  • A great Chicago (And American!) icon who died many decades too soon! Also love his "City Of New Orleans" song (As recorded by Arlo Guthrie).

  • look at that smile on his face - say's it all!

  • He was a friend, great songwriter and cool guy...miss him tons.

  • and keep clicking 1:40

  • on beemp3.com it was called "Golden Dick"

  • keep clicking: 1:40

  • Awesome! Go Cubs!

  • probably 19 republicans

  • Ernie Banks said that "The Cubs will shine in '69" !!

  • This will be Ronnie's year to get elected to the HOF. God speed Ronnie. You will always be loved in Chicago.

  • What a terrible loss was Steve Goodman's death.

    .

  • Hobo Bill's Last Ride? It's a familiar sounding song...

  • Just one championship please? For Steve..

  • @CallMeMrFlatLiner bartman?!;)

  • Fine walkin' blues. Great voice and heart tugging blues song. Steve is terrific!

  • 103 years

  • 103

  • A portiion of Steve Goodman's ahes WAS buried beneath home plate at Wrigley Field

  • Steve AKA "SouthSideShorty" was a familiar presence at home games, running around and stoking the fury of CUBS fans.

  • He seems to have that sincerely winning smile a lot. Makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.

  • More American than apple pie and Old Glory. Steve was an American original. No one wrote songs like him and had such humility. The good always die young!!

  • Considering the choices that the BBWA have choosen as of late.,......This guy should be in the hall of Fame//...Better than some of the selections... Steve, you made us all feel good. And 25 years later you still do, and the Cubs still suck!@!!!

  • I got to see Steve Goodman play in Austin about a month before he died. It's one of those memories I hold dear. Being a Rangers fan I could sympathize as well.

  • Early in the 1997 season, the Cubs endured a 14 game losing streak. During that streak, prior to a game between the Ottawa Lynx and the Norfolk Tides, they played this song as Jetform Park in Ottawa. Rick Dempsey was managing Norfolk at the time and was signing autographs as the song was playing. Then he started to sing with us. It's funny the things you remember. That afternoon the Cubs snapped their losing streak and finally won a game.

  • Being a cub fan all my life, this is awesome I have seen this a million times before, but I need to see it at least once a week.

  • Great song from an awesome song writer, Steve Goodman. I didn't know I was supposed to hate the Cubs when I was 5 years old, so they're still my 2nd favorite. When they win The Series someday, I'm heading to Chicago's Northside and be a part of The World's Biggest Party! Until then.....Go Cardinals! ; )

  • I miss Steve terribly

  • Sixteen people didn't like this vid? Losers.

  • have keithe moreland drop a routine pop fly lol ........maybe we do have a new ronny

  • As a Yankee Fan I will say Steve Goodman Wrote Some great Songs Like City of New Orleans GO Cubs Go and this song A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request . Hang in their Cubbies you'll win it again one day ......

  • My 2nd favorite team in baseball. The Sox are my favorite.

  • man Chicagos gunna go apeshit when they win it all.

  • @DetroitTigersFan187 God that's the truth. There so many of us fan all over the place that the country will be a party for days

  • @DetroitTigersFan187 Agreed. I was at the Hawks parade and the Cubs one will be 5X as big.

  • @tonyleva35

Only thing that'll be just as big is if the Lions win the superbowl!

  • The best baseball song - period. Thanks, Steve. NO LIGHTS!!

  • Win it for Ronny and Steve!

  • Come on people really, none of you play in the mlb. Just watch and enjoy.

  • RIP Ron Santo and Steve Goodman!

  • Thank G-d for the White Sox. If I were a Cub fan I would've slit my wrist after 1969, 1984, 2003, 2004, 2008... heck scratch that. Make it every year since 1908.

  • @IDF1987 yeah, you must feel so much better with your whopping 3 world series compared to our 2. Cardinals/Yankees fans would probably feel the same about being a White Sox fan. It's all relative I guess..

  • Cubs baseball killed Steve Goodman, Ron Santo, and Harry Caray.

