  • You played this on a toploader... Once you see those lines, you can't unsee them.

  • The original front loader was made to get away from top loading systems, you know most systems in the crash were top loaders, but the front loader wasn't as durable because of the push mechanism. Most top loaders still work well from my understanding

  • hi, im 14. i have a wii and it sucks. my dream for 4 years has been to one day own an nes. i have an nes, snes, n64, and sega genesis emulator on my computer, and i love the games so much better than the ones on my wii. im trying to get the retrobit-retroduo portable for my birthday: the portable nes, snes, and genesis.

  • @gogiants123 While I don't necissarily think the wii sucks I completely support your desire to get into retro games! =D If I may make a suggestion, you may want to look into that clone portable. They are tempting and may work for your needs just fine but do a little research first. Some of them, especially the genesis fire-core based ones, won't let you save your game on those games that support it (like Zelda). They are also about the same price as original hardware these days.

  • I Went To A Store And They Wanted 30 Dollars For This Game.

  • @RunesDoesSteam i went to disc replay and it was 2 bucks, it included duck hunt

  • Inspired by Atari? On par with Pac Man? I had a Spectrum. Loads of games by independents for £1.99 Including the Ultimate Play The Game (RARE) Classics like Attic Attac, Firelord, Jetpac,Uridium. fantastic stuff! Atari was all just green an purple blobs shooting at each other!

  • my xbox is in repair so my nes is my console right now. super awesome

  • @InecomCompany The guys in shells are not turtles they're Koopa Troopas

  • @seangreag Tortoise! Turtles Have flippers and swim! Tortoise walk! If a Tortoise finds god and becomes an evangelist, It's still a Tortoise! Brown shell, green or green with wings, if you see a tortoise with Jaundice more than likely it has been brainwashed into being a Koopa Trooper and it won't come back to life 38 seconds after you jump on it!

  • @seangreag Who happen to be turtles.

  • really well made review

  • Only in America did the video game crash have major effects. Here in Europe we weren't really that effected by it, because gamers here mainly gamed on PCs not consoles like in America, so we were isolated from it.

PS. But I wish people would be more specific when thet reference the AMERICAN video game crash, because at the time it didn't end video games at all, outside of the US gaming was going strong.

  • @RemorselessRogue I never thought about that, to be honest. From now on I will refer to it as the "North American" Video Game crash....

  • 7:50 if that have happend to me i would have been grounded so bad for what i would do (it happend before).

  • Never was a mario fan. Have been gaming since 1994 (I was 3 years old at that time, LOL), started with NES, jumped to the PC in 1997. And I still remember that feel of seeing DooM for the first time, and giving away nintendo on the next day. To me, nintendo games have always been kiddy, happy-go-lucky and boring.

  • After all these years, I still remember where hidden stuff is.

  • Call me a hater, but I can't stand when I see people play any 2-d mario games walking and all that my finger is on the run button constantly, I feel like there noobs lol, how do I guys feel?

  • my mario bros. is the single cart version

  • I was so tense watching this video

  • You know what is funny, is that since this was the first game ive ever played when my parent bought me a NES; going to world 3 and watching the black background i thought the black background was the coolest thing ever, never payed any atari games b4 this one, while it was standard for you guys growing up with the black backscreen.

  • It feels not like an avgn rip-off

  • FFVII = overrated...

  • "'I was more likely to get some back then" lol

  • Just got Metroid and Mario/Duck Hunt yesterday... still no NES....help.

  • I'm almost 30 and still playing this game every now and then.

  • Mine came with Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Track & Field and the mat for Track & Field.

  • My 25 year old NES is still alive and kicking. All original too, no replacement parts. Almost every game works on the first shot. Kinda funny how 360s and PS3s nowadays have a bad rep for breaking and my NES just keeps going and going and going...

  • @someguy74656 goes for me too, My NES is about the same age.. a bit more discoloured, perhaps. But still working

  • @someguy74656 NES had no moving parts...technology advanced. its not like companies are intentionally making there products break.

  • @someguy74656 These old consoles were built like tanks - you could accidently let them fall from a considerable height and it won't even have a dent on it. Whilst new consoles would part in a million pieces and cost half the price of the console to repair it.

  • @someguy74656 sweet same with my n64 when i was about 5 in 1999 with mario kart 64 still works =D

  • @someguy74656 The menace of moving parts, All disc and hard drive based systems will die long before a well maintained cartridge system.

