@Linkaara Blue Oyster Cult was a really strange band, they were entirely put together by Sandy Pearlman who founded them and produced all of their albums. It was based on a poem that he wrote. The Four Winds Bar is a real bar, but the rest is apparently about superhumans living among the stars. The light that never warms is supposed to be the moon, and his god is the constellation cerberus. If you look it up, there has been a ton written about it.

I have to go with the Imaginos version.  More powerful, more intense. I mean the way it builds at the beginning......it's dangerous to play that song when you're driving. Your foot just wants to hammer that gas pedal all the way to the floor. I prefer the guitar in that version, too. I consider this the "unplugged" version.

In the last two Metallica albums, he's totally over-used the wah effect and I disagree that it compliments what he was playing on those albums. Before them, he didn't drown his sound in it. I think the VH example is a bit off, tapping is a technique, wah is an effect. I appreciate you being civil though :)

Both Metallica and Blue Oyster Cult are brilliant, word-class bands in their own right - you can't compare them both. Metallica covered this song because they felt that BOC inspired them and wanted to show respect. The cover will never be as good as the original is, but it is still an amazing song - they did well on it, changing it to suit them as a band but retaining enough of the original to praise BOC.
