  • it's not to bad if you are tech sabby and have the balls you can do i did so that i could run Windows 7; instead of the Windows Vesta provided.

  • It looks too hard for me, I bought the memory, now I wish I would have seen this first!!

  • Thank you very much for the upload, it was quite helpful.

Seriously...WTF was Acer thinking?! This is a very very very very VERY poorly designed case. They couldn't have added a slot on the bottom for replacing the hard drive and memory? Worthless piece of crap.

  • So I took my laptop apart Because my laptop won't work to charge the better and i know my cord is fine try to fix by myself I hope can find problem I reall want my small laptop back thanks

  • cool......no all this though

  • nice credit card number and expiry date bro

  • @itsmabus

Its an HBC Rewards card, every Canadian has one, also its not a credit card, just shaped like one.

  • Thanks a lot. Really really thanks a lot on this video. now I can finally fix that lost HDD

  • I just got an acer aspire one, and I am using it as a secondary computer for doing small tasks, so will upgrading the RAM make much of a difference in its performance?

  • Thanks for the Video. Helped out a lot. I also added more air flow to cpu while I had it apart. The circular area at the bottom of the cover where th cpu fan lies beside. I drilled several holes in a honeycomb pattern. It has provided twice the air flow and brought my cpu temp 10 degrees. (sensorview ver 4). 10 degrees is quite a bit!. I also added cpu thermo paste to the cpu chips under the fan cover for extra measure!.

Thought I would add my two bits of info to help!! Cheers!!

  • BE WARE!!!!!! I posses an Acer Aspire One Atom something or another, and my keyboard and trackpad ribbons DO NOT FLIP yours might not either if they do not flip do not try to flip them, try pulling or pushing them away from any soldered parts.

  • @RandomConcepts Indeed, this is what I actually ended up doing. Worked pretty well!

  • a friend gave me a AO150 with a without keyboard locking tab. Any way to replicate or purchase it?

  • I needed to remove my HDD from my Aspire One Netbook to re-install windows (image) on it. The HDD, like the memory, is very hard to "get to" and requires dis-assembly. Your video saved me many heartaches and helped me get the job done. Thanks for such a fantastic step by step video. Keep up the good work!

  • Question I went to amazon.com brought some ram 2gb in fact and the seller and amazon said it was compatible with the a150 but when i turn it on the screen is black someone please help.

  • HI gots me a problem here myn works wit a 1 gb but if i put my 2 gig in the screen goes black xD is my ram broke or is there a limit how much i can put in mostly when the ram is dead i hear a peep but on this thing i get a black screen

  • @cantbeatanime17 The limit is 1.5 gb.

  • Wow,.. you got more patience than I do... I'm never buying one of these POS.. LOL!!

  • HI, I am going to attempt to add more ram, but wanna ask you all, what is the bay on the back for? there is a square cut out with a screw, I couldnt find anywhere what can be added to that.

  • NOTE TO ALL: be SUPER careful with the monitor cable... even though I was, it is SO fragile that one of the wires inside mine broke. The cable is about $40 to replace and very hard to find.

  • Excellent video, appreciate it very much :-)

  • Great Howto this one, thnx a lot worked like a charm in +/- 20min done and dusted

  • Why not just put the memory in from t he back ?

  • nice video

  • LOL @ using a magnetic screw driver on a net book, your looking for trouble.

Also a good idea is that after you take out the battery, press the power button a couple times to discharge any left over electrical signals in the devices. No need to short out the netbbok, or shock yourself needlessly.

Other than that good video. Just bought one of these myself. Looking forward to seeing what it will run like with 2gs ram.

  • or if it already has a 1GB in their by adding another 1GB to the memory expansion thing, would i then be at 2 GB total? sorry im kinda new to this:P

  • could you upgrade it to 2GB of ram?

  • 1.5GB. comes with half already with room to very tediously add another 1GB

  • Dude, a single stuck screw got me. I've seen some fucked up designs in my life but this beats them all. It's a great video, but I lost you just before lifting the mobo at the end. That screw just wont come off and I damaged it badly trying.

