linux and open source PR in general really need to drop the "free" tagline. People aren't getting what it means and ms fanbois keep spouting stuff about the price tag.
It's just a bizarre quirk with the English language which has no common, distinct words between "no charge" and "freedom driven". The main point of open source is that it's freedom-driven. The no-charge thing is just a secondary consequence and was never the reason for the creation of open source.
@xyzoneon Ordinary users don't care about "freedom driven". People should know that its free (it is free, no one forces you to buy non free one), no virus, fast, cool looking...
I agree with merkur32123 - as long as OS X only works on Macs, there's hardly ever going to be any problems with drivers etc. So for me, Mac/OS X is basically a "I can be sure it works" system.
But still, I prefer GNU, since there I can do whatever I want and customize it the way that fits my needs.
@psaykat Um you do realize drivers are used for compatibility for devices and hard ware to be used, so the fact that it can only use hardware that the os supports and not gain additional drivers is not a good thing at all. It is infact a bigger problem, lack of support and drivers. And since when has drivers ever been a problem? they are a solution to a problem, if they do not work you are still left with the os not being able to use the hardware.
I'm a linux guy, I Really hate Windows!, But Mac is Not our enemy at all. Besides, All TRUE Mac and Linux users want the same thing: TO DESTROY WINDOWS!!!!
@merkur32123 Apple makes there money by building a locked down OS that only works on their hardware the only open part of OS X is the BSD part, Microsoft is at least a little more flexible and allows there OS to run on any hardware, that DOES NOT change the fact that Windows is still $200, close, not stable or secure at all, its weird in the computer world the less you pay the better you get :)
@shady4tv I am not telling that you can install MacOS on a Non-Apple comp, i am telling that you can't install Windows on a non-i386 or non-amd64 comp. This points at what you said 'Microsoft is at least a little more flexible and allows there OS to run on any hardware'. BTW there are plenty reasons why to own a mac! For example: Being able to use FinalCut, Playing Portal and FT2, etc.
@merkur32123 OKAY yes not ANY hardware but certainly more than apple supports plus there are plenty of reasons to own a Windows, almost all the applications that you can get on a mac you can get on windows (thats why windows will always own the desktop market), if you don't like being locked down by software why would you like being locked down by hardware?
@shady4tv That's why i use Debian Testing Linux on my main computer. I also have a MacBook. And you can't get FinalCut on Windows! And that you can't install MacOS on other computer is good i think, so it can't have any contability issues with it's own hardware.
@merkur32123 still the enemy is closed software in general not just Microsoft and Apples Mac OS is a classic example of this, thus Apple is proprietary enemy
@elarquer0 Isn't true!! fake totally!!! They are sooooo many linux; one to each kind of likes. There are a easy to use too(Linuxmint, Mandriva, Opensuse, PCLinuxOS, Knoppix)... but if you don't like the new you are lost; no one born knowing, all need of practice to get the wisdom!!!!
@Uvthenfuv Another linux user here. The os is good and video is good. Its easy to explain if you think about windows people. They are not driven by intelligence or own thinking, but for psycho-commercials and abc-like ads. Hence this ad is awesome, puts everything easily together as abc. Now I know this isnt informative for somebody like you and me, but hey, do we need linux ads at all? :)
Linux is good, but this video sucks

I choose Linux because the mascot is a penguin.
Windows has a waved window and Mac has a bitten apple with a giant glossy X behind it.
