@hth2mil I spoke with one of the designers and they said the original one by Bell in the 60's could fly for 21 seconds. This one, 33 seconds. It's based on Navy torpedo motors that use hydrogen peroxide blown over a silver screen as catalyst, under high pressure...I think they use a nitrogen tank. The pure peroxide turns into high pressure steam when it touches the silver screen mesh. They key to the whole thing is that silver coated screen. Get it wrong and the silver comes off and it quits.

@Soulfree2008 The problem has always been having an energy source lightweight and powerful enough. There is no such fuel even just on paper. Until such a source is available a jet pack will just continue to be a toy. A similar type device using ducted fans though is looking promising though. It won't be a jet pack but it will be close!

The older version had the weak link of having only twenty seconds of flight time....Using a microjet can be the way to go...perhaps a type to use thrust vectoring into a winged semi aircraft. The swiss micro-plane is great..but landing is a non-starter....perhaps an integration of these two concepts.