  • Because your screw driver obviously wasn't the right size for the screw head and you've stripped it.

  • @detonatorloki It was the right size. I got the others out fine. This was just very very tight. And I didn't strip it too badly after all, because after posting this I made it.

  • good grief could they make this more complicated ? why not just have a door on the bottom ? this is dumb as shit to do this..Acer needs to be bitch slapped for making it so difficult

  • hey can we see the credit card number and name again..I'd like to buy a new laptop

  • shame about the netbooks using an atom .... intel should of slapped in a Pentium 4 HT or Pentium D ? surely they can a netbook should be powerful but atom rules tho

  • You must be really dumb if you don't understand that a more powerful CPU would drain lot more electrcial power, which basically destroys the whole concept of a netbook. You're such a noob...sigh

  • fucking idiot theres netbooks out there with 2Ghz soon to be dual core more power the better who gives a fuck about more electricial power?, don't tell me your one of thos epeople who saves the planet ?

you've been saying n00b all night wow

  • I watched a few of the video's on TheTube before settling on your video. I also waited until my machine was one year old and the warranty gone ;-) Now running Windows XP with 1.5GB RAM instead of that silly Linpus Linux. Thank you very much!

  • One screw - one lousy screw refused to move, in the battery bay. A bit of levering with a flat screwdriver around the plastic released it but, even with a good quality driver, it wasn't going to move. That was the only aww-shit moment when I thought I'd wasted money on the chip and couldn't get the case apart. Sound card connector was really hard to pull off - that was another sweaty moment. 30 minutes in all playing and pausing the video as I went. Happy and, running Linux Mint, works a treat.

  • Great Video! It took me about 45 minutes, being extra careful! Works great!

  • Thanks a bunch, this was excellent!

  • Will be doing this soon.

  • Please please please make sure you replace the capton tape where the LCD cable connector plugs into the board. The tape MUST be laid on the board under where the metal connector part goes. This will save the screen.

  • great video, i've done 3 of these now and it gets easier the more you do it! not as complicated as it looks for a novice!!

  • now running windows 7 great!!

  • Рукожопый тип))) У меня все сразу получилось))) Защелки сразу не заметил)

  • Great step by step disassembling, thx a lot!

  • INTEL ATOM SUCKS!!!!

  • NOTE: some people are saying this will not void your warranty. IT WILL. Memory upgrades on laptops usually dont, because there is an access slot under the machine to get to RAM. This thing doesnt have one, so you have strip it completely, thus removing "warranty-check" screws.

Also, its tricky. Dangerous and like me you may hve to solder parts back on :)

Also, if you KB lock slots go missing, its cause they got stuck inside the rounded part of the case. Simply look from behind.

  • damn I dont have the guts to try this on my acer. I was hoping it was going to be easier

  • i share ur pain!! & the warranty! O.o

  • What the heck Acer was thinking?

  • Thank you so much for this video it really helped :D

  • Now i dont even want to add more ram to mine! Is another 512 MB Such a big diffrence?

  • right... those darn rubber feet will never stay on....lol

  • I was hopeing this would be easyer like some of the other mini pc's but this one seems to be the biggest pain in the butt!

  • great video thanks

  • Nice one - thanks!

  • do you know the bays at the back of the netbook its with screw and its a black small retangle

  • how much stuff (programs, movies e.c.t) do you have on your AA1.

Can it only take soo much?

How much of you HDD have you filled?

will lots of stuff make it slower?

  • ITS SO HARD

  • This video helped me out a lot thanks!

  • this is insane how much stuff you have to take apart to add a piece of ram.. very good tutorial though!

  • DAM! this is tricky stuff...

lol :3 i just appreciate my desktop build a bit more lol but anyways, this voids' the warranty right? lol generally taking stuff apart does...

  • Thanks for this guide. I got mine today and did my ram today too.

One thing i will say... Use a screwdriver that fit these screws very snug. Some of the screws on my laptop were tight as fuck. I spent the best part of an hour wrestling with a shredded screw. Ahh, got there in the end though :)

  • Computers are so much easier to take apart

  • Every time I hear the clicking/popping noises from the video I can't help but wince. Maybe I'll wait until my netbook is a few weeks older.

