This was an awesome horn and this is coming from a wings fan. This sound drove me nuts in the 2002 series between us and you guys. I use to hate hearing this because of how the momentum shifted to colorado. Bring it back avs!
I dont know why the changed it. You knew it was pandemonium when this goal horn went off. It intimidated the opposition and hyped the crowd. I don't like the new one at all. The Flames, Blackhawks and Stars have the top 3 horns now.
@GrkFlyersFan it was a siren.. i love the Avalanche siren cause it fits the geographic location.. i'm assuming its supposed to be an avalanche warning siren? plus they old goal score announcements over pa was soo awesome!!

@predsfan74 I figured as much. As a kid in the 90s, some teams still had sirens like these, some teams didn't have any goal horn at all. Washington had a siren which they still use, but now they drown it with Buffalo's goal horn. Pittsburgh had a siren exactly like this until the lockout. The Islanders had one until like '99 or 2000. The Rangers had a really high-pitched siren in the early 90s I saw on NHL Network. The last teams to get a goal horn of any kind were Toronto and Phoenix.
@GrkFlyersFan welll it wasnt exactly like that, it was just a siren...pens had it way before colorado even moved from quebec....the thing that made the Avs siren so great is it is original and geographically fitting...it wouldnt be very good in a place like miami (panthers) cause they dont get snow!lol

Contrary to several clips here on youtube, Quebec never had a siren, but they did have a low horn, and at the end some other hornlike sound. Since moving to Colorado they had a siren, although it sounded a little messed up until they moved to the Pepsi Center. Then a little before the lockout, they got their current one. My Flyers are on their 3rd horn, the current one being in use since Dec 2005.

Love this horn, the new one just isn't near as intimidating. But my favorite is and will always be the Stars. Freight train through he stadium.
