    Customer Reviews:

I ordered one of these in January and received it at the end of April. It was definitely worth the wait. I love this guitar. If you are a Les Paul guy like me, this guitar will feel very familiar. The finish is beautiful with the caramel binding against the black. The factory set up was very nice although I had to lower the action ...

  • @mcflopper He's playing the Korean version in this; he says it in the video, and he answered someone else saying that it was the Korean version

  • I see where Andertons sells both the USA built and the Korean built JTV59. So which one is in the video? I find it hard to beleive that a mass produced Korean built guitar is the best guitar you've played at Andertons! I could understand a US built JTV59 coming out of James Tyler custom as being that good, but that guitar sells for almost $5k here in the US. So, which one is in the video?

  • Chappers, is this still the nicest guitar you have played? I was thinking of getting the 59 but now im leaning to the 89 because the way you have to access the different pickup configurations for different models. do you find this a problem when trying to switch on the fly?

  • @Earth Suburb That headstock has been the Regular headstock on Tylers for 20 years and is associated with $10000+ guitars

  • The Variax is really a great guitar. BUT ...

They've got to come up with something else for the headstock of the JTV-69 (the strat-style one).

MAN ! The headstock just look CHEAP.

I don't know ... maybe paint it in black with some binding, OR JUST ANOTHER SHAPE.

It looks just like a 100$ Stagg or whatsoever headstock (I mean, I have nothing against cheap instruments ... kids must have tools that suit to their pocket money).

Change that ugly headstock !!! And I buy one in black. PROMISED.

  • would be great if you would do the L6 trifecta hd pod + dt50 + jtv

  • lol i think it sounds like shit!

  • Hi guys,

Thanks for the video... However, you keep writing on each video the JTV59 (non-US) is listed at Andertons for £799, but on the website it says £879...

Also, the Cherry Sunburst looks way darker on pictures than video... Is there a way to have a quick video on the current shipping model?

    Thanks,

    Phil

  • Rob...tell the guys at Andertons to give you a Tokai to play, then tell me the Variax is the best guitar in the shop. :)

  • I want to buy this guitare but I have some questions : Do you just need a standard jack to use this guitar and all his fonctions? And does this guitar works on any amp ? thanks

  • @BlindSummit197 And is the korean model as good as the us model ?

  • @BlindSummit197 - You can use either a standard jack or you can use the line 6 chord which plugs into a pod or vetta. the standard jack will then use the battery to access all the models, but you don't need the battery to just play through the pickups. the line 6 chord that plugs into the pod also powers the guitar so you are not using the battery. Yes it works on any amp as well

    Michael

  • @dleahcimfrost Thank you !

  • ohhh hurts my ear. Terribele tone.

  • I CAN"T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AND -it's really nice to see someone demoing the guitar that has really excellent performance chops.

I disagree politely with your remarks about the soon to be "old" Electric Variax Model 700 I have 2 of & have grown to love & rely 100% on the guitar, the tech, PLUS using it with a Vetta Combo both live & in the studio. This is not a negative remark about the new JTVs - just my personal opinion.

Why do you have one of these guitars while I'm a Beta tester for the JTVs & have nothing yet??

  • OH NO!!!!! - If it brings me DOMINOES crap PIZZA - I'll cancel my order for the very same model and finish you are demoing in this set of video clips!!!

Seriously from here...I think it is TERRIFIC to see a REAL retail music store with at least two people working there who truly know what they are talking about. BRAVO!!

Sadly here in the USA, stores like your are not quite this good on many levels. I hope other USA stores find these vids you guys did regarding the JTV guitar line & learn.

  • do you never use the tone control on your guitars? :D I thought I heard you say that...

  • is this really he best guitar you've erev played?

  • Reminded me of Brian May tone-wise.

  • Wow this sounds amazing wich brings up the question will you be demoing the others (69/89)? or the us models? anyway keep it up monkey lord cheers

  • Do you know how to play without distortion or overdrive in the best case..., we are trying to listeng how the guitar sounds, to hear if in fact the solve the palm muting piezo varines, old variax can alreay sound that way that amount of drive.

  • hey chap:D Great video as always, could you tell me what the tune played during the intro (the years, the pictures) is? It sounds great and I'd love to learn it..

  • Rather dissapointing tone, seemed like a noisy setup too. I don't think I'll consider buying this guitar.

  • @mitchwolfs the guitar is 100% noisefree, or so my 600 model is

  • lmao at the line6 rep's reaction to the random pizza comment

  • Will all £799 JTV's have that nice actionheight adjusted from factory? I swore to never touch line6 again after their arrogance regarding not getting win7 drivers for workbench (there still is none..). Also, maybe better i ask on this page instead of the 5th part - is this the korean version (£799 comes up in your video as advertise frequently) or the 2.5xcost US you're demoing?