  • will this work on the 150 model and im a noob so i dont know about ram. I dont know stuff such as can you buy ram from anywhere and it will work or do you need a special type

  • Thanks, it is a good tutorial. I upgraded my ram from 512mb to 1 Gb last night but now some of my keys on the keyboard don't respond and my touchpad is not registering at all. I opened it up and checked the ribbon connections but I can't get it to function 100%. Any suggestions?

Also I broke the screw holding the SSD in place. So I am a bit worried it will come loose at some stage. Any suggestions how I can hold it in place. Is superglue acceptable. You can see why I chose this name.

  • You could try cleaning the ribbon cable contacts with Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol.

Make sure the cables are fully inserted also make sure you clip the locking tabs down or the cable will not make proper contact.

    hopefully this solves your problem.

You may also want to check your keyboard and touch pad cables for damage.

I have had my aspire open about 5 times and never had any problems with the keyboard or touch pad at all.

  • Thanks - I will spend some time carefully cleaning and reinserting the ribbon cables. I will let you know if I have any success.

  • I lost one rubber feet. know where I can buy a new one?

  • I would just buy some generic rubber feet for the hardware store and stick them on

you could call acer tech support and ask if they could send some rubber feet but not sure how much luck you will have with that

  • @mealexxx Well, what I would suggest is upgrading to a 6-cell or 9-cell battery because it acts like a stand for the aspire so the rubber feet become useless

  • .... u can do this alot faster without credit card just use your fingers!! and a screw!

  • Sounds like a good way to put scratches in the aspire one.

But ok do what you like to take yours apart

  • Im working at a notebook company and i build/repair notebooks/netbooks everyday. i never made scratches on the notebook/netbook with my fingers??

  • what about the screw!

that will scratch things I would think.

Maybe I am not understanding your explanation

  • i got 2000 mhz geforce 8700 200gb hard drive 1gb ram 10.100 mbps lan and amd athlon 64 proccesor 3700

  • what does this have to do with an aspire one netbook ???

  • idk just showing people my specs lol

  • trying to show of

  • this is alot of fucking work O_O

  • NOT FOR LAZY DUDES,,,

  • I'm thinking in buy a Acer aspire one of 1gb ram but I want to upgrade it but I read it only supports 1.5 gb as maximum but are 533mhz memories I dont find on Amazon those memories can I put 667 mhz memories??

  • I am using 667mhz in mine and some people have used 800mhz and still worked fine.

  • ok thanks

  • Thank you, I earned $50 thanks to this video.

  • lol do I get a cut of that just kidding

  • Well, my guess is that I'll be seeing a lot of these computers around. So if I happen to have to use this information more, well I think that you've earned it. I'll let you know.

    Thanks again.

  • Hey there,

I have a 1gb stick, Samsung 2Rx16 PC2 - 6400S. I'm curious to know if there would be any compatibility issues in my Acer Aspire netbook were I to go through the trouble.

    Thanks much.

  • It should work fine but I can't say for sure it's good fast ram much faster then needed but it should down clock to 533mhz no problem.

if you do go ahead and add it post the out come in the comments I have seen others use 800mhz ddr2 sodimm and it worked fine for them.

remember take your time doing this and make sure the screw driver tip fits the screws good to avoid stripping the heads

if you have to try a few different screw drivers to get proper fit do it.

    Anyway good luck

  • wow, that is a sickening amountof work to do just to stick in some ram, now i wish i hadnt bothered ordering ram. i have 1 gig now, so max is 1.5

too much bother for a half gig ram upgrade

  • are you upgrading to 2 gb or 1.5?

  • 1.5 gb is the maximum ram you can install period.

The main board has 512mb and I added a 1 gb stick of ddr2 sodimm 667mhz for a total of 1.5gb ram

I repeat the netbooks maximum amount of ram is 1.5gb DO NOT BUY A 2 GB STICK OF RAM IT WILL NOT WORK AT ALL PERIOD.

