Was here from 99-00, camp Hovey and that was the hardest Ive worked in all my military life nothing compares to this place, the work pace and the weather. This place to me was a love/hate feeling, loved that ive been there hate to go back lol.
I'll never forget raising that flag in 1995 when it was -30. What a memory. C 503 Inf was on honey when I was there and we ran that route every morning to the flag for pt.
well im about to be stationed here in 2 months... I looked on Youtube to find out what i was about to get into over there and the guy says "Well I wouldnt want to be young and 22 here..." Im about to turn 22 right before i go.. FML!
Good grief at the memories! Thanks for posting! I was there in 5/5 ADA from November 1991 to November 1992. I used to run on my own every other day from my barracks through Camp Casey, on around through Hovey, out the back gate, up that big ass hill, around to the main gate and back to the barracks. I think it was a 5 or 6 mile run. I miss a lot of things about my tour there, but I don't miss those monthly alerts! :o)
I was in A Company 1st Battalian 38th Infantry at Camp Hovey in 1975 and 1976. I definitely remember that flag pole. We had to run from Camp Hovey to Camp Casey and back nearly every day. The flag pole is where we turned around to go back. Some days though we ran past the flag pole and out the front gate through Tongduchon and around through Tokori before we finally returned to Camp Hovey. I remember the honey wagons well.
The roads at Casey are much better than the ones outside the post. I used to be at Garry Owen(which no longer exists) but had many trips to Casey on the weekends that we werent on alert status. At times I drove the LT to Casey and The drive to Casey consisted of a bunch of narrow roads(especially in a hummer) and things that barely resemble a sidewalk..sometimes even a ditch that would cause a rollover if you arent precise.
Glad you enjoyed it! I mentioned in the description I planned to go back up and get video of the hills covered in snow...little did I realize there was no way to drive up there when it was snowing (or after). My video from the 5th of Jan shows what I mean.
Hey Jim , I was there also 65-66 .I would beleive it. cold showers in the winter , uninsulated quanset huts. no cars...walked everywhere. no civilian cloths. short time was 2 dollars. Man ...has that place changed
Ha-ha...sounds like you were there all right. I recently saw a video posted by a 2ID soldier's wife (she's with him there!). She recorded her trip walking from their home in TDC to the Casey gate. TDC looked like an American suburb! Yeah, changes, MAJOR changes,
You did this video on my last day at Camp Casey. Did a one year unaccomapied tour and lived in Bldg 691. One of the docs at the TMC on the hill. Glad I'm gone, but good memories
Rained when you left, talk about poetic. Yeah, I am glad we have the chance to experience Korea, though it will be good to PCS out when my tour is up in 2012. Hopefully back to Europe.
It does. I hated Korea after awhile. I think because I got pregnant. My husband is still there. I came back and man...looking at these videos I miss it again. Truely a great experience
@downranger69 I was in Cco 5/20 May 91 to May 92. You must of been returning from Team Spirit when I arrived. We left shortly after for Warrior Base. Crazy times! Charlie Killers!
@smbarrelhead I was clearing during Team Spirit, though I went the year before and actually got a Team Spirit Coin. I still remember First SGT Shin! tough dude! I lived in those quanson huts by the chow hall.
Thank you for posting this video. I just found out today thats where my son is going in January. I read some comments and wonder if its a place people are going who get into trouble then why would they send my son there. He is only just now graduating AIT, hasnt had a chance to get into trouble. I hope and pray he is okay here.
my brother it at camp casey right now and apparently he says its the worst base in s. korea. it's for the people who get in trouble or something like that....
Actually it is just one of the more Northern bases. i was stationed there in 1995-1995 with 2/72 Armor. Casey is actually a good place to be, it not for people who get in trouble but a lot of people can't handle being up there and get in trouble. Nothing like the turtle farm and 220 Club, "2nd to None Club"
Spent quite a bit of time in the field but it was a great place to be stationed as a tanker
well currently right now alot of people are getting into trouble. it is 2009 now and times have changed. and alot of people being sent to his base got in trouble at other bases in the south by the MP or who had drinking, stealing problems...and the Morale is very low coming from the upper chain of command...it looks very green and peaceful out there, but being from the midwest it doesn't look much different from other army bases. Thanks for posting the video again. God Bless!
I am happy you enjoyed it. I will try and get some more next time I go up. My last trip up there (last week) I was not able to stop at the PX area as I had planned. Next time up I will do my best.
lol the comment that was made about younge and 22 was funny. I was younge and 20 when I went there the first time 97 to 98 then again in 2000 to 2001. Looks alot different
that mout site was not there when i was stationed at 2-8 in 03, the drive brings back memories, hope to go back some day when i return to active duty. thanks for the vid hope to see more, show us what the ville looks like now. long live the memory of the tokari midget..lol
People like you are why I post particular videos showing obscure base environs. I only took video of a drive from Camp Hovey to the Flag pole, I will try to get more in the future.
Hey is the Turtle Farm still there in all its Quonset Hut glory? 91-92