Im glad they aknwoledge the ploink from the piezos now (when most old models are sold out). That said - i want one :d

  • @vileguile I am demoing the Korean version ;-)

  • @RobChappers Oh my :D .. All is forgiven L6 .. grr

For the next JTV review , please mention how the 3-switch works compared to the 5-switch. After some googling i found that you press the toneknob and the switch goes from 1-3-5 to 2-3-4. Just to spare some other people the headache :)

Thanks for your reply, sorry about my early morning paranoia %)

  • @vileguile Yes, the Korean JTV's will be set-up to James Tyler's own specs right in our UK warehouse. They have a crack team of killer techs who will be setting them up. Also, those same techs had a big part in influencing where this guitar has landed.

  • @vileguile The ploink wasn't mentioned much because no one was sure what was causing it. The reason we are mentioning it loud and proud now is because we figured it out and we, for all intents and purposes, eliminated it. It is a sound that is generated by all piezo bridges, even on acoustic guitars. I have a blog about it at the Tyler Variax website.

  • magnetic pickups would definitely help. :D

  • I KNOW FRED!!!!!!!!! ...i replaced him as guitarist for superbug....

  • theres more wood to it. thats what she said.

  • DIMEBAG DARRELL FOR UNDER 1000.

  • @TheOmerta94

    humbucker guitar

    High gain solid state amp

    settings 10-0-10 :) their ya go :)

  • @LokiAashraya what the hell are you talking about? no mids? you woudlnt be able to hear shit if you played with a band

  • @rickyjshiznit

... i hate people who dont listen to who i was responding to and than reply to me.

I WAS RESPONDING TO A PERSON WHO SAID "DIMEBAG TONE FOR UNDER 1000$"

As he is quite well known for have a very harsh scooped mids tone :).

    Sorry for the misunderstanding

  • @LokiAashraya i know that i saw his post. if you take out the mids it sounds like shit when your playing with bass and drums. the bass completely overpowers the guitar.

  • @rickyjshiznit

yea i know you guitar will get lost in the drums and bass. I play in a band so i get what you are saying. The guitar is also a mids instrument..., but like it or not dimebag scooped his mids. He used high gain solid state stacks through out most of his career and he scooped his mids that is the reason i said 10-0-10.

My amp is set at 5-10-8. I love mids. Although i do admit when i was a beginner i thought scooped mids was the shit!

  • @LokiAashraya lol i was the same way, i remember having a 10w crate amp that sounded terrible that i always had like 3-0-10... for some reason i didnt like bass either lol

  • @rickyjshiznit

hahaha how weird i had a 15 watt crate and i always had 5-0-10. It sounded so brutal at the time.

  • @LokiAashraya lol looking back it sounded terrible, although all i could play was symphony of destruction and smoke on the water. lol i didnt know about wattage and what not so i blew mine trying to power some big ass tv speakers with it

  • @rickyjshiznit lol that sucks :P

i still do it occasionally at home just for the hell of it. :P

  • @LokiAashraya Dude, it's not about the numbers, it's about the sound. I hate when people ask how to sound this or that and then someone responds with a series of random numbers. I know, that set-up sounds great to you, but I'd say more highs than lows and mids cranked up. Not bitching up, just a preference. Since some people take those numbers wayyy too seriously.

  • @L4stCaress

wait i'm confused are you agreeing about more mids or saying you dont like mids?

P.S i 'm not saying you HAVE to play on that setting, Although i agree i should have just said scooped setting rather than 10-0-10. Also amps are also very different. say a Mark IV, 6505, and a JSX they are both very mids heavy so if you have a 5-2-8 setting even though you mids seem scooped it may sound mids heavy. But if you had a Mesa boogie rectifier its very bass heavy.

  • @L4stCaress

also if you are saying i dont like mids i've already been through this.

for the last time I WAS REFERING TO DIMEBAG'S TONE not mine. (also i was exgaggerating a bit about 10-010.)

  • @LokiAashraya No man, I love the mids too. Just not too keen on pointing up pure numbers, there are so many factors making the tone different that no number can tell what which set-up sounds. Besides, his tone wasn't just numbers 10 and 0. The band, pedals, the FINGERS etc. etc. The list goes on.

