  • Where do you get the semi-bituminous Broad Top coal at? I'd like to get some of that for my furnance.

  • @bigcasino215 id like to try some of it in my dads live steam locomotive

  • I like the long shot through the woods at 5:52, you can see how crooked the tracks are.

  • Took all day to drill that metal??..Nice video..and to think you can own the whole line for a cool 60 mil!!!(counting my pennies). And only 4 miles from my house....The drill operator has been to our club and has worked on our small lines(has to be a break from the 1:1 scale...LOL) Keep the rails alive!!..Thanks Friends of the East Broad Top!!

  • i like her bark coming up the hill at 4:21, thats what it's all about. stack talk

  • fine film! excellent composition and framing. loved the long shot of the train going down the track in the trees at 5:54..

  • Great vid, Ray!

  • Thanks for pointing out the coal. I'm sure that will add many years of life for 15.

  • Fantastic video, thanks for sharing.

  • new open air cars, cool. and like what thomas east said. i loved the footage from inside the shop as well.

  • The EBT has had these cars for awhile now I believe.

  • Yea, those flat cars were converted back in the mid-90s. But there is a new one coming...FEBT is trying to finish conversion of Boxcar 168 into another covered open-air car like Box 175 in time for the Fall Spectacular.

  • But thanks! And the cut from inside the boiler shop is all thanks to the FEBT "glass rattlers" crew ;-) We just painted that wall and installed those windows last year.

  • any updates on the other engines? when are they going to get out on their legs again?

  • No official plans that I am aware of at present. #14 was at least operable when it was put away in '05, but it was operating under a waiver (which expired when #15 was brought into FRA compliance). The inspection and related required maintenance alone under the FRA rules is a huge investment, let alone additional repairs the loco probably needs. 12 and 17 went inop in 2000 and '01, respectively, and 16 and 18 haven't operated since 1956.

  • WOW! You guys sound like youve got your work cut out. So #15 is the only current operable engine?

  • Yea just 15. Since the non-profit EBT Preservation Association began operating the railroad in '09, there's hope that grants can be secured for extending the trip the remaining 4 miles or so to Mt. Union, and possibly for getting another steam loco running. They just won a $1M state grant to fix up the Mt. Union track and spur to NS to serve an industrial park just south of Mt. Union.

  • they are non profit but they charge for rides right???

  • Of course, any non-profit still needs revenue...it just promises that any profits will be reinvested in itself (though I doubt the current revenue does much more than just cover regular maintenance and pay the few employees who run the trains...if it can get on a roll and attract more riders, or have some freight revenue on the side in Mt. Union, then perhaps someday...).

  • ok haha just checking sure as to my surpruse ive come across a couple full size RR that are free to ride upon!

  • Very well done. Great video angles also!

  • Great shots! Love the one from inside of the shop!
