nice playing. by the way i've been taking lessons with ohashi-san, he says you play well but you slide your fingers too much on the strings like southern okinawan style. lol. i know the book you're using, i have it too, i think you're maybe just exaggerating the slide places a bit too much. nice video intro to amami shamisen tho!
Hi! Thank you so much for your comment! :) I have no teacher, so I learned from watching YT videos and the book I have. And yes, I do slide my fingers too much lol. I made this video a year ago so it sounds very beginner (I run out of breath lol). I have been in contact with Mr. Ohashi via email, he is a very nice person and gave me lots of advice too :) I hope to learn more, stay in touch ^_^ Thanks as well for pointing the sliding fingers out, I will try not to do that ^^
Hi thanks for the comment! :) This is an old video so I've improved a bit now xD The Amami shamisen is a bit difficult to play in comparison to the Okinawan Sanshin because the technique is different, the middle finger is not used, and there is not official musical score for it. However, it is not impossible ^_^
@Chichiri520 what is the tuning for a shamisen? i've seen the pick, there pretty big,wel bigger than a guitar pick,i here so much emotion in the shamisen which interests me a lot,its so dramatic :) i've subed to you so i hope to here some more :)
This style uses E-A-E tuning but sometimes it can be tuned to F# or in D (D-G-D...I think). I left my textbook at home so Im familiar with the EAE tuning only. This is an Amami shamisen, which in appearance is similar to the Okinawa sanshin. The pick for the Amami shamisen is like a thin popsicle stick. The Japanese shamisen's pick is like an ice picker :)
@Chichiri520 so explain the difference between the amami shamisen and the okinawa sanshin,i've seen like gypsy guitar picks that are made from kevla and there huge,i've seen banjo picks and i've used mandolin picks, the pick i use for guitar is a solid thick style witch i like, what style pick do you like?,what song are you singing in this video? whats it about? whats your philosophy on music? and its relationship to life? i'm asking so many questions because the results educate me :)
Thanks ^_^ I appreciate your kind comment. Amami min'yo is difficult but very rewarding as with anything :3 All it takes is patience and practice. Thanks again, Im glad you liked it.
