  • Bernard told Humphrey.

  • The current head of the civil service, Sir Augustine Thomas O'Donnell, GCB, or "Gus O'Donnell" signs his notes with his initials: G.O.D. Apparently.

  • We need a vote of confidence XD

  • I was bored and typed in yes

  • brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is amazing. I wish I was around when it was on TV.

  • @harlequin2262 You can buy all the series in a whole set for about 30-50£ i think from amazon or somthing :)

  • awesome!!!

  • I love british humor.

  • I think ones inside knowledge and experience is a must for becoming a great writer and this show is perfect example of that. details boy lesson 1...

  • People who like this show should check out an Australian series called 'The Hollowmen'.

  • ll llll

    LOMLIVEBARD

  • I'm 18 years old, and after watching friends, everybody loves raymond and scrubs, i think they're good shows. But watching this for the first time makes me realise that this simple, sophisticated, witty, intelligent and superbly acted comedy blows anything the americans have ever produced out of the water. well, thats my humble opinion anyway :)

  • @05batpod You are a very perseptive 18-year-old.

  • @05batpod

You have a free thinking high level intellect for 18, feed it good stuff that stimulates creativity and original thought.

All power to you you're nobody's fool.

    :-)

  • Yes Minister -> The New Statesman -> In The Thick of It

  • @dasgdasg I agree. Thick of It was good, but it's bit too much about scandal and politics and has jokes like 'Minister Denies Allegations of Racism' and ministers making gaffs. YM does a bit of that too but it mainly focuses on government, not politics. So it addreses education, defence, unemployment etc. Harder, but more rewarding laughs.

    Yes Minister FTW!

(New Statesmen was also funny, :-) )

  • @dasgdasg What the hell?

    Did I really say this?

What the hell was I thinking?

  • proof that you don't need crudity to be funny. Just great scripts and great actors

  • As always, Bernard's answer makes perfect sense. He can't betray Humphrey to the minister, if only because it will lead the minister to think that if he can betray Humphrey then he can also betray the minister.

For all that I love Yes Minister, I should point out that The Thick Of It is its true successor. It is as ruthlessly accurate about modern UK government as YM was about government 40-50 years ago. It's the governing process that has deteriorated, not the comedy.

  • The verbose Brit. LOL. I am terse.

  • Why won't BBCWorldwide videos work for me!? :(

  • what country r u in ?

  • Let me make one thing clear, Humphrey is not God, OK?

Will you tell him or shall I? XD

  • flying8

    I believe you're right.

Heck, long ago when I worked in radio we couldn't even say "damn" on the air. Had to work a little to entertain, infom and amuse.

In the really old days you couldn't even hint at bad language. But today so many go for the easy cheap titter.

  • I think that this tv show it will be always modern. Because it speaks about politics and politicans and some of these situations despise the humour have a hint of truth.

  • Best comedy series EVER made in the history of Television. Hands down!!!!

  • Absolutely! It is a thinking person's programme-- isn't that a revolutionary idea?

  • @tinglywoowoo With a witty political agenda, none the less!

  • yes minister and yes prime minister the best ever. never see anything even close to that funny or that good on our (USA) TV. Faulty Towers another fav.

So, how come we don't see this kind of writing anymore, not even in the UK.

  • some of it might be Political Correctness, another reason could be that writers dont have imagination to come up with such material

  • Times have changed from the 1980s. There are not many people who will appreciate this kind of humor anymore. The writers of these two series were really brilliant.

  • Times might have changed, but politics haven't! :)

  • There are tons of political satires about!

Not sure 'political correctness' has much to do with it :o)

  • Try watching "The Thick Of It", if you're after wit, observation and political machination.

  • Further proof of entropy in society. We are hiring "dumb" people disguising as "intelligent or creative" in organizations and the truly creative or intelligent are viewed as either non-conformists, radical or just mad. Today people prefer foul language and being direct and brash with the irony of obsession with stamping down dissent and paranoia by censoring wit and contemplation. Just not funny and fun anymore.

  • the best comedy I've ever seen... I can watch it over and over again and it's still funny

  • pure dynamite.the writers are in a league of their own
