  • yeah needed a close up or two

  • Innovative use of split screen, video and live performance. I like this version of the song, too. Too bad "The Top" was so short lived. Also, I think I saw a young Lili Haydn in the video screen on the right. Thanks for posting.

  • Wow. This was an excellent cover. Love the Hollies' sound. I think I may actually prefer this to the original.

  • A great remake. what other male bane could handle the vocals besides the Hollies with Nash?

  • @Raxman263 Hear, hear! That Nash-y sound is platinum!!!! It's a secret weapon!!!!

  • its pretty funky and tony hicks kicks butt on the guitar solo but no matter how hard you try you just cant possibly beat the original by a longshot. sorry hollies.

  • @christianphi Sometimes I don't think it's an artist's intention to "beat" the original. They are just very fond of the song and feel like putting their own spin on it. That's the impression I get with a lot of remakes, including this one.

  • @tygersflowerz I was surprised to discover that The Hollies' version is actually based on Barbara Dickson's 1982 version. They've done this a few times, even with their own songs, doing up-to-date arrangements based on other people's covers of their own songs. Of course, The Hollies 'stamp' is unmistakable, each time giving the song an inimitable certain something ;-)

  • Whoa, Nashie! *S* These reunion videos are the cat's meow. Thanks so much

  • Sweet Stuff!!! Thanks "E"

  • Such a great video!! thank you so much

    Barbara

  • Allan, Tony and Graham...that's the essential Hollies for me....I think about what might have been if Graham had stayed.

I love Allan in a suit and tie....be still my heart!!

  • ICAM. :)

  • The Hollies are amazing and Allan Clarke gives the band its magic beautiful voice.

I loved the video thank you for posting

  • Treasure! Thanks for sharing, veraluciasc. I'm guessing Terry and Bernie had already left by the time this aired?

  • It is that period of "reunion" with Graham Nash.

If you notice other videos appear only Allan, Tony,Graham and Bobby, why? no idea.

  • Gracias Vera, por compartir este lindo video conmigo.

  • Interesting footage, but why didn't the camera man zoom in on the guys?

  • I'VE NOT SEE THIS BEFORE tks. for posting..but the camera, should have been on the HOLLIES...they take a song, and always, always, makes it their OWN..such great ...HARMONY!!!!...

  • What a strange arrangement--it sounds more like REO Speedwagon or a Styx song. It's almost impossible to try to cover these Supremes songs--they're so specific to the group.

  • Well I don't know. "You Keep Me Hangin' On" by Kim Wilde was pretty effective. I like it just as much, but in a different way.

I love remakes when the artist really puts their own spin on it; when they take it into a different kind of mood. Like the way Joe Cocker changed the Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends" or how Marvin Gaye changed Gladys Knight's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine."

I think the Hollies did a good job w/ this. Not as good as the Supremes IMO, but good.

  • heya you both

I agree to branner its mostly hard to cover a supremes or motown song mostly the songwriters wrote them specially just for one group or artist it's like when the supremes covered vandellas songs it didnt work because it was for the vandellas I'm a supremes fan but the vandellas also weren't bad

I don't like kim westons version of you keep me hangin on and this version of the hollies is a complete different its more like pop/soft rock or mary a bit folk music not comparable but good

  • I agree, it's hard, but not impossible. I think you have to like the '80s sound to appreciate Kim Wilde's version of "YKMHO." To this day, some people speak of the synthesizer as if it is not a real instrument and/or takes no real skill. I disagree. The Eurythmics are a great example of that sound done skillfully and soulfully. (I love the early '80s when heavy synth was thrown onto everything just because it was a new sound. XD They overdid it, but it was fun.)

  • well ok xD

I mostly don't like all those technical instruments which sounds mostly unreal but I like a bit 80's stuff like bonny tyler or surely michael jackson really not as much as the 60's but the 80's werent that bad not as bad as the early 90's =D

  • Yeah... '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, early '90s alternative.. I love all that stuff. I can tell by your profile you're heavily into that '60s Motown. I love Amy Winehouse too. She and Christina Aguilera are my favorite females from today. (Christina a little more. Genius of singing.) If I had to pick a favorite time period, I'm not sure I could. I might have to say 1965-1985.... in that area. lol Even THAT'S a broad spectrum. I just love that "New Wave" stuff.

  • p.s. If I had to give 5 songs that sum up what I love about the '80s synth sound, they'd probably be:

    "Lies" - Thompson Twins

    "Antarctica" - Men Without Hats

    "The Metro" - Berlin

    "Sweet Dreams" - Eurythmics

    "Secret Oktober" - Duran Duran

  • I know I would go back to 65-68 and would do anything to let florence ballard of the supemes have a succesfull solo career ... =/ which she never had
