Songs from the Big Chair sounds much better on vinyl than CD. Don't get me wrong, the CD is good but vinyl is better. Playing it on a DUAL CS-721 probably don't hurt either! ;-)
@junknira And that's your own fault because they just toured the US West Coast last summer and the US East Coast this summer. I had been waiting 25 years myself. I decided to go to two shows, they were that good!
yeah Curt seems to not like their look back then. I had no prob with their look... He says, he likes the t-shirts he wares now lol lol. New tour dates posted on Curt's sites. TFF to tour so far around Australia/NZ April 2010 and Asia May 2010. Check out Curt Smith site or Facebook to get the information from the horses mouth... I'm in the US so I'll have to wait. TFF, they're more than an addiction hahaha
It listens to this hits and other songs in RADIO DISCOTEQUE. It enters in GOOGLE or YAHOO the words RADIO DISCOTEQUE and it discovers a new dimension of radio in Internet.
If you listen to 1.03 you hear the pianoriff that opens Head over Heela severly sped up. (On teh album it's much clearer) but it's another exemaple how Broken and Head over heels are incredibly similiar.
Roland has indeed a power voice, but Curt has, in my opinion, more soulful voice. Each has different style, the songs they sing fit their vocals perfectly. I'm a huge TFF fan, and I love Curt;-)
@thesunandtherain if your a true tears for fears fan, you wouldnt be saying whos better than who, because they both make the bamd what it is. If you didnt notice, Rolands solo attempt for Tears for Fears got nowhere. Im pretty sure everybody prefers them being together as a band.
Another one of my favorite bands from the 80's. At first I didn't care for their arrogant attitude regarding some of the other bands I liked....but that soon was water under the bridge. These guys were (and still are) badassed musicians.
One of the most interesting aspects of this song is the irony of how the music sounds so uplifting and has that in-your-face rock sound when the lyrics are actually totally the opposite. It's about hopelessness. Had this song been on 'The Hurting' album, it would have sounded different to this version. 'Songs from the Big Chair' album had that extroverted quality which many people could relate to. It had a universal appeal in that sense.
I could not agree with you more. I listen to ever liric Tears comes out with, so on that note I do understand what he's singing about. It's a great song.
Jam!!! On Tears For Fears!! I'm an 80's kid to the core from Wisconsin!! I lived by this "CD tape" LOL on the way to work. Loved every tune. Songs From The Big Chair!!
Curt and Roland used to say that the 'Songs from the Big Chair' tour was the most taxing and energy sapping period of their musical history. They have also said they didn't enjoy very much and it became a chore for them later. But can any of you ever believe them while watching this footage? Look at the way they are performing this song and the way they speak. On video, TFFs performance at Massey Hall in Canada was the most energetic and the most enjoyable.
I have this dvd and it looks to me that they are enjoying it.I'll bet when they look back now they realize that. From this dvd probably Broken and The Working Hour are my favorites, although the whole thing is good.I don't know if anyone could offer me enough money that I would give this up! TFF will always be the best!!
When I was in drumline in high school we did a show of Tears For Fears arrangements. It was infinitely awesome playing some of the best music out there.
This video was released on DVD about 3 years ago, called 'Scenes from the Big Chair' and is still available, it also has their live concert from around 1990 on it, which is great.
This is on their home video for the Songs from the Big Chair tour video released in 1985. It's probably out of print but maybe you can find it on Ebay.
Wow! I have never seen Tears for Fears in concert and it is a dream for me to see them live! I have been a fan for a long time, though (for about 16 years)!
Thank you so much for the good musical vibrational pathway to universal higher ground and the incredible brain endorphin release that this song triggers for me every time i hear it LOL
Jeez thanks a lot Tears for Fears! Now every time I hear this song I have to get up and dance! Especially Roland at 00:41 and 1:07 and 1:14 and Curt at 1:02 lol. Just kidding I love your moves I love you guys, great song ;)
tears for fears is the best band i ever knew...for the combination of the talents of its musicians...just listen how they make this fabulous and unique sound......if only they were younger

Broken goes into Head over heels and when head over heels ends, a reprise from broken is played.
