  • no thats too much i have a prejudice against fat people that i need to get over, but blind owl really is the lead singer of this great band

  • its all about blind owl, the fat guy is fine but he lacks sensitivity and general humanity

  • JOHN HAMMOND WAS THE FIRST WHITE MAN I EVER THOUGHT THAT COULD SING AND FEEL IT LIKE THE GREAT BLIND BLUES MASTERS OF THE TWENTY'S.

THEN ALONG COMES ALLEN WILSON. EERIE AND SPOOKIE LIKE SKIP. HE MAKES IT LOOK SO EFFORTLESS.

THIS WHITE MAN IS IN CONTENTION FOR THE GREATEST BLUES SINGER EVER. I DONT EVEN THINK OF HIM AS WHITE OR BLACK. JUST RIGHTEOUS.

YES, IN KEEPING WITH THE THEME, I'M SPEECHLESS. ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES.

PLEASE LORD, LET HIM BE IN YOUR HEAVENLY CHOIR.

  • lyrics please? any hardcore fans/ keen ears

  • Owen Blind Owl Wilson is the lead singer of canned heat

  • Might it be skip taylor? Just guessin??

  • great photo.. who is the suit though?

  • AHHH!!!!!! This song drives me crazy with feeling. I need lyrics to it badly. Figured out the 1st and last lines, but those middle two are so hard to understand. Does anyone know them? can't find lyrics for it anywhere

  • @callmecap10 I'm pretty sure it's by Charley Patton. Interestingly, Blind Owl, who had perfect pitch, transcribed the lyrics and music of Patton's entire recorded repertoire for John Fahey's UCLA master thesis on Patton. When Fahey became famous, or perhaps just a bit less obscure, someone actually published it, but I doubt it would be easy to find.

  • @CroatAndNettles hmmm, the only other version of the song I can find is performed by Texas alexander and it's on here. (youtube) that's pretty awesome though, I'll have to look into it. He did have the tendency to take those old tunes and rework the lyrics his own way. Thanks! (btw, check out my band The Unfiltered Sound's version of sloppy drunk @ reverbnation/theunfilteredsound if you'd like!)

  • @callmecap10 You probably are right. Patton did do some amazing songs about death, but I may be wrong about Death Bed Blues. In any event, I found your band's version of Sloppy Drunk and liked it a lot. It definitely is Al Wilson-influenced but your own way of doing it. So thanks for that. I'm really glad there are good musicians interested in his work.

  • @CroatAndNettles

Thank you I appreciate that. It'd be nice to see Alan get more recognition

  • @CroatAndNettles I have been told that this is a remake of Son House song "Black Mama part one " The title of Death bed Blues was given to this after Alan's death. ? by whom

  • @joycejnn Interesting but beyond the scope of my knowledge. If I remember correctly, you are the expert in these matters since you who wrote the definitive biography of Alan Wilson, which I recommend to everyone who is interested in the life of this excellent musician.

  • @CroatAndNettles Ha Ha .Rebecca Davis is the lady who wrote the Biography Blind Owl Blues.I was told that this one a remake of Son House's My Black Mama part one and that the title Death Bed Blues was given to this version after Alan had died as Alan had left it untitled.

  • Respond to this video... I t was untitled on the tape
