  • Chevy is so much better then Ford!

  • da bu

  • ive seen worse from non eco v6 engines

  • 11.5 seconds to get to 60.... lol

  • wheres the cvt?

  • Buick lesabre 3800 kills all these cars

  • @RCJ50670

    3800 FTW!!

  • chevy sucks

  • 20 people have bad gas mileage in their cars :P

  • I had never seen a hybrid with real automatic transmission. Most have CVT gearbox, wich i really hate. It's nice to know that even in this "eco times", some cars still have driving pleasure.

  • Fusion Hybrid kicks ass

  • What? That's all the combined 2.4L engine AND electric motor can do?? My 1.6L Honda Civic is faster than that.

  • This guy put up the wrong chevy 0-60mph show. Imma get my V6, six speed malibu with 20" rims, no engine mods on here and show you what a real stock malibu should and can do.

  • @MalibuRiding757 And then come see what a stock V6 Sport Fusion does :)

  • @MalibuRiding757 if you ride a malibu something is wrong with you. they are crap. chevy is crap.

  • "cleaner" environment and better gas mileage vs. 0-60 time under 11 seconds....SCREW THE ENVIRONMENT! I'd rather take a gas guzzler that can perform when it needs to over a hybrid that cant get out of its own way any day.

  • @Nebraskahusker23 .................thanks bitch

  • That's a hybrid? I thought all hybrids were CVT

  • @talldude123 No? What made you think that. You can get a manual transmission on the Honda CR-Z

  • I had more fun watchin the prius XD

  • my impala 3.5 kills this

  • @90Mrknowitall Well this is a 2.4 hybrid. So congratulations.

  • @90Mrknowitall i've seen a PoS beat up nissan sentra beat this. and the sentra (along with all nissans) are gaarbage. shame on chevy!

  • umm malibu isnt that slow, what's wrong with this one

  • @coolgames14 what's wrong with it? it's a hybrid.

  • that is one LONG ass first gear.

  • @monono954 eh not really our impala ltz (2008) reacher around 50 in first

  • @monono954 but still nice

  • @monono954 The 4TXXE transmissions found in many older GM cars like the 2000-05 Impala have a first car that maxes at 55MPH.

  • hybrids r fail, buy diesel if u want economy

  • is this a joke??

  • @drums2play1 nope..What do u expect? Its a hybrid :D

  • @LazBro123 i expect it 2 be as fast as the other hybrids such as the fusin camary altima variants that r much quicker

  • What 'hybrid' engine revs to 7000 RPM? That's a new one. :D

  • 0-60 11.478 sec 0-60. or you could say 11.478 years

  • that was 11.2 days

  • i have a malibu ls 2.4 that thing gets 1 mpg less than hybrid

  • i hate that you can hear the transmission whine. this would be a good car, though.

  • On my 07malibu you cant hear anything even when full out sprinting it. Its wierd and speeds up hella fast

  • this isnt full throttle. the title should reflect that. or the information.

  • those 2.4s sure like to rev high ha.

at 0:11 its gotta be 6800 rpms, if not more haha

  • @94crapalier New GM engines all go that high. The 3.6L DI V6 goes all the way up to 7100-7200. The new Mustang V8 will go to 7,000 too.

  • 0-100 kph (0-62 mph)

    12 sec. (0:05 - 0:17 )

  • At first i thought this wasnt the hybrid lmao the face i made

  • The fusion hybrid war not the malibu hybrid, which they stop making because of poor sales

  • camry hybird= overpriced bland/boring toyota crap.

id take any domestic hybrid over some bland toyota any day.

  • Well see what car is still driving problem free in 20 years

  • it wont be that camry thats for sure, new toyotas are NOT like the old ones.

  • Show me a toyota/honda that has been a daily driver for 20 years with NO PARTS replaced.

  • You have fun with your slow domestic. Toyota is the #1 selling Hybrid brand in the US. And The Camry is the #1 selling sedan in the US with the Corolla and Civic following behind. So Apparently people want more Import's than Ford's. And my Camry was built in KY. A lot of shitty fords are built in Canada.

  • lmfao,

    slow?

    your sick in the brain.

ford is winning the battle man, take your head out of toyotas ass for a change and look around.

  • The Fusion Hybrid is so much quicker than this. And in that video, the Fusion was getting 45.5 mpg compared to 30.8 for this Malibu. Hahaha Ford rules.

  • Truly... My 12 year old Cavalier 2.2, 3 speed auto is almost exactly as fast as this. I timed mine at ~11.27 seconds 0-60, I timed this at 11.38 seconds.