  • @someguy74656 Its made by nintendo. i had a gba cartridge that got smashed with a hammer, ran over twice, and thrown on the ground. It still worked

  • 5:28 Fuuuuuck...

  • Comment removed

  • I would imagine kids at my school talking about this rather in 1985 or if the NES is still made. Like for an Example:

"Dude! I would totally die for Black Ops Zombies for the NES!"

"Jesus, I LOVE my NES! I especially love Super Mario Bros."

"Hey, wanna play Black Ops on the NES at my house (Like, instead of using XBOX LIVE)"

  • 2:44 - So many cude joke possibilities.

  • @InecomCompany If you loved this game like everyone else with a soul, check out Super Mario Bros. Crossover on Newgrounds. There's also a sequel called Super Mario Bros Crossover 2.0 which is even more awesome. And they're free which is awesome, which they should be anyway since they're fan made.

  • You went in the wrong warp zone!

  • Cod<Mario

  • since i wanted to play super mario and im cheap i decided to get the retron 3 and a nes controller and i completed it 16 times last night mario ftw

  • I didn't even own an NES until 2002, believe it or not... my first game system was a Sega Master System instead, with Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Phantasy Star, etc. in 1989 :)

  • this game will never be better than cosmic carnage

  • thats dereks cheapest death ever

  • these games were hard as hell

  • how old are you

  • Can you do a review of mario bros for the nes (Not super mario bros)

  • he sometime sounds like a robot!

  • to be honest i don't really like this game that much...

i'm sure at the time it was AMAZING with 20 capital A's.....

but it doesn't stand up as well as many of it's brethren...

the controls are slippery and the enemy placement is just CHEAP...

    SMB2 (USA) all-out sucked.

Lost Levels was a bit too brutal....

but then SMB3 came out... THAT one is AWESOME..

the controls were tighter the pacing was better and it was challenging without being cheap...

from then on they were all awesome...

  • I remember being 5 and waking up early in the morning a month before I started school and playing this with my dad. Good times.

  • I'll take Super Mario Bros. and NES over COD anyday

  • @Nightyoshi12 I'd take E.T over Call of Duty anyday.

  • @TheCIScommander Lol me to

  • @Nightyoshi12 I prefer sonic but the principle is the same

  • @44automag117 I get what you mean Sonic is also pretty cool anything orignal really.

  • @Nightyoshi12 Amen

  • @Nightyoshi12 er...no

  • @Nightyoshi12 I'd take a diarrhea shit in my own underwear over COD anyday.

  • @Nightyoshi12 So would I. But I'd take quite a few other games over Mario, including several Megaman titles and Classic DOOM.

  • The First video game my sister ever played (Shes 5 now) was Super mario bros. Im proud

  • LOL AT 7:48

  • hats off

  • @DarkBit666 not wearing a hat

  • RESCUE THE PRINCCES FROM SOME MONSTER THAT LOOKS LIKE A DRAGON (BUT IS MORE LIKE A BAD-ASS TURTLE), OH YEAH... ITS MARIO BROS!. Fucking epic, and still is today... without blood or guns or whatever "modern" shit is popular... new mario games looks fresh altough is more of the same, definitely is a succesfull formula coming from a REAL VIDEOGAME COMPANY WITH REAL DEVELOPERS, this is more than just the "conquer the world and get rich" tipical Sony's mentality.

  • I wish I was your age I have all this xbox 360, ps3, wii, etc. and you get these masterpieces. Thank god for virtual console on wii!

  • I was there.

  • I grew up with Super Mario World, and Super Mario 64.

  • the game that invented the term "plumbers crack"

  • Theres always that game that makes you want a system. I just got a ps3 for infamous that games sweet but even back then there was those games

  • 3:11 Never knew Luigi wore Mario's clothes.

  • where could u buy it

  • atari 7800 was a great console

  • What's with all the awkward pauses in your speech?

  • a timeless game.

  • why is it that everytime I see a X-Box 360 game being released theres always a new "Limited Edition" seriously why may I ask?

  • @MarioBrothers120 Probably just so they can make more money by bumping the price up because the games available in a much smaller quantity than usual.

  • lol I've finished it when I was 4 :D

  • Comment removed

  • SMB bundled with NES + duck hunt + zapper + 2 controllers. That was so a great package for a cheap price. One of the best official bundle ever with the Gameboy + Tetris. Now, we got a lot of shitty official bundles.

  • Simpler times...

