  • I first heard this recording as a schoolboy in the mid 1950's & it blew me away. It was the used as the signature tune on a late night jazz programme broadcast from AFN Kassel I think the show was called "cool Kassel" ( any other old timer out there remember it ) Got the record 78, ep, & cd subsequently of course - Thanks for posting 60otaku san

  • You're welcome, thomas1140-san!!

  • one of the very best.

  • With all the agitation going on today, Johnny gives a nice breather from it all. 60otaku3, thanks for uploading this.

  • if it's of interest to anyone this was a particular favorite of the young eddie cochran and he played it over and over.

  • One of the funniest stories I've ever heard concerned Les Paul. He was in his garage at his house in New jersey, working on one of his many projects, when the intercom buzzed. It was his son telling him that "Some guy named Django Reinhart is here to see you." Les was slightly irritated by this interruption and snapped, "Right! Send Jesus Christ in with him." 30 seconds later, he was face to face with Django and Johnny Smith...

  • just ordered this, in vinyl .. really excited about it

  • It's hard to get my head head around the fact that stan getz attempted to rob a pharmacy for morfein one day and play such relaxing, beautiful music any other day

  • great album, great song

  • great guitar playing! Pretty hard to play all things.

  • Just recently discovered Johnny Smith . Interesting that he also wrote WALK DON'T RUN which was a hit for The Ventures .

  • Moonlight in Vermont was Downbeat magazines 1952 album of the year

  • Beautiful

  • Peteboy, as I recall, the year was 1968 or so. He had just put out the album with the oval cutout that pictured the Johnny Smith guitar. It comprised such tunes as Golden Earrings, Yesterday, and Here's That Rainy Day. Incredible stuff!

  • When I was a boy, I actually got to see him play in person. It was at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. On the bill was Bola Sete, Kenny Burrell, and Gabor Szabo. I had learned some of the tunes from his latest album, things like Golden Earrings, Yesterday, etc. He was with the VERY musicians of that album! Using a fairly small amp, his sound he filled the auditorium. He sounded EXACTLY like the album - pristine, precise, impeccable! It was amazing! Thankyou God for that experience! JS

  • what year was this.

  • Youtube just took me to this video and what a fantastic piece of luck that was. What is the best of this kind of music? - Surely this must be it?

  • I think that it is very difficult for you to look for music resembling this.

It is because this is the best!

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • Thanks for that!

  • @SteveArpo Look for Barney Kessel if you like this :)

  • What do you mean by RCM ?

  • Johhny Smith worked for CBS and played on all the LIVE TV shows back in the day.

He also played on the Arthur Godfrey Show. Unique Stylist.

  • I wonder if those tv shows could be transferred to dvd's to see the great

Johnny Smith? That would be so great, awesome musician.

  • What a tone.

  • my ears just had multiple orgasms

  • you mean eargasms?

  • Johnny Smith's in a class by himself; he makes every other jazz guitarist sound like elevator slop. I can't listen to anyone else.

  • Wes Montgomery?????

    Jimmy Rainey????

    DJANGO RHEINHARDT????

    CHARLIE CHRISTIAN!!!?????

  • Alright, I was overgeneralizing. Smith's still my favorite, even his comping is haunting.

  • Jim Hall???

I agree, though, Jonny Smith is one of the greats.

  • I agree, Johnny Smith is one of a kind. I have his box set of recordings, and I am truly amazed with his playing.

  • just bought this on CD yesterday. Wonderful warm sounding recording, and awesome playing to say the least!

  • My mother bought this record after we heard the sound in the neighborhood. I was almost 10yrs then. This song and James Moody, " Moody"s Mood for Love " were a must-have for evey home at that time. I have since purchased the box set on Johnny Smith.(MosaicRecords}. He is still playing in his 90's.

  • Anybody got the Maynard Ferguson arrangement with Irene Kraal as the vocalist. That's awesome. It's on his "Boy With Lots of Brass" album. Total.

  • Classic!

  • i LOVE THIS WARM SOUND...

  • Thank you for the comment, praterzen!

I also love his guitar sounds for a reason same as you.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • @praterzen he uses a high mid range with everything turned down