  • nice didn't know they made them in a hybrid... Tell me why it would need a 140mph speedometer? I don't even go that fast...

  • 2010 fusion hybrid beat this in the other mpgomatic video, I played them at the same time. Go fusion!

  • I watched the ford fusion hybrid vid and it would smoke this car.

  • Yea, and the malibu is the only hybrid in it's class that doesn't have a cvt, don't know why they chose not to.

  • it's because it's not really even a hybrid. The electric motor does nothing to move the car, it only restarts the motor when you lift off the brake and it charges the batteries when you slow. It's a mild hybrid so they dont need the cvt to route power from to engines.

  • Well that's kind of a waste of a hybrid badge. Just turning off the engine and turning it on might save some gas but not enough I wouldn't think.

  • My Camry Hybrid is 2 seconds faster than the Fusion hybrid 0-60.

  • camry hybrid is trash compared to the domestics.

  • Yea right, if so then why is the Camry the #1 selling sedan in America and not Chevy Malibu or Ford Fusion?

  • dude its hybrid camry cant even compare to the domestics, the domestics won the hybrid battle, on top of that the interiors on the domestics BLOW AWAY the interior of a camry, plasma center? give me a break lmao.

ford fushion or malibu hybrid interiors are 1000 times better.

  • But are they just as reliable? no, they're not. American cars aren't reliable at all.

  • your an idiot.

you have no case to debate.

  • Calm down. Its a known fact. Toyota/Honda/Nissan>Ford/Chevy/Chrysler(or any american car make)

They are such a hassle to maintain in good shape. I'm not being a fanboy. My dad has owned 3 chevys, and 1 ford. they all broke down after they passed 100k miles.

My point is that imports(especially japanese) are built much more efficiently than American cars. A 4 cylinder subaru is faster than a 8 cylinder mustang. Catch my drift?

  • Nerdy is certainly right.. It is NOT a "known fact". Ford on-par with their foreign counterparts. (2010 Fusion, Edge, Flex... Ecoboost...) We currently own 4 american cars. There have been minimal problems with them. Oh by the way that subaru is a turbocharged flat-4 in a car a hell of a lot lighter than the mustang. It has no low-end torque (the mustang does). Catch MY drift? I want to see your face when Ford puts the 3xx HP ECoboost, and 5.0L V8 in the mustang and it kicks subie ass

  • Yes, they are reliable. We have the cars to prove it. Our 03 expedition: Problems in 55,000 miles over 7 years: Alternator, 2 ignition coils, fuel pump (being replaced now). Dad's jeep: transmission our own fault for filling it with mud off roading. Mustang: nothing. My cav: tranny at 120k miles (previous owner never changed tranny fluid). Meanwhile toyotas suffer from sludge problems, honda has crappy automatic trannys, both brands are incomparably boring.

  • You just proved my point by listing all these problems with cars that haven't surpassed 150,000 miles. I like that American car manufacturers are trying hard o improve the quality in their vehicles, but i still wouldn't buy one.

Before you reply ask yourself this. Why is it that everyday, you're guaranteed to see a 1980's to 1990's honda on the road at least five times? And why is it that Fords, or Chryslers or a dodge are hardly ever seen?

  • Really, I did? Ok let me explain something to you. I have more car/mechanical knowledge in one fingernail than you do in your whole body. I never seen an early 90s or earlier toyota or honda every day. Around here, anything earlier than late 90s is rare. And you make it sounds like "imports" NEVER EVER have problems. They do, I see it all the time. Honda transmissions are CRAP. And if you noticed, the two transmission problems were because of abuse.

  • I agree!... My sister in law had her tranny in her Honda Accord at 50K, then it broke again at 75K but warranty was gone by then! I just preferred fords, I never had any problems wih my fords, I Had, Lincolns, I still have a 1986 Mercury cougar, ok replaced the engine and transmission at 200K but now I have almost 500K on it.

  • I know a guy who has an early 2000s toyota corolla. Thus far, in less than 100k miles, hes put 2 transmissions, a new head, like 4 sets of brakes, new window motors, alternator, and PCM.... That sounds like quality product to me. Believe it or not, most american cars are just as reliable anymore as so called "imports". (Funnily enough most of which are assembled in the US)

  • Just because theyre assembled in the US, that doesnt mean they have american parts. Oh and notice how i said that you see old Hondas everyday. I saw 3 90-95 civics today. honda transmisoins are not crap. Any car thas abused will have problems, but you have to go out of your way to maintain an american car in good running condition vs. a jap. Americans really know how to build awesome and reliable trucks, but theyre commute cars and family sedans(taurus) are crap.

