Actually what the guards are holding LOOKS like an M16A2. This may be because what we're watching is a reenactment but if it IS an M16A2, then the caliber of bullet it fires isn't 2.23mm it's 5.56mm. Don't know why the hell the inmate thinks it's 2.23mm ...

Either way, you're right Lyden2006. The bullet bouncing from bone to bone once inside you is what the inmate should worry about much more than it "rip[ing] through ya when it hits ya". It only it were that simple!

the rifles in this reenactment are M16A2's, and they fire the 5.56 NATO which derived from the .223 Remington sporting cartridge. the 5.56 NATO is the standard ammunition for the United States Military. Correct me if im wrong

No need to correct you as you're absolutely right! Really the only difference between the two rounds is in the maximum amount of chamber pressure that is produced when the firing pin strikes the primer. As far as I'm aware, a .223 round may be fired in an M16A2 because the maximum chamber pressure produced is less than what the chamber is designed to contain. The inverse is not possible without a risk to personal safety.

Still ... why does he think it's a .223 round? Odd.