Get a 1GB DDR2-667Mhz 200PIN SODIMM Memory people have also had good luck with 800mhz ram. got my ram at NCIX

  • Got another Acer One.. My other one had the Bios Corruption few months ago and got replaced by a HP Mini 1000. Acer One 160gig 8.9in. White running Triple Boot XP - Win7RC1 - Presto

Drive is partitioned in half with Partition magic so I dont lose the Acer Restore Partition. :) Win7 is wonderful..

  • Hey all !

you dont need 2 gig in ram .1,5 gig is good . My Lenovo thinkpad T60 only use 950 mb (ram) .when I play the insurgency (half-life 2 mod) .So 1,5 gig is good =)

How is the Acer aspire one ?.i want to get one .because its so small and light weight. Im going to use it for a extra computer .If the other crash or something .

    Greetings.Rickard .Swe

  • Hey mate can you help me im getting a new acer i wnat which is best out of theese 2 specs for gaming and video editing ect and movies

    Processor - AMD Turion X2 mobile processor RM-72 2.1 GHz Dual-Core

    RAM - 4 GB (installed) 4 GB (max) - DDR2 SDRAM

    Hard Drive - 250 GB

Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

    Screen - 17 in 1440 x 900

    Optical Drive - DVD±RW (DL) / DVD-RAM

    Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G

    Bluetooth - No

    Notebook Camera -

  • or this one

    Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2 GHz Dual-Core

    RAM - 3 GB (installed) 4 GB (max) - DDR2 SDRAM

    Hard Drive - 250 GB

Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

    Screen - 16 in TFT active matrix 1366 x 768 24-bit (16.7 million colours)

    Optical Drive - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM / BD-ROM

Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS

    Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS - 256 MB

    Bluetooth - No

  • I would get the intel 2 Duo T5800 laptop with the GeForce 9300M GS its little faster then the

NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G for gaming and intel cpus are faster for video encoding most of the time

there both decent laptops the AMD Turion X2 has a 17inch screen with better resolution of 1440 x 900 vs 1366 x 768

but a slower graphics processor it all depends if you ever plan to play 3D games.

you will have to decide there both decent laptops

  • Her Zaperbaby i got your message thank's for all the help i think i am going to go with the one you reccomended , just going to look around before i get it there might eb somethingelse out there for the £500 limit that's better. Thank's for your help :)

  • Agreed. The turion processor I own and really hate the way it lags when doing simple transfers to Flash memory. On an Intel, there is no affect. GO with the intel and be happy. Much more support too!

  • the G is better than the Gs

  • this is one of the best tutorials for ram expansion aa1 yet. i already have done it,must have missed this before.... i only had 1 problem when doing this,(7:42 in your vid) this connector was tight and i tried pliers to pull it out and snapped a piece off the plastic, luckily it still held together..i ended up just wiggling the wires to get it out....so BEWARE dont use pliers for anything...lol

  • The Acer Aspire NoteBook I ordered off the Internet today, comes with 1gb of ram... will I be able to add another GB of ram?

  • no cause There is one slot with a 512mb stick and the on board 512mb =1gb ram you can take the 512mb stick out and replace it with a 1gb stick giving you 1.5gb ram and thats the maximum you can put in the aspire one.

not sure what the new 10.1 inch aspire one can take for ram but sure is easier to do with the new aspire one

cause they put a access door on the bottom of it for ram and hd.

  • I've just upgraded my Acer Aspire's ram today using this video as a guide, it couldn't have been easier, just follow each stage exacly (being very careful with all the components) and it's a doddle, this guy really knows his stuff, highly recommended video ).....

  • Hi I found that if you place a memory of 2GB DDR2 533MHz If you accept the acer aspire one .. I hope your answers

  • i have that same tripod and i love it!!!!!

  • It is possible to install memory with 2 GB and frequency 667MHz? It wil crash or will work with 1.5GB? Thanks!

  • No it does not support 2gb sticks

you can only install a 512mb or 1gb ddr2 sodimm and the main board has 512mb on board for a max total of 1.5gb.

