was playing so charismatically!

  • The piano player seems between Monk and Garner and old link mouthpiece is the best for swing tenor sax !

  • i saw him live today, you are spot on about the monk. He played loads of monk classics with a sound so similar to monk

  • amazing

  • Man I would give my left leg to play with these guys..... well maybe not my left leg, I'm a drummer.... but you get the point.

  • i love the piano player,he seems drunk!!

  • outstanding. love the piano intro

  • The whole band's off-the -planet-janet great..someone's jealous....or so it seems...

  • Thanks for this post! It's always great to see the legends. Feel free to come by my blog with swingin' jazz galore (link in profile).

    Best,

    Bruno "Brew" Leicht

  • haha Rick Laird later of mahavishnu orchestra?

  • Headbands please ladies & jellybeans...

  • Is this from Ronnie Scott's club in London?

  • My God, TenorFreak! Thanks a million for all the great videos you've posted here. Bless your soul!

  • Webster always great.

Piano player knows what he's supposed to do but lacks conviction in intro. Sounds like a very watered down Monk imitation.

  • Classic Ben Webster. So great to have a video of this great icon of the tenor sax!

  • All you fuckin assholes with the negative bullshit just shut the fuck up! Thanks for the video tenorfreak

  • jazz&fratback: you're obviously leadership class material...tell me..can u buy that opinionated shit..or does it just come naturally ?

  • Cooks with a smoldering intensity. Very nice!

  • The pianist plays some things like Duke, with a little of his own stuff thrown in. If he copped a bunch of herbie hancock or elton john or Dr. john licks(whoever's your favorite) you'd probably blog how great he was.

  • You idiots the piano is spot on, and race has no value on someone's rhythm, that's just silly.

  • The essential corollary of your statement being, "Blacks have a natural sense of rhythm".

    Ahem!

  • GoTires -

Didn't Miles hire and record with Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, among numerous other white musicians when he had the choice of anyone he wanted to hire? Are you a fool? What an idiotic thing to say.

Brad Mehldau, Michele Petruciani, Lennie Tristano, George Shering, Bob James, Joe Zawinul... those are only a few.

I'd like to hear you play some time. I'm guessing I'd be a bit disappointed.

  • (a) He is Stan Tracey; do your homework. (b) It's a piss-poor solo but nothing to do with 'staying on the beat' - when did that have anything to do with a good solo? ya fuckwit

  • go die

  • the president
