i have this laptop, it sucks it always crashes the disc tray is broken, you only get 2hrs of battery life also the volume buttons you have to press really hard!

The fix doesnt work for me, seems to be a problem for alot of xps1530 users. Picture works fine no sound thru HDMI.

When I connect my M1530 to a Vizio 42" LCD, it says "no signal." I've tried everything: I updated my drivers, did the whole "new display detected thing" (I want mirrored), for some reason in the Windows Mobility Center it says "Display connected" under external display... but on my TV it still says "no signal"

Anyone got any ideas? It's buggin the shit outta me... i cant sleep without a TV-Computer HDMI connection

Thanks for that HDMI tip, I have spent ages trying to get the sound sorted, I use my xps for music and use a hdmi external soundcard which is integrated inside an eight track mixer (alesis multimix 8)

Setting your monitor (TV) as primary on the nVidia graphics setting will stop it going blank when you close it. Otherwise it just clones the screen. (This works for me anyway)

Hi, I had sound and vision coming through my tv but yesterday I clicked on the media cener by accident and when I came plug my hdmi cable in this morning the television just says "no signal" but I dont know what the problem is. Ive checked the cable and the cable works. Pleae help.

Can you sit back and use your xps with your 32" for normal usage such as internet browsing, word processing etc? Cos you said it was blurry a few times. or is the hdmi just good for watching video on a bigger screen?

the xps i just got has 500gb HDD, 256MB nVidia 8600M GT video card, 4GB DDR2 RAM Memory, an intel 2 duo core (2.4Ghz) and altogether it costs 1,600 USD directly from DELL (dell's website). Do you think this price is about right for my laptop? Or was I ridiculously ripped off by Dell? People, friends and family alike, tell me that it was stupid of me buying from Dell because their stuff are overpriced.

Also I might have missed some other details but I think the ones I listed should give u a idea

but the thing is... Dell has a new line out called Studio XPS now, and it's a hybrid between studio and XPS. It's higher quality than the normal xps at about the same price.. i just got an xps like a week ago and they released it like a few days after i ordered it.. lol..

Defiantly! But you first need to modify your default power settings. Go to "Control Panel" > "power options" then modify your selected plan settings. Now click on "Advanced Power Settings". Scroll down and expand "Power Button & Lid", expand "Lid Close Action". Now change both "On Battery" & "Plugged in" to "Do Nothing". Now save, your good to go!!

Based on what you're talking, the "distortion" you seem to witness doesn't really seem related to the laptop, your connection, or anything, but rather the compression used by hulu or netflix. So unless you get this _only_ on the shown setup, and not on your desktop or something, it's not in any way the Laptop's fault.

You may be correct. When using Hulu & Netflix in the last few months the distortion has gone away for the most part. I think it was the websites streaming bandwidth.

Great review. I'm thinking of an HDMI laptop and seems that M1530 is the one. How do I get the "better" LG screen? Which option at the Dell Configuration screen is it? Or is it just a hit'n'miss kind of a deal? Thanks.

You'll have a better chance on getting an LG if you choose the 1440x900 LED backlit option. I just sent back a Studio 1535 that had an LG LED backlit 1440x900 screen and the screen was awesome. I sent the Studio back due to 2 design flaws, which are, an off center LCD to the left and slight middle warping due to tight fit of internal components.

When my refund posts, I'm going with the XPS M1530 with the same screen selection and I doubt I will be unhappy.

hmm I dont think logging off is necessary because the sound works well after you set it as default (without logging off after that)

Not for me. The sound setting doesn't stick until you log off, then log back on. Do you have the M1530? Does it work differently for you???

mine's on it's way too! got the standard 1440x900 which is fine for me- after all, that's the native resolution of a 19" screen on a 15.4" screen.

I am choosing a screen for my XPS M1530 but don't know what to get. Why is the lower pixel-high resolution more expensive than the high def.

The difference is "LED". Basically this means that an LED screen is a bit thinner and they say it is brighter and more energy efficient. I have read reviews that the it being more energy efficient isn't always true. It depends how many LED lights they put in the screen. I do believe that this is a great choice. The two resolutions that you are comparing are VERY different. Please please keep this in mind before buying the laptop. the 1920x1200 is going to be really small.

The distortion would be because you are only playing a 480P video. If it was 720P or 1080i/P you probably wouldn't have that occur.