If you put a 2gb stick in it will not boot

your best bet would be a 1gb ddr2 sodimm I got mine at ncix com for $12.99 most of the time the price is around $12-$20

but the shipping is to much if all you order is the ram so you may want to look around for the best price.

my stick was 1gb ddr2 667mhz and has been working fine for 5 months

  • Thanks for the video, it really helped! I want to mention that the RAM on this machine is misleading. It annoys me because an online advisor instructed me to buy two 1 gb sticks of ram. Obviously, the aspire one does not have two slots. Dang it.

  • my computer screen is BLANK. what can i do?

  • If this happened after you upgraded the memory take it apart again and check all connections and remove the extra memory

    and try again.

If everything's been working and all the sudden stopped working you can try

    A BIOS recovery.

google (Acer Aspire One bios recovery)

macles has a good tutorial on using a usb stick to do a recovery flash on the Acer aspire one.

good luck hope you get it up and running again

  • if my acer already has a 1gb ddr2,can i add another 1 gig?

  • know you can not add another 1 GB of memory

the Acer aspire one supports a maximum of 1.5 GB of RAM

  • first of all thank you for taking your time to asnwer my question.now i have anohter one, acer only has 8 gb of hard drive, now is there a bigger hard drive i can buy?if so what website you recommend.i would really appriciate it.

  • search for "tnkgrl aspire one" one google. result nr. 1 leads to her wordpress-blog.

modding video part 2 shows how to replace the terribly slow ssd with a 1,8" pata hdd.

  • The aspire that comes with 1 GB of memory has 512 MB on board and a memory slot

that has a 512 MB ram module installed for a total of 1 GB of ram

The largest amount of memory you can install in the aspire is 1.5 GB

because the chipset used in the Aspire only supports 2 GB of RAM

if you put more than 2 GB of RAM in it will not boot and they do not sell 1.5 GB RAM modules

It's not worth the trouble for an extra 512 MB of RAM in my opinion

I upgraded mine because it only came with 512 MB RAM.

  • how to make the keyboard "clips" snap back?

my keyboard is kind of flying atm... =\

  • It sounds like you may have pushed the clips in way too far if the little black tabs are not popping out automatically.

If this is the case you're going to have to take the top casing off

and find the clips on the opposite side and very carefully with a small screwdriver put the clips back into place.

I accidentally pushed in one clip too far once when I was using a small flat head screwdriver

and never had problems when I used a credit card due to the rounded edges.

  • I guess I should have mentioned not to press in the clips too far or they will not pop out.

only once had a clip not pop back out

and I was using a small flat head screwdriver when this happened

but I guess even with the credit card it could happen.

If your clips are automatically popping out like they should you just need to push the keyboard down

where the clips are located till they click into place.

  • Unfortunately if you have popped the clips into far it's not easy to get them back in their place

take your time and don't force the clips too hard I found I had to use two small flat head screwdrivers

and very carefully maneuvered the clip back into its alignment.

I hope all goes well for you and you get the clips/tabs back into place.

    Good luck

And let me know what happens.

  • im sure your doing this just fine, but that snapping when you undo that flaps doesn't sound like its doing any justice for the computer. Im just gonna stick with my 512mb of stored ram and and extra 512mb i have on a memory card. :P

  • if you already have 1 GB of memory

there isn't much of a point in upgrading

to 1.5GB unless you're planning on installing Windows vista.

and the snapping sound you're hearing

    is not damaging anything.

The reason I upgraded is because mine only came with 512 MB of memory so it was worth upgrading.

  • i have a white one of those and i was thinking of upgrading the memory but it looks more complicated than i thought, im in agreement with ya zaperbaby why couldn't have they put a bay door on the bottom

  • you did a great job but I see no substantial difference in 1 and 1.5 gig performance wise. it's just the way they are making money fooling people to upgrade, that's why they didn't really care to put the cut-outs in the back to upgrade the memory. 1 GB is fairly enough for surfing web pages on wifi spots. 2 GB would have some impact but alas, 1.5 is the last resort. I prefer keeping it just like that..

