Hey Shauncougar, any chance of you posting this whole album, one of his best, love the song, TONIGHT, peppermint twist, ect, great album, thanks for the post
Sounds like a timeless classic that nobody ever heard...kinda got a Frankie Vallie ring to it or Elvin Bishop. Anyone who reads this has no idea what I mean.
some times good people say bad things....best song he might have ever did and he dissed because of whatever bad feelings vs record company ..get over it got you where you r,,,you r a kid with nothing without it at the time got ur name back awesome but quit dissing ur early songs because ud be shit nothing with out them..count ur blessing no matter how the come to u
Oh my god... I have been listening to this song and loving it for 5+ years now.. And I had no idea that this video existed until today... And it's completely awesome! XD
@thisux7x7 Yah, but no one in 1980 could have predicted the success of Mellencamp a couple years later. His talent didn't even really come thru on record till American fool or Uh-huh....Scarecrow and Lonesome Jubilee.....He put out 4 albums in a row that was his peak.
@themooddisorders My comment does not actually match your response. I said it was one of the greatest Rock Tunes from the era. It does not matter how successful he became later on, this song ( and many others by other artists) represent a period of time when Rock was becoming mainstream Popular American Music.. This is one of those great melodies, and it would have still been that way regardless of the Cougar, Mellencamp, Legacy to Pop Pock..
Kind of disagree- he had some earlier , rougher edged stuff before he popped out with Uh-huh, and American Fool, which in retrospect wasn't really all that commercial, it just sold a lot. I think the writing was on the wall for Mellencamp from the start, he was destined to be more than a huey lewis (no offense to huey) and that's what followed- Scarecrow, Lonesome Jubilee, Big Daddy, Whenever we wanted, and Human Wheels. Scarecrow could be his best, but arguably he peaked w/ Human Wheels
Right been listenin' to this old tune... This time I really feel I'm in love, I'm in love... This time I know for sure how I'm in love.... I'm in love (I meant I quite apreciate U)... This time... This is our time!!
Hope John has wisely quit smokin' by now. Doesn't he know that he's puttin' poison in his body with every cigarette he smokes? Hit #27 in Billboard. God bless!
This is one of my favorites, too. I've been to 3 of his concerts and he has never performed it. Listening to it now because my granddaughter was looking for it!
One of JCM's least played hits, but definitly my favorite. I was watching a TV commercial and saw his wife and it made me think of this song. Thank heavens for YouTube and shaunocouger for the great post.
I think hes ashamed of it or something like that.I remember when i bought it and looked at the cover and thought this is a dude a guy ;now i look at and say thats a kid;yes getting older these days.
When my husband and I got married 10/27/88 this was our favorite cassett. Nothing matters and wht if it did. I saw him in concert when I was 9 or 10 years old in Jacksonville Fla..
The Lyric in this song at 3:08: "I Hope you didn't lose that innocent laughter. Hope time didn't take that away." The same lyric is also in his song "To M.G (Wherever She May Be)" from the same album: "Hope you didn't lose that innocent laughter. Oh God, hope time didn't take that away." I always thought that was strange he'd use the same lyric in 2 songs. He rocks though, we've seen him in 7 different states and got back stage passes last time - got to meet the band but not John himself.
The "hot" women is edith massey, made famous by John Waters (director) she was amazing in everything she did, the movie "polyester" and "Desperate Living" are among my favorites
Laughing love the way John moves and looks here..gotta love that women{ohh man--yea beauty is skin deep, right Elaine}? This vid brings me back to what 19...love it!
That's awesome...I've never seen that video before! Never knew it existed. That's probably my favorite John Cougar song. Saw him in Grand Forks, ND in 1982 and still stands as my favorite concert. Thanks for posting.

Mellencamp has always hated this song. When he did play it in the early 80's he sped it up, almost unrecognizable, to this version.
