@KuraiShoka No you do not need to live in Japan to play. You can be anywhere to play online as long as you have everything needed to play.

In the NTSC version "Secret Area" was active on weekends and the added bonuses like double result points for beating scenarios with new options or revealing all locations of SP items (Special Items). The Japan version doesn't do that.
