  • it's basically half of a toroidal drive

  • As a genius I have a simple, inexpensive design that I invented in "cullage". Success has NOTHING to do with ability ...

  • The biggest problem I see is the life of that rubbing wheel, if it's made of silicon or something maybe, but rubber would break up far too easily for a reliable transmission. The solution, proper lubrication would sacrifice traction. However, having illustrated the concept very well, is it possible to just use gears?

  • Where is the gear reduction?

  • That universal joint will make this a very jerky transmission.

  • @eltotoX could use a CV joint

  • Power loss on universial joint maybe too large and rotation speed of output shaft is not even caused by angle of the joint. You may find a coupler for power transmission, but I guess your design is not suitable for high torque transmission...

  • not a bad one. anyways good to know something rather than nothin...

  • I don't know what a CVT is, but you should have done something differently. I am not serious. Just angry that people, who don't understand what I am doing, flamed my idea. It looks like you work hard and take this seriously. I asked people for advice but got opinions instead. Even after apologizing for my typing skills. Be patient and prepared for ignorance. You are looking for the 10% who 'get it".

Thank you for teaching us about CVTs.

  • Brilliant, truely brilliant.. In fact so clever that Henry Ford used the system on the Early Model T.

Leather and Cork will work apparently.

But keep trying, i might warn you though, the odds of inventing something revolutionary or overlooked is slimm to nill, at best.

  • @renyou455555

    google search the "D drive"

fully gear based constant mesh cvt.

just invented recently in australia ^^ still in development stage but has working prototype

  • this method is better than using belt. i dont think belt is tough enough.

  • @lembah18

a belts as tough as you want it to be, thats why they make metal ones for cvts where high power transfer is required

  • Ah! Clever! Me like! Had to see it a few times to understand it but now I see the idea

  • This concept won't work. This shaft with the ball head must be connected with some Cardan or elastic joint. Cardan cannot transfer motion at that angles. And even in lower ones it introduces pulsation in the output shaft. Elastic one will be unreliable.

  • Interesting, but similar design already exists, check out Nissan's toroidal CVTs.

  • Damn! I was working on a very similar design...looks like yo beat me too it. check out the MyoTransmission...same principle too

  • nice but...what materials can stand this kind of force, like at the point where the shifter part (I think thats what it is) meets. I dont think a regular U joint would work there.

  • BRILLIANT I LOVE IT. good idea man seriously

  • It's not ment to explain CVTs. it's ment to convey a new concept for a cvt.

i can give you a new concept for a DVD format.... but if you don't understand what DVD disks are then you shouldn't be looking at new concepts for them.

  • It doesn't explain cvt at all!

  • watch?v=trJ09GSKv1g&feature=related

  • Very interesting. Thank you.

  • I saw that the old cars (model 20 or 30) works with a similar system...very interesting

  • bad explain CVT

  • probably because it is already graphically explained

  • i can show you a conceptual design for a circut board..... but if you want to learn WHAT a circut board is then you have to go to college. if you already know what they are, then you'll understand the schematical drawing of a new concept for one.