  • I got my NES before Super Mario Bros. was released and was quite happy with games like Gyromite, Duck Hunt, & Donkey Kong, but when Super Mario Bros. came out I knew I'd be a gamer for life!

  • @videogameobsession OMG! me too! but for me its mixed......When i heard of mario then found him in the wii I REALLY CANT BEAT IT >.<

  • thanks for using the small nes and its shitty rf modulation lmao

  • For some reason, I feel as if Mark's voice would be good for a spongebob character. I have no clue why I think that.

  • @EnglishTurtle ...beavis and butthead

  • *I have played it a lot

  • I just got a Retron 3, and this is the game I've played the most so far. Although, the only other games I have are Pinball (NES), Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (SNES), Ka-Blooey (SNES), and Ms. Pac Man (SNES).

  • ahhh...... I remember it so clearly, Three years ago I randomly decided I wanted to try an Older system so I jumped on Craigslist and found a reasonably Priced NES in the box, with Four games(tecmo bowl, TMNT, metal gear, and of course mario/duck hunt). I knew that the first game that had to be played was mario and hearing the music, seeing the graphics and using the controller that seemed so odd and simple was amazing! I feel sad for the people who wonder why I Don't want a PS3 Or Xbox.

  • @thecomedymaker awesome story, dude, happy you loved thoses games they are still great (simple but great).

  • @thecomedymaker we hear u. best music ever,

  • I confess that I never beat this game. Could hardly get past the third level. Crap man. These games were legend at the time.

  • No offense, but your dialogue almost sounded like you were in a coma, or reading it aloud. Also, your gameplay as Luigi doesn't totally suck - I've seen (and played) worse.

I was 6 when this came out, but I first played it at age 9. I remember getting so mad back then, wanting to throw things when I lost a life. Now, I can do a complete run-through in about 45 minutes, give or take a few.

  • i got this game for my wii so i got it today yea

  • You know, Nintendo has always been my favorite game company since childhood. I'll go for their games anytime!

  • sad that theres some people that NEVER BEAT THIS GAME! i was like 7 years old when i beat it...took me 6 months LMAO!

  • @evildead818 Well I never had anNES so yeah

  • I Play this game every day. I Simply adore this.

  • I enjoyed the review, and I had to laugh when you held back from mentioning Cosmic Carnage. I loved that review.

  • damn i shouldn't have bought a sega genesis.I like old school mario games better than old school sonic my opinion,And you know whats really funny i got my sega genisis from wal-greens thats really weird.

  • better graphics then HALO and COD BF games

  • If your NES breaks it's usually just the pin connector. Replace that sucker and you should be good to go.

  • Did anyone notice? at the end of a stage you jump and bring down a flag...and did anyone notice that, THAT FLAG has a PEACE SIGN ON IT!? you jump and bring it down!!

  • @Manan991 yep i haven't notice, I check

  • @Manan991 Looks like a skull to me...

  • @Manan991 Never thought about it until you mention it,Mario hates hippies! Now i respect him more! :-)

  • i love the 16-bit sounds of this game :)

  • I'm 12 and I love this game and more classic games better than modern games plus super Mario bros for the nes was my first game I ever played when I was 4

  • @legendofmario64 you had a NES in 2003?

  • @epicsmurfyzz i got it as a gift

  • @legendofmario64 me too man but i was 5.

  • @legendofmario64 There was an amazing video game console that came out around the same year you were born! The Sega Dreamcast! I grew up with the NES,Sega Genesis, and the Dreamcast...I recommend people to Buy A ps1, Sega Dreamcast, Gamecube,NES-SNES N64, and Sega Genesis...for the best RETRO games! Don't buy a ps2 though My ps2 collects dust while I play My Dreamcast all day, go figure the system that PUT sega out of the hardware business, the dvd player is all it's worth!

  • @legendofmario64 :D my first video game was Mario World for GBA

  • @legendofmario64 same here

  • @legendofmario64 this and contra (have you ever heard of that game) was the first game i played on the new but contra came first

  • @legendofmario64 THANK YOU! Someone else who gets it

  • @legendofmario64 you have way cool parents for introducing you to old school games like this. Also did you play on the actual console?

  • @ELRaGEDaT right,

  • He said consumers had lost interest in video games. I didn't lose interest. I was still buying games back then. You could get 2600 carts for 50 cents each! I was so happy. When I saw the NES I was blown away. Putting the cartridge in was something exciting (because it was so different but it made the system break) The NES was one of the greatest video game systems ever!