  • mine only had 512mb ram so adding 1gb more ram made a big difference and was worth it.

I wouldn't bother if you have 1 gb ram do not add more ram it will make little difference unless you plan on having a lot of stuff running or you plan on installing windows vista

  • Yea I know, Dont have the ONE anymore. Wish I still had it.. I didnt know the bios could be reflashed with a corrupt bios until I found that website with the 100 people who fixed ther netbook.. Bummer, cause I really liked the One. The mini sucks ass, design errors HP!!!

  • do you know if its possible to install a graphics card on the acer aspire one? is the graphics card the same size as the other graphics cars???

  • no there is no way to add a video card at all

  • how come?

  • OMG, Just searched Acer One bios recovery and found that post about the dead Acer one. How many People posted It fixed it.. Thats insane to have that many machines have the bios Lost or corrupt. I had the newest Bios in the Acer one, and it still crashed locked up. I didnt think of BIOS recovery at the time, so I didnt even try it. :( They need to fix it tho, if that many machine lock up. My first sign was Install Errors. The OS also didnt shut down, it Froze and had to force Hold power

  • geezz the more i read, the more i want my One back..

  • My Acer One Purchased Jan 5 09 No Longer Posts. Lasted 17 Days. Please be warned about Overheating. Installing large Software like Office 2007 Rebooted, then Nothing.. Ouch Acer.. Im guessing Heat because of Other online Posts about a Blank Black Screen with a Green Lite Power Button. Disappointment.. Moved onto the HP mini 1000 and Praying it stays alive.

  • you may want to google "macles Acer Aspire One bios recovery" this worked on my friends with black screen probably would worked on mine too but I didn't fined out about it till after I sent it out for repair.

so if you still have your acer around give it a try

sounds like you exchanged it for the hp though.

the old 3114 bios would corrupt it self at random new 3309 bios I have has been working good and I think the problem with the bios

    has been cleared up.

  • I really did like the Acer One too. The Build Q was good and the keyboard didnt hit the LCD. I'm Not realy happy with the mini 1000 because of the wavy keyboard, Keyboard touching the LCD when closed, Mouse buttons feel cheap, Battery locks feel cheap and the memory Door Lock "One was Broken/Missing" This was a sealed machine so no one touched it besides the builder in China for HP. Your Talking a 500 dollar machine now.. The Acer Never Left my home after I purchased it and it sat on a desk

  • The HP mini Has a very strong Fan tho, Way stronger then the Acer One with a Big Heat Pipe system. Photos - Google

HP is sending me a new Ram Door so that will get fixed. Back to the Acer One, I did remove the Bios Battery put it back together and the same result, No post, Green Light, Fan running Black LCD. Just Like Bad DDR Ram in a tower.. I did also try other Ram, but Half the ram is soldered onto the Mboard, so no way to check that. Funny thing is, Office started giving errors, CONT

  • So I restarted the machine, and thats when it didnt POST.. Great Looking machine ACER Please fix it before it turns into a flop netbook. IF it happened to mine "Im very Picky about my Hardware and how its treated. If a system feels warm Ill lift it with something for more air flow.. A+ and Net+ Cert Was very happy with the machine until D Day.. Not real Happy with the MINI..

  • Youtube full-screen performance in linux sucks

due to adobe not making a decent player for linux,

    not linux itself.

  • .....a lot of technology on that little thing ....im amazed .......now i want to see a nvidia ion based netbook :) ....

  • And what is that small door on the bottom of the acer aspire one for?

  • Mini PCI Express card but only on the 3G aspire one model other wise its empty with no PCI express connector solder to the mother board

  • Is the warranty void if you add ram to your acer aspire one? Like is the warranty still good or is it cancelled once you upgrade your ram?

  • the warranty is voided if you take it apart.

I managed to get mine through warranty for a dead mother board probably caused by over heating cause the fan sucks in it.

I was compressing video when it died.

I was vary careful not to leave a trace I opened it and removed the extra ram I installed

then sent it out for repair

  • Whew, this is more difficult than brain surgery!

