I always thought the more tension the better the sound......I used to think of my self as semi pro. Now I have rerated my self as professional amateur.
do you have any idea why my snare wires are loosening all by themselfes while I'm playing? You can actually see how the tensioning knob(or this turn thingy however you call it xD) turn while playing. it's a pretty knew snaredrum and i have no idea why this happens. I actually started to put a piece of tape on it so it can't move anymore. I didn't overtighten the wires they are actually pretty loose. Thanks for your help on all your videos. regards from Germany
FABULOUS VIDEO! way too many drummers just crank crank crank thier snares.
seems too many just want to tighten top & bottom heads to JAB(Just Almost Busting), then crank the wires as tight as they can, & NEVER throw the wires loose when not playing or storage & wonder why the drum doesn't sound as good as it use to. The bottom head it exhausted and the wires are fatiqued. Sad to see this too often. This was excellent video demo on how people are choking their snare drums & tuning in frustration
@bouncingpogostick No it means muffling the drum, compressing the sound, typically to get rid of overtones or unwanted decay. Some heads come with built-in dampening rings.
hey bob question...are you always doing rim shots? I'm a traditional grip player and find it really hard to do them. I've always never been a rim shot guy to get the sound i like from a snare. just wondering though. Thanks!
@MagiDrummer i think tilting the head in a certain way to your benefit/preference can help you get those rim shots clean and cut. I know exactly how you feel cuz in jazz band i sometimes switch to a traditional but it's always a pain in the ass to get those rim shots in
@MagiDrummer In professional drums schools, they'll teach to you rim shot the snare to give a stronger back beat. (I know you left this a year ago, but in case you haven't heard anything, haha :D)
I simply will not follow any other advice....because of Bob, I have a kick drum sound that I am extremely happy with and tonight I followed the snare tuning vids and now my snare went from something horrid to something beautiful.
because of this guy i used to be afraid of even going near my snares! but after watching most if not all of his tuning videos and videos about snares im finally working my way to a perfect sound.
i have a 42 strand on my snare but i think its just to much snare and i cant hear the actual drum , was thinking if a 20 strand or something would be nice or lower than that would be to much drum not enough snare? thanks
