This is one of the most disturbing scenes in the movie. Micky fakes his own death to set up Mike and then somehow gets over to the birthday scene dressed as a Monk. Not a nice joke to play on your friend. This would have disturbed young fans of the show at the time; there were a lot of deeply cynical moments like this in the movie.
