  • This is poor science. Not only have they failed to demonstrate resonance, they have failed to consider different ways of constructing a bridge. Traditionally, the situation would be a large army of men marching in step over a stone bridge built with an arch; totally different to a single man bouncing on a beam construction. Mythbusters have disappointed me here.

  • They understand so little science.

Any intelligent engineering graduate student can tell them what they are doing wrong.

  • @gromitnyc I'm more than happy to send you my full resume, not as an engineer, but I will include my academics which include several years of physics. Have you ever pushed a child on a swing? It's the same principal, did you not watch the video? It's pretty simple science

  • i miss adam's hair

  • To everyone that says this has nothing to do with RESONANCE, Yes it does. Resonance is the tendancy of a system to oscillate at larger amplitudes at some points than others. As he pushed down he was storing energy, as he reflexed he converted that to kinetic then stored it as upwards force (the boards bent UP), then as he oscillated back down he had greater force. That's resonance, as he wasn't adding much energy to the system, but rather was using the existing energy gradually increased as he

  • @steveecker Dear sir, If you are an engineer, please send me a list of all projects you have worked on in the past or will work on in the future. I want to make sure I avoid them. Get some education for goodness sake. Sincerely,

  • Fatal resonate frequency to a structure? Nikola Tesla already proved that one. Earthquake Machine.

  • this has nothing to do with resonance!

  • rgwaw 2 should go to school first to learn a few things

  • Aww the army is so cute!!!!

  • That had nothing to do with RESONANCE.

  • they were doing it with a broken beam when they had 4 beams left, so it completely wrecks their hypothesis...

  • Good myth

  • This myth is true as in London the "Millennium Bridge" had to be closed when on the day it opened it began to oscillate as people crossed it. As it began to sway people began to walk in step with each other because of it swaying and so the swaying increased. It did not collapse as they shut it down and strenghened it but the belief was that it would collapse. Up to 2000 people use the bridge at a time though.

  • Mythbusters youtube users will run

You and your lies off youtube

    WE hate you!

  • that was stupit

  • very...but it's so fun!

  • The underside of the bridge looks like its already broken at 4:55

  • adams bald

  • ur not blind

  • I won't believe anything until I see those little marching robots break a bridge!

  • sorry i meant ffrom 2:34 to 2:41

  • it's called a marching cadence or marching song. it helps military personnel to concentrate on the cadence instead of on the mileage (normally we don't walk yards or feet).

    I DON'T KNOW BUT I'VE BEEN TOLD...

    THIS (INAUDIBLE) JUST WON'T HOLD...

    SOUND OFF 1 2, SOUND OFF 3 4, SOUND OFF 1 2 (SILENCE) 3 4.

LEFT, LEFT, YOUR LEFT RIGHT, RIGHT YOUR LEFT. (This is in case someone is kind of lost, they know the step within the formation). Hope this helped.

    God Bless You!

  • the inauible is bridge

  • thanx

  • whats the song from 2:43 to 2:40?plz respond

  • This is so non-scientific! They don't prove anything about the bridge oscilation. They just proved that momentum exists. As he reaches the apex of the jump, he has gained energy and that energy is expended into the bridge. Of course it will break!

  • at 5:00 you can see a crack in one of the bords not from him jumping on it

  • civil engineers have already know how oscillation cause failure. i don't see the point of putting this on mythbusters. it's a problem thats already been fixed....

  • so what they proved is the weaker you make a bridge the easier it is to break it

  • Yes. Surprising, isn't it?

  • They proved that it can be broken in a way that doesn't require more weight.

  • ya but thats like proing that a sheet of paper cant hold as much as a block of cement... its stupid all they did was reduce the load bearing capacity of the bridge they didnt prove that the frequency broke the bridge

  • That's not what they proved, unless Adam suddenly gained 100 pounds during the test. He didn't increase the weight at all, he moved in rythm with the bridge THEN it broke.

  • No, he didn't increase his weight at all. Instead, by bouncing, he changed his gravitational energy, which in turn made it seem like his weight "increased." In reality though, he was just applying more force onto the bridge with the help of good ol' gravity.

  • lmao pretty much

  • @winkelmolen Indeed :) I think that myth testing was a one big fail in every aspect, but entertaining as usually,

  • lol c'est incroyable.

  • gdfsob - They put it as PLAUSIBLE. ;3

  • 4:55-5:01 look at the bridge

you can see that the wood is already broken!

    Mythbusters are BUSTED!

  • I've never seen this one on TV.

  • Also, the new bridge they created was NOT a suspension bridge - so how could they test if a suspnsion bridge would collapse under marching soldiers?

  • does anybody knows the song of the marching song??? of the: I dont know but I've been told anybody???

  • He sings "I don't know what YOU'VE been told" - not sure where the original is from, but you can hear a fun variation in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket - check it out.

  • Yeah this is silly. It has nothing to do with resonance in the bridge. This is a small bridge so the feet should have been scaled down also and stepping at a much higher rate. They should have used a sensor that detects when the wave comes back and trig a little mechanical foot to take a new step at the right time to keep building the pulse.

  • This has happenned before in France and in England, so it's silly to even test this "myth". Angers suspension bridge in France collapsed under the feet of French soldiers.

  • you dont wanna swing around a little bit?

  • cool

  • lmao.

    BUSTED.