  • @L4stCaress

lol i know. I or anyone infact is going to explain every detail about someones rig on you youtube comment. Dimebags rig was pretty simple. Its not as if he was in radiohead or RHCP or something. I agree that 10-0-10 is a bit misleading, but to sum up his tone its pretty much "high gain & scooped mids"

  • @LokiAashraya Cheers \../

  • @TheOmerta94

    \m/ :P

    cheers for what? =-O

  • Comment removed

  • 5:42 = best lick ever :P

  • joe satch for under a grand

  • @MattPurkis iganore me . i have seen the vid

  • Sound like Paul Gilbert for under 1000

  • wow that is one fat guitar.. @RobChappers how heavy is that guitar and how fat is the neck? that like like it would weigh a couple hundred pounds ..

  • idk, maybe it's jsut me, but i didn't think it sounded that great. i t didn't really have any balls. maybe it was the way it was EQ'd.

  • @Jimihendrix6699 I think the way it is on this video lacks midranges; that sweet warmth you get from a les paul...

  • @Jimihendrix6699 its the amp coloring the tone some

  • @Jimihendrix6699 You will have to get out there and try one to know. The guitar is not producing the tone of the amp, it is just a model of a guitar. You have to play it through gear you know.

We are going to have sound samples

  • @VariaxGuitars yea, i mean none of the models they switched through had any "balls" when chappers demos guitars on his videos, they usually have a full sound. the tone on this video kind of sounded frail. i mean there are some really cool features on this guitar, but if most of rob's other videos have tons of body and "balls" and this doesn't then it's a good indicator of how the guitar sounds. i'd still love to try one though.

  • @Jimihendrix6699 For sure, I can't help you with how Rob had the amp set. He is playing many different models, like teles and strats. Also, did you hear him say that he was backing off of the gain on the amp so you can hear more of the tone of the guitar?

Also, in case you guys are wondering, you can use Workbench to stack two humbuckers on top of each other and change the volume capacitors and stuff to get an over the top midrange bump and anything in between.

  • @VariaxGuitars yea, but i seemed to me like it was missing some bass. maybe that's just how Lee like to set his shit up though cuz rob said lee set the amp up. oh well, everyne has their preference.

  • @Jimihendrix6699 Yup, well said.

  • @Jimihendrix6699 This guy might have more the sound you were looking for in his review. Search "James Tyler Variax Guitar Demo" and hes the bloke who looks like chris martin. xx

  • Most the people who make musical instruments demos use the worst cheapest recording tools ... It looks like they all want to talk about quality, but they don't want to invest in a couple of real good recording devices. For the guys who watch these demos, the video quality isn't important (although ... it's better with a nice video quality), BUT, the sound quality of the recording is what really counts.

Equipment ... let's see : any Camcoder + SONY PCM-D50, would be JUST FINE !!!

  • the best ...EVER? seriously?

  • Dimebag, Vai, Yngwie or George Lynch for "sound like_____for under a £1000" would be awesome!

  • @666jony666 Dimebag - Get solid state Crate, put on Death Metal distortion + EQ, play.

  • He says "ehhh" a lot

  • You truly look like a little kid at Christmas in this vid....

  • I'm also totally for sounding like MegaDave for under £1000 :D

  • I'm completely shocked at the tone coming from the line 6 with it's stock pickup, in less than a decade they have come a very long way, looking forward to hearing said technical wizardry

  • Andy timmonds tone for under a grand that would be a real challenge!

  • @MyIronLung92 Chapman ML1, pimped with DiMarzio Andy Timmons HB and 2 Cruisers plus any tube amp should do the trick :) plus the right fingers of course

  • Its more woody! THERES MORE WOOD TO IT! hahaha!

  • John Petrucci for under a grand. I don't that's even possible. I mean his signature guitar is over a grand but i guess you could use the OLP model. But for an amp i wouldnt know, cus as far as im aware he's only used Mesa Boogie.

  • @IguanaKebab69 i got his OLP guitar, let me tell you, it's crap. it's sooo muddy, sounds nothing like the EB or the Sterling by MM.

  • @DennChooch ouch. sorry to hear that dude. Im a Musicman Bongo player myself and i wouldn't trade that for the world.

  • Do a Jimi Hendrix sound under 1000 item, now THATS actually a challange.

  • @guitaregh Squier classic vibe strat --> fuzz pedal --> marshall class 5

  • @guitaregh Sound like jimi would cos an arm, a leg, your soul, and about 25 grands worth of weed

  • @guitaregh 1) matches

    2) lighter fluid

    3) strat

  • completely random comment: you should do a sound like dave mustaine for under £1000 :D

  • @hug0areias that would be epic

  • @hug0areias That is not a bad idea actually ;p

  • @hug0areias

Agree to this completely. I was just thinking that. Please do it!