No need to get all defensive.

  • The late 90s, up to like 2004 Honda transmissions were very prone to failure.

  • Now that is true, but the rest of the models are pretty good. my sister had an '01 3.2CL Type - S with the same problem, but the dealer fixed it free of cost. She bought that car with 106,000 miles and traded it in when it had 251,000 miles on it.(She would constantly drive without changing her oil for about 5-6 month periods) So hondas really know how to build a long lasting engine. I think they stopped using that platform after '03(calendar year, not model year) though.

  • But i will say the Ford Modular engine platform is just a masterpiece. Its probably the only great American engine out there.

  • The modular is very good yes, we are lucky to have one in our expedition. But other great american engines are GMs Ecotec, AMC/Chrysler 4.0L Inline 6, GMs 3800 V6, and the Ford 3.5L Duratec

  • i see old gm cars and trucks all the time

  • My Camry Hybrid's faster than both :D

  • Not by much, and the fusion gets better fuel economy to make up for the tenth of a second it is behind the camry in 0-60. 44.5 combined, vs 39 combined.

  • Motortrend rated the MPG virtually the same.

  • Well mpgomatic rated it what I said. So... believe what you want.

  • My Fiancee's never get's more than 33 and she drives like granny haha. It's a great car though. Kinda worried since it's Ford's first completely designed on their own Hybrid.

  • Toyota isn't the only company that can make good cars, it seems as though ford did just fine making the hybrid system. In a car and driver comparison between the camry, malibu, altima, and fusion hybrid, they rated the fusion 1st place. Everyone says the fusion is more involved in the driving, better handling, that sort of stuff which is stuff I like in a car. Seems to be the best hybrid sedan on the market atm.

  • honestly, thats awful for a car of that class. A hybrid camry would rock that

  • Well generally people who buy hybrids don't buy them because they are fast....

  • This isn't a full hybrid, it's only a mild hybrid. Mild hybrids don't get the acceleration boost from their electric motors like full hybrids do. Chevy is dropping the hybrid Malibu for 2010 anyway. Thank God!

  • pretty shitty... but since its a hybrid I guess the bars are a little bit lower set for the sake of being green. Damn environment... LOL

  • Not bad, but the Non-hybrid model is much quicker than that.

  • @kevin361 wayy quicker

  • @kevin361 Well of course.

  • At first I thought it was a CVT seeing how slow it went to 60mph

  • Its consitered a CVT, but it has for easy quick gear pulls. Look it up.

  • That's not quick. I don't understand, why mate a Hybrid car with a shitty ass 4 speed when you put so much tech into it? A waste of time imo.

  • I'm pretty sure the auto in the malibu is a 6spd

  • Nope. Just found out it's a 4 speed auto.

  • Well 4 the LTZ 4 cylinder spring package the 6 speed is standard. Also for the 6 cylinder the 6 speed is standard. With "Paddle Shifters" both trims. If you go with MALIBU LS the 4 speed will be standard

  • This is a four speed.

  • DAMN, this thing aint got enough power to merge into traffic, i would opt out for the V6 and you only loseing a few MPG less, and has plent of power!

  • If its a hybrid it cant be that fast. No offense

  • Haha just because its faster than a prius, that doesnt mean its not a hybrid.

  • Im not doubting at all its a hybrid. Im sure it is, but it really is slow.

  • 11 seconds. the prius can do it in less time...

  • @occckid123 but can the prius look decent and can a prius driver not be such smug #@%T^$&^?

  • @occckid123 hmm...the prius does it in about 10 seconds, this one in a little under 11 seconds...so what..maybe one second difference MAX? Did you ever realize that the malibu is a foot and a half longer, and about 500 lbs heavier?

The malibu looks a LOT nicer, i would WAY rather drive that thing around, as opposed to some fugly hatchback prius. Not saying the prius is a shitty car, because it's not, but you put your comment way out of perspective.

  • @roberth214 ok but im saying that why buy this when u can get a camry altma or fusion that gets way better gas mileage and is wayy quicker? I was just saying that even a prius is as quick

  • @occckid123 because it's not all about speed when it comes to cars...i've driven the new altima, and they're great cars. i love the camry and fusion, but what I'M saying is that it's not all about speed.

  • @roberth214 i hear u. I guess i cant talk because im driving around in a Versa lmao! Watch my videos!