  • is the acer better than eee pc

  • depends on witch eee pc you are looking at

ncix has acer for $349.99can with 1.5gb ram 160gb hd 3 cell battery

    linux version

google "ncix sku 35601" to find it

  • In order to remove the keyboard do you need to unscrew the bottom screws first ?

I need to clean the keyboard as i spilt some liquid on it ( a key is stuck)

  • almost 100% sure you can remove keyboard with out taking screws out on the bottom

  • whats the little door on the bottom of the aspire one for

  • some models have a 3g mini pci-e card for surfing the net on 3g cell networks on models with out 3g they don't solder in the mini pci-e connector :(

  • tat is amazing do you know how much memory can it handle?? cos I do editting and I'd really like to upgrade it, check at the promo-video I just finished on my aspire one /watch?v=cZH-FYUg20Q

  • 1.5gb is most it can handle

  • this is why you buy an Asus netbook.

  • yah yah I no

when I got my aspire I didn't no that

it didn't have a upgrade panel like most laptops oh well

way easier to do then taking apart my model r/c helicopter

  • Great video - many thanks! I changed my wlan card and thanks to you I did it in 10 minutes without damaging the computer.

  • why change the wlan appart from if its broke or making faster i see no point install fedora 10 on it it is awsome

  • Of course I didn't do it for fun. I use eCS and the driver for the inbuilt atheros card is not good and wont be better in the foreseeable future.

  • Thanks for the Vid, I did the update no problems with your help.

  • i just purchased one of these and i had it about a week now. but recently it has been taking a long time to boot up and all of the stuff is really slow. all of the noises are occuring in a slow, staticy manner. If anyone kmows how to fix this id appreciate a reply.

  • This is the best tutorial video I found on here for doing this. I was nervous at first, but I succeeded in upgrading my netbook to 1.5 gb. Thanks

  • wtf! your not grounded!

  • yah I no but I am also not rubbing my feet on the carpet or touching all the components on the main board.

I should probably note not to do this if your house has a lot of static electricity

  • Thanks for this. I used it to switch out the 120GB hard drive for a 320GB one, after using XXClone to clone my existing install to the bigger drive. The keyboard clips are annoying, but everything went smoothly and it works fine.

The HDD cage has to be unscrewed (two screws), removed from the SATA interface on the board (it's almost like an NES cartridge) and the hard drive itself unscrewed from the cage (four screws) before the drives can be swapped. Piece of cake compared to the rest of it!

  • Thanks for the video, worked for me....and agree...big pain in the butt to upgrade.

Note (SD does have cable to from MB)...

  • Are the hard drive versions sata interface or IDE? Is the daughter card there to adapt ide to sata maybe?

I'd rather have Linux than XP on my lappy.

Thanks for your tutorial on this, and using a credit card is invaluable little trick.

  • If you have the hard drive version it is a sata interface.

If you have the ssd version there's no space for a 2.5inch hd plus there is no sata connector on the main board some daring people have soldered a sata connector and cut some plastic out to fit a 2.5 inch sata drive

people have also used 1.8inch hard drives

    to replace the ssd

there may be sata to ide converters but there is probably no room to fit everything in the aspire one

plus sata drives are cheeper most of the time

  • Thanks for the reply. I never buy a pc with out being able to tear it down and build it like I want it. It's why I build my own desktops. Been picking up used laptops off craigslist, and decking them out and running Linux on them. It's my cheap hobby.

  • if it came with 1 gb ram there's 512mb on the mother board and 512mb stick of ram in the slot you can replace to 512mb stick with a 1gb stick for a total of 1.5gb ram

  • I did this soon after replacing the hard drive. The difference isn't huge, but I do notice certain things like slightly faster boot times. And it's only $15 for a 1GB stick of laptop RAM these days, so it's a no-brainer in terms of cost.

  • mine is a 1gb and i have a spare 1gb,can i put this in or would it not work?

    thanks

  • How many empty memory slots does it have?? does it have 2 or one??

  • only 1 slot for ddr2 sodimm with max of 1gb and there's 512mb on the main board for a max of 1.5gb ram
