@gut2instinct alright calm down..... did you actually ever meet the guy and have a conversation? did he ever mention you? didn't see you at his funeral mate.
@standwak me being at his funeral has nothing to do with respecting him as a pilot. I don't need to know or have talked to the man to respect him. I guess Im just "old fashioned" and don't crack jokes at someones death.
@P0PAIVA I was there and he had no chance. He didnt ever try to pull up. One thing that could of been better was the responce time by the fire truck which took 10 minutes to get to the wreck.
@train2589 actually it looks like at 1:28 when the guy says "totaly out of control" he pulls up and looks like it tip stalls and it spun -- anyways atleast he died doing what he loved
Loss of orientation during manuver STARTED THE CHAIN REACTION OF EVENTS and he recovered too late and stalled on final stage of recovery engine didnt die he cut throttle to reduce rate of decent but as a result when he went to pull out and level the LEFT WING TIP STALLED sending it into a spiral dive JENSEN applied throttle briefly to try recover the tip stall but knew it was too late and cut throttle to reduce speed before impact. R.I.P Bryan died doing what you love. respect
I'm an ag-pilot, and I've been to more funerals than I care to think about.
Everyone goes down at some point in their life, fatal or not, whether the fault lies in the pilot or aircraft.
It's a part of life, but that phrase is almost always recited at their funerals.
Do you honestly think when you realize you're done for that you're still having a good time...that you're still doing what you love...knowing you're going to die?
@westtexasduster amen brotha! I love flying and I will never give it up, but man I get tired of people always saying "at least he died doing what he loved!" when one of my comrades go down. That's a great thought and all, but most likely they died completely terrified of the death they knew they were about to experience. Or, maybe they were so focused on fighting for their life they had no time to focus on their impending death - but they weren't having a good time. Reality is a bitch.
Nothing worse than to see a pilot so skilled and dedicated to his passion of life fall victim of any such circumstances.....and then have it described as pancaked!! RIP Bryan... Rake change your description and show some respect..
Obviously a comment by someone who is not working in the field of emergency services. This is a tragic event and there was nothing that could have been done regardless of where they were. You can't park a fire truck or put the responders in harms way or they will be part of the incident and won't be able to help. My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends an family of Mr. Bryan Jensen. R.I.P.
I'm pretty sure the pilot died instantly, but had he not, he would have burned to death. The 1'st responders must have been getting a Coke and a hot dog. They show up well past the point of rescue.
He would have made the first pullout over the crowd (and gotten in trouble) but he didnt take the chance in hurting anyone, he tried to correct but ran out of room, looks like bad luck and he dies a hero too.
What happened? It looks like it goes wrong with the first 1/2 roll right at the beginning of his maneuver. Then, he didn't have enough time to get the nose down and build up airspeed before pulling out of the dive. He may have gone into an accelerated stall too. Seems like there's little margin for error but that's part of the sport. This is truly tragic. I've heard he was an amazing pilot. My heart goes out to all his loved ones.
From what I can almost see in this (horribly shaky) video, I agree 100%. He was too low and slightly panicked in pulling too much up elevator, triggering another spin. I wonder if he could have recovered from the first spin if he had been able to use every inch of altitude available to him. Tragic accident. RIP Byron Jensen.
R.I.P. Bryan. You will be missed.

Worst way to die is to rot away in an elderly nursing home dying a prolonged "natural death", so at least he's spared that.

I was at the Pomona Valley Air Fair in 2000, and witnessed the Mark Madden crash. Similar maneuver too. This sure does bring things back.

Bullshit.
Pretty sure he wasn't thinking "I fucking love crashing into the ground" when it happened.
That's just something you say to yourself to feel better about it all.

Do you think that maybe his fuel pump failed or something and the fuel couldn't get to the engine? He was pulling negative G's when it failed.

He pulled too hard, coming out of the spin, so he went into a contra spin, and didn't have enough altitude to get out of that.