  • @occckid123 ya and i drive a pos fourth gen maxima...though it's fairly powerful, and yeah i watched the vid of you accelerating in your versa =p

  • @roberth214 dude a 4th gen maxiam isnt bad or a pos you can beat alot of cars you just dont know

  • @jsnevels2 well, it's not a pos, it's got 190 hp, but it's big and heavy...i tested my 0-60, best i ever got was like 7.6 seconds.

  • @roberth214 Thats good for 1995-1999 maxima and its not that heavy as you think dude they barely weigh 3 thounds pound is that heavy for a maxima no

  • @jsnevels2 that doesn't make much sense...with 190 hp it should be faster then. I checked, you're right, it's about 3000 lbs. Maybe my bhp is a lot lower than 190hp.

  • @roberth214 Well if its an aoutmatic its gonna be slower but manual its faster the manual 0-60 6.7 auto 7sec. Overtime your gonna lose hp not matter what

  • altima hybrid got to 60 in 6.9 secs in one review while getting better gas mileage...

  • No rice

  • explain

  • No body cares what an Altima hybrid can do on a GM video. Take that to the rice section.

  • @GXPFiend lmao

  • Haha that's for sure. But they do not have the same kind of hybrid powertrain at all. I love GM, but I wonder why they got that shitty malibu hybrid out for sale...That's a piece of shit crap :P

  • Because it gets better mileage than the pure gas version maybe? Duh.

  • It needs the 6 speed auto badly.

  • subiedriver and bajabusta, you guys are like a bickering married couple.

I've driven the Malibu 2.4 a few times on long distance trips, and I have owned a Honda 4-pot. I was very pleasantly surprised by how smooth and refined the Malibu 2.4 was, in fact, in my mind, I thought that this could have been a Honda motor if I covered up the badges. Whether it SOUNDS smoother, I'll leave it up to you two to argue, but I'll say that I really liked the VTEC-like whine on the Malibu near high rpms.

  • BTW, I would buy a new Malibu, not with a 4 cylinder though, the 3.6 v6 is a fantastic and smooth engine that doesn't sound like its going to fall apart when it gets near the redline.

  • And how would I change my opinion to fit the facts? GM has NEVER been known to make a high quality 4 banger. You remember the Quad-4? That was about the best boat anchor GM ever called an engine. The 3800 and the old school V8's is what GM does best.

  • I won't ever discount that statement about GM's record of lame duck 4 poppers. That was then, and this is now. So my statement about changing opinion to fit facts still stands. Until you spend time behind it don't assume it's w/o merrit.

  • while the new inline fours have just as much horsepower as the shitty old malibus' v6, they dont have as much torque, making it hard to move the 3500 lb sedan around. 7 years they have come a long way in interior and exterior styling. if you saw one in person you would trade your cheap old malibu in on a new 4 banger in a heartbeat

  • Sounds like crap. Too harsh and buzzy.

  • how do you even percieve that from a vid, this vid? Impossible.Try changing your opinion to fit the facts, quit changing the facts to fit your opinion.

  • Have you ever heard a Honda four-cylinder? That is pretty much the gold standard of refinement as far as engines go. The engine in this video (the audio IS clear enough, you can clearly hear that the turn signal click is of the electronic-through the stereo speaker variety) has a very shrill and droning sound. Hell, my 1990 subaru legacy's engine sounds smoother then that malibu's does.

  • I have probably owned more cars than you have ever driven. Yes, don't insult my knowledge about the automobile. My point is that you can't discern from a video the 'Courseness' of a mill. Get behind the wheel to make those comments. ECOTEC's are not are rough as you PERCIEVE them, infact have been noted for their relative smoothness. Your legacy SOUNDS smoother, there you go again.

  • So what if you have owned more cars then I have driven? I am in fact in my second year of a bachelors degree in vehicle engineering AND an internship @ Subaru of Indiana Automotive as a powertrain inspector and engineer. I've seen technology that you probably couldn't fathom. And why, may I ask, are you hell bent on defending a car that came in dead last in a hybrid comparison? Check the link

  • I am defending the fact that you can NOT tell an engines smoothness, or courseness from a video. Not the car.

  • It came in dead last huh? Its a mild hybrid, meant for everyday driving with a small improvement in mileage.

  • wow my 01 malibu is faster than that

  • your 01 hybrid?

  • no. It's a 3.1 v6. But even by v6 standards she's slow. I just thought that within the 7 yrs. they would have made the inline 4's with some more omph

  • once it gets past 30 it does ok.
