  • Techie question: Do you know what caused the sound problem around 30 seconds in? I got the same sort of thing filming 60163 at Shildon but haven't noticed anything like it before or since.

Lovely shot I hardly need add.

  • My suspicion is that it may be caused by a mobile phone especially an I Phone or Blackberry or possibly the overhead wires. But I had a really bad problem at the Severn Valley gala where there were no wires about! It is certainly intermittant and something I've noticed on other peoples videos too.

  • @acw71000 So no idea then...

I was haunting Shildon last weekend (Deltics) where there'd have been plenty of 'phones. I've also just looked through about 10 minutes of footage from Darlington shot yesterday- plenty of catenary there and a nearby substation and, as you note, that wouldn't account for problems at the SVR. (Just watched BTW- another gem.)

    How about mic's? Mine's an Audio-Technica Pro24-CM short shotgun.

  • I've had the same problem on both of my mics. a Rode Videomic and Sennheiser MKE400. Further investigation is obviously required!

  • @acw71000 Nothing in common there then. Panasonic camera?

  • I do use a Panasonic and although I get the noise on my Canon too I think it's worse on the Panny.

  • @acw71000 Looks like it might just be one of those occasional nuisances that is conveniently overlooked when anyone with an interest is explaining how digital is so much better than analogue. "Ah DVD picture quality is better than video." Of course it is... until one speck of dust gets on the disc and the whole screen freezes or the player jumps to the next index point.

  • It is always pleasant to see passing.

  • This must have been the one I got a brief glimpse of, passing through LSP. Great stuff....Keith

  • Thanks Keith, not often we see a GW intruder up here!

  • Brilliant again, Austin . . . . Alan

  • Cheers Alan, glad you enjoyed it

  • Beautiful & rhythmic...very relaxing to watch.

Austin, your transport videos are the best I've seen on YT, keep it up.

    Best wishes.

  • Thanks very much for your much appreciated comments

  • Now that's what I call Magic Austin, this magnificent machine in full cry out of Lime Street.....Thanks again for capturing an event as important as this in such quality....Bob

  • Thanks Bob, never thought I'd ever see a GW loco through the cuttings. I wonder what Bishop Treacy would have made of it!

  • That is a brilliant shot from Edge Hill of a locomotive working up the bank from Liverpool Lime Street well videoed "liked"

  • Thanks very much, never thought I would get the chance to see a GW loco powering up the bank

  • top drawer

  • Thanks very much

  • Great video of 5043 working really hard Austin. I remember you did a vid recently of 45305 at this point and it's fav of mine! For me The Earl is certainly a star performer which always puts up a great show especially with the 47 on the back which must be worth at least another 2 coaches. Thanks for sharing it! Ken

  • Many thanks Ken, Edge Hill is my preferred spot for workings out of LimeStreet and I just about managed to get a space on Saturday. As you rightly say, it was another superb performance from the Earl

  • The shooting of the arrival of the locomotive passing under bridges in succession, is a marvel. Thank you Austin for the right time.

    Philippe

  • Merci Philippe. Je pense toujours à des hommes qui ont dû travailler dans des conditions horribles de construction cette partie de la voie ferrée

  • Excellent video Austin! She looked and sounded great on the climb out of Liverpool LS. Thanks for Sharing!

  • Thanks Stuart, the Earl never disappoints

  • Cracking shot Austin , the Earl made the climb look easy and what a sound . Sorry you had a finger problem earlier . Regards Steve. Thanks for the 46115 update

  • Thanks Steve, a good climb by the Earl. I was pleased to salvage something from the day after the mornings problems!

  • Excellent shot

  • Thanks very much for your kind comment

  • Austin do you ever get a bad vid? glad to see you did the Earl proud, Edge Hill certainly had a big crowd on the day,it wasn't easy to find a spot but seeing it was all that matters.

  • Of course I do Dave, I'm still in search of the perfect video. The Earl did draw a big crowd, I was lucky to find a spot to squeeze into

  • good stuff...

  • Thanks very much

  • Amazing. This filming location is just perfect. Congratulations.:-)

  • Thanks, yes there is a lot of history around Edge Hill, many fine photographers have captured shots down in the cutting

  • Wonderful to hear, glad to see that the only sound you picked up from me was from my shutter, rather than my little lad who was milling around infront of everyone. My photos can be found in my Trains 2011 on Flickr under MJ_Wilson

  • Thanks, good to chat with you yesterday. Your little boy, Josh, is a credit to you, he was so good when the train came and even as it passed didn't shout out. Be happy to share a platform with him again anytime!

  • I heard that from my garden when it came past Newton-le-willows

  • Bet she surprised a few of the neighbours!

  • Excellent footage Austin, with the Earl sounding excellent as always.

  • Thanks very much. The Earl never disappoints does she?

  • Super clip Austin, topped off with the whistle. I arrived just before the train was dragged back and went over to platform 3. I thought you may have been there for the climb, but you must have driven off before I came out of the station.

    Mike

  • Thanks Mike, sorry I missed you at Edge Hill. I went to Runcorn in the morning and had a lovely silhouette shot lined up as she crossed the bridge. Lovely had I pressed the record button that is!!!

  • Once again, making it look easy. You might think 8 coaches isn't too much of a challenge, but add the 47 on the back, which was idling, that equals at least 11.

  • No doubt there will be plenty of detractors about the load despite the wonderful performances from the Earl in recent months. I agree with you, a good climb up the bank from Lime Street with a decent load

  • Thank you Austin. Another fine video of my favourite loco........Tim

  • Many thanks Tim, she is a favourite of mine too, so well cared for by Tyseleys professionals

  • Excellent performance by the Earl climbing the infamous bank.

    Cheers Phil.

  • Quite correct Phil, another little climb can be ticked off for the Earl with another fine run
