I'm now a Democrat, but I have a lot of respect for Meghan McCain. She and a few others are what can save the Republicans from self destruction. Her daddy would have been better off picking her as VP instead of Palin. We need at the very least a two party system. We need checks and balances so things don't go to far one way or the other.

The issue at hand is the same as always--Liberty and Freedom are the issues. The Freedom loving people of USA are NOT the ones out committing crimes and shooting or knifing others etc. It is the criminals - Felons are not allowed weapons yet the ones that return to a life of crime after being let out of prison many times get weapons easily. That has been taken care of in our laws -- now if we can keep the Judges etc in line and get them to always rule with the laws and not their opinions

The problem with Meghan McCain isn't her politics. It's that she's not clear on any of the issues, not even social issues. She thinks her youth guides her politics and she knows something everyone else doesn't. Something tells me she hasn't read a quote from Winston Churchill on the subject. He went from being a liberal to a conservative later in life because he was a thinking person. Meghan just thinks she's special and wants to be admired for opinions she doesn't really have.

Since Australia banned not only assault weapons but also 22 rifles & shotguns, crime has increased dramatically - homicides are 3.2 percent; assaults up 8.6 percent; armed robberies up almost 45 percent. In Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent. Home burglaries and assaults on the elderly are also up. Enjoy your utopia.

The others chiming in are especially correct as ex-convicts are explicitly restricted from owning, carrying, and certainly using a firearm. However, a great majority of gun related violence in our country has historically been committed by repeat offenders already without the right to carry (or be sold) said firearm.
