@lmarr07 Serious, I get this too, I think it's those who think it doesn't happen anymore, or we should move on and mix and be just like white people because they want to believe that we're all the same, or if it's not a black person, they say it because it means nothing to them. It's ignorance and it's annoying. From I have some surname that I can't relate to and speak this english language then I'm still a slave and that goes for the majority of black people.

@lovon1000 Exactly! My grandma took on the surname El, whenever they would address her by her surname they would always attach it to the slave name. Ex. Garrettel. Surnames weren't always around, families were identified by clan names, patronymics or tribes.