  • I could only beat Super Mario Bros. 2. For the NES. I miss wart and his dream world... very trippy and great!

  • I love Mario!!!!!!!!!. Ive played Mario games & watched Mario cartoons my whole life!!! Mario FTW!!!!!!!

  • only for nes my ass if you count emulators iphone,pc,psp

  • This is probably your best review and not just because of Super Mario Brothers

  • dude your pro at super mario bros.

  • I see. Mark was a Sega kid and Derek was a Nintendo kid.

  • No footage of the final battle with Bowser that last one second where you just ignore him and jump to the finish finally rescuing the princess?????

You would think that would be a no brainer by now for an ending, instead of the anti climatic world 8-1 in this review.

  • @InecomCompany what do you use to capture your game video?

  • Make a new game console!

  • everyone had Mario/Duck hunt

  • Is this an Atari review? ..haha

  • I grew up in the era of the 64, so I never had the chance to play the nes. I'm a nintendo fanboy nonetheless.

  • ive never completed this game, ever

im a decade and a half years old and ive yet to rescue the princess in this game

  • @MBlueFlame the 1st time i completed it 5 minutes later, my NINTENDO overheated and died

  • 2:44 ftw.

  • nintendo is shit because it was the only console at that time and peopele hadn't choice and now they have the fcking nostalgia from this fcking nintendo shit

  • @MaGistR4eVeR It was the only console at that time? Really? That was a time that had the highest number of consoles out at the same time. Atari 2600/5200/7800 Sega Master System, Colecovision, Intellivsion, it goes on...

People had choice, and they chose the Nintendo. It's now that there are only really 3 choices, back then there were so many.

  • @MaGistR4eVeR Are you like dumb?

  • Bah my NES is as old Kurt Cobain.

  • All hail Mario! He the king of 2-D and 3-D games. (Sorry not Lord Karnege or Sonic.)

  • gotta finish this game one day

  • @TheDamned999 im one of the lucky few who beat it. i was 3 when i got my first taste in the 80s.

  • Classic Game Room is the best video game review hub on the planet.

Mark Bussler is the Video Game Review President.

  • 5:30 is epic fail of epic proportions....lol

    Great review.

  • Super Mario Bros. and Galaga for NES are the games that got me into gaming forever.

  • Do you guys ever get the Wii Virtual Console versions of these games?

  • AT .45 you forgot the extra life b/w the two bushes.

  • Worked really hard this week, tommorow I hope to get myself a nintendo.

  • I LOVE Classic Game Room!

  • i have super mario bros 1 2 and3

  • This game saved the videogame industry from hell. Long live Mario!

  • Every time you pass up that free 1-up mushroom on world 1-1 a geek catches on fire and dies a horrible death.

  • This video barely has 400k views, yet Ben10 has 45 million?!?!?

  • I want to get a bunch of Old Consoles now that there cheap since i wasn't born back then (LOL)

  • in 3:34 he said "...Among others like Pitfall 2, Yuri's revenge..."

did he really say Yuri's Revenge or i just imagined that?

Yuri's Revenge came out in 2001 but all the rest he noted are old games.

i want to know if im right or wrong, please someone tell me.

  • @EfraimVish i think he meant Yar's Revenge, which is an old game

  • How can you be bad at this? I can beat this game in about 7 1/2 minutes and I only got hit once, in the last bowser fight

  • In world 4 thare is a goal hill W/ 2 koopa troopaz on it snage 1 in a loop of jump spaz and horde 1^Z

  • 0:33 I've done that before!

  • Comment removed

  • How are your parents, Mark?

  • If it was not for nintendo, there would probably be no gaming systems today since there was a video game crash in 1983 and people were starting to think then that video games would no longer exist...

  • i love the game.

  • "Why would I care, I got a stack of Atari 2600 games!" - I really did laugh at that.. XD

  • Funny how the games you grew up with, you have a strong affection for and keep returning to. For me it would be the NES. Although I owned an atari, I didn't really grow up on that console like I did with the NES.

    NES for life

  • i wanted this soo bad. i begged and begged. a year and a half later i got an nes basic system from my mom. and my uncle bought me pacman and t and c surf. Boy was i happy about getting the nes but pissed that i got some shitty games when all i wanted was super mario bros.

  • @delli2011 Hey, the NES version of Pac-Man wasn't bad at all. And at least your uncle didn't give you Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde :D
