  • Love this tip Donna, I have been using my cereal bags for all kinds of things. But the coolest use I found was to open them up and use them between layers of rolled pie crust for freezing. I make several crusts at a time and layer them in a large pizza pan, cover with plastic wrap or foil and freeze. Works great! All my best to you and your family.

  • @05blackponi ~ You've created your own 'convenience' food for pennies - that people pay 'top dollar' for in the pilsbury isle of ready-dough....YAY! You get like 5 gold stars! (o:

Thanks for sharing this tip! I love it!!

  • After they're empty, I rinse out the liners, hang them to dry and store them in a drawer in the kitchen. Mostly I use them to store washed lettuce, with a clothespin fastening down the top. Also, I've used them on trips to town with a damp washcloth inside, to clean the grandchildrens' face and hands. Wet Ones leave an alcohol taste and I much prefer a washcloth to those really thin commercial ones. Besides, my method is free!

  • @Mingowildcat - These are GREAT tips for using those free wax paper prizes! Thank you!!! I love the lettuce one....and hopefully have grandkids before too long so I'll remember that!

  • Nice I never thought of this I was looking for some the other day and had to run to the store. You Rock!

  • Thanks for your very kind words!

Hope this saves you a trip to the store next time! (o:

  • My friend taught me that. Now I have more than I need and that box of wax paper sits in the basement un-used. Just love that idea.

  • I know! I have had a virtually unused box of wax paper for well over a year because of this.

And when they get too 'sticky,torn,what-ever' to wash again - I don't feel bad about throwing them out at al!

    Thanks for the comment!

  • This is not about food storage, but it is a reuse idea. I don't like the idea of paper towels very much, so for everyday napkins and counter wipes I bought a few packs of inexpensive wash cloths. they were in packs of 15 for about five dollars each. they just get tossed in the laundry and can be used for ALL small cloth uses in the kitchen.

  • GREAT TIP!

Hey - to me if it saves $ in one area, that's money used in another! Also cuts down on paper product waste!

    Love this idea!

Hubby has a paper napkin fettish....wonder if I can break him of it...(o:

    Thanks for the reuse tip!

  • Years ago, I read that these are THE BEST FREEZER BAGS! So...I wash them like ziploc bags, and store homemade bread in them. I actually use them for everything...the other half of a head of lettuce or cabbage, fresh broccoli, cauliflower, etc... If they are too small (like from triscuits), I use them as sandwich bags. Sometimes I even re-use the cracker sleeves for hotdogs and burritos on the go!

  • Ok...I replied to this the other day...hmmm...youtube is messing with my head...you make the third person!

    LOVE this idea! LOVE IT!

Yep, the wax paper does a good job of not allowing any moisture build up so it's great for all the things you mentioned! And when it's FREE wax paper it's even BETTER (o:

Thanks for the comment and idea!

  • I'll wrap sandwiches.

  • Oh that's good! I forget about wax paper being so good to keep things like sandwiches fresh without moisture! Nice reminder!

    Thanks! Best Blessings!

  • i watched one of your videos about storing shredded cheese in the freezer and ever since ive been saving the resealable bags the already shredded cheese comes in so when i shred my own cheese it already has a labled bag sometimes i use them for other things since it has the resealable lining

  • Hey that's a great reusable idea! Way to go!!!

  • Five Stars!!

  • Your videos are terrific!

what are your thoughts...I have a vacuum food saver. The bags are so expensive. If I buy something in a heat sealed bag & do not use all of it, I cut of the end of the bag, get the vacuum sealer out & reseal the bag. It saves money but do you think this is safe?

  • For long term storage of dry goods, (like nuts, or coffee) here's a vacuum seal idea. Place them in a canning jar. Place the canning jar in a large vacuum seal container. Use the tube to vacuum seal the container with the jar inside. Release the air in the container and take the jar out. It will be sealed air tight. if you pull off the lid of the jar, you will hear that air tight "pop". Canning jars are MUCH cheaper than the vacuum seal containers, and the bags to purchase.

  • Does the lid for the canning jar need to be the typical seal and rim? And tighten it to, what, just finger (loose) tight?

Sounds very interesting and I ALWAYS prefer glass over plastic.

    Thanks!

  • There is a video where she demonstrates...I think you just search "vacuum seal." Yes, these are the canning jars with the typical lid and band, although I don't think the band is necessary. I do leave the band a little loose to allow the machine to pull as much air as possible. Then tighten once I take it out, but it's the lid that is sealed, so the band really doesn't come in to play. This is great because of course you can reuse the jars forever, making them far cheaper than bags

  • If they are any item other than raw meat, I'd say it's a great idea.

The raw meat, even thawing a little risks bacteria being sealed into it again and again. All other items should be fine and thus a money saver.

Thank you for your kind encouraging words!!

  • I will have to try making my chocolate bark recipes on this! Very nice! I usually use the inside of a paper bag instead of parchment paper for making things like meringue. Great tip! Thanks!

  • Yay! I didn't even think of chocolate items when I listed our uses in that little box to the right!

We make these great no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookes (gonna have to make a video) and we use these freeby-wax papers for them too!

    Thanks for the tip/reminder!
