Here is the difference. Maradona did this in the WORLD cup, and Maradona did this against England, one of the best teams in football history.
Messi is a good player, worthy of being talked about as one of the best contemporary players, but does not need to be compared to Maradona. Not until he proves his worthy. For starters, score a goal in the WC, then see if you can win it. I don't want to hear the playmaker bullcrap. That might be true but he couldnt finish. Maradona Could. And did.

the speed at which messi was running was quicker plus he got a nutmeg in and the getafe players actually tried to tackle him. whereas the england players let maradona come inside them and just keep running, nobody even attempted to tackle him until the very end.

well the goals are identical.. but the difference is that Maradona scored this goal during the fifa world cup semi finals or quater finals dont quite remember while messi scored it in a La Liga game againt some mediocre team while Maradona scored it against England i believe... THATS THE DIFFERENCE... dont get me wrong though ... i personally believe Messi is better and more skillful than Maradona, but he hasnt performed for Argentina on the big level.. but so far this worldcup he's been great

@nickthefox72 I'm a united fan and i love george best but how can u possibly say maradona (carried argentina to a world cup and napoli to a serie a title) and messi (2 european cups and world footballer of the ear by age 22) was better than them. Pele was overrated, he never played top class domestic football, was brilliant in 58 because he had garrincha doing all the hard work. He bombed in 62 and 66 then in 70 played really well but he had a amazing team behind him. Messi and maradona...Kings

@panicmad90 Messi's a top player, perhaps the best, sure he's done well setting goals up, but theres been others who i feel have shone more...Mesut Ozil of Germany has been outstanding, Asamoah Gyan of Ghana, Jong Tae Se of North Korea (fair enough they got gubbed in that group but look who they were up against, and i feel he played extremely well up front all alone against Brazil especially), all these players have in my opinion outshone the "superstars" like Rooney, Ronaldo, Torres and Messi.