  • Teams aren't made up of players or championships, they're made up of fans and fond memories. The CUBS haven't given their fans a championship in a long time but they've more than made up for it in other ways; ways you can only understand when you walk up the tunnel for the first time and see greener grass and bluer skies than you thought possible. You get goosebumps every time and remember that the game in wrigley is good regardless of the score... It's baseball.

  • I hope the Cubs win the World Series someday. And when they do, I hope the Cub fans react better to glory than did those dirty bastards in Boston.

  • Skyler: "Of course, one day, the Cubs will win the World Series. It's only logical."

Cosmo: "Skyler, the concept of the Cubs winning the World Series is only theological." -- Jeff MacNelly, Chicago Tribune, "Shoe"

  • fatigue .... great sone

  • 15 dislikes, damn Yankees!

  • @fhiz1 I agree, us Cards fans don't disrespect. We have the best rivalry in all of sports.

  • @frewdis Yankees and Red Sox?

  • @fhiz1 amen... possibly the greatest baseball song ever ("take me out to the ballgame," being ubiquitous... damn yankits)

  • @druNkwriter Um, I'm a Yankee Fan and I like this song .-.

  • Rest in peace. With respect, a cards fan.

  • This song reminds me of a great friend...R.I.P. Mike Perez!

  • " WHAT A HOLE IN THE FABRIC OF HUMANITY WAS LEFT WITH THE PASSING OF THIS TALENTED SOUL" ... R.I.P. STEVE GOODMAN.... GOD'S TRUE GIFT TO THIS EARTH!

  • " THIS MAN WAS SOOOOOO GREAT "!!!

  • RIP Steve and Ron, 2 guys with the biggest hearts. Go Cubs!

  • I am a CUBS fan. And if I could this song will be played when the time comes for my send off. The CUBBIES are #1 in my book. Thanks Ron. RIP my friend.

  • I may be a Cards fan but this shows heart

  • what is a championship without heart, oh yea the yankees, or an LA team!

  • @DaddyGabby ...The Cubbies got soul. Something my Dodgers seemed to have misplaced. What a sweet song by a real artist. R.I.P Ron

  • @DaddyGabby LMFAO ive a friend thats a dodgers fan diehard. as am i to the cubs. im sending this to him

  • Cubs suck ass.

  • @MrBigBEARHUNTER

get a life, if you don't like the cubs, fine, but no reason you have to come to cubs videos and be a hater. Love your team more than you hate ours

    R.I.P. Ron

  • At least the Cubs HAVE won 2 world series.. There are about 10 teams tht havent won the world series..

  • @LuvsSP if you don't remember seeing them win the championship then why does it matter to you?

  • Go away blango882. Your casual use of profanity regarding the Cubs, their passionate fans, songwriters and their organization is best used, by you, somewhere else. You qualify as an asshole for even commenting on this song/topic and WHY WERE YOU WATCHING THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE?!? Go away and, as you said, you "have plenty of time to watch your team and hate the cubs." Sorry your life is so unsatisfactory that you have time to..."hate the Cubs." Poor you man.

  • WOW I think it's kind of funny how someone with so much hate spends so much time trying to explain why he hates. If I was one of Steve's 3 children I would feel sorry for you. But I'm not one of his children. Steve's family should be ultimately proud of the music he created. I'm proud to have something in common with Steve. I'll never leave a game without singing GO CUBS GO. "And stay away from the North Side blango882 your not welcome here."

  • @cubbies6738 i have plenty of time to watch my team and hate the cubs. this song is about how the cubs suck and haven't done shit in over 100 years. your team is known world wide for being LOSERS. maybe u should learn something from this song and all of the other cubs fans that died without seeing their team accomplish anything, and pick a new team.

  • @blango882 Dude seriously? Do you have nothing better to do? Not only that but this song was written by a dying cubs fan (the guy had leukemia) so knock that off, it's not nearly as funny as your half ass sense of humor must think it is. The cubs have had bad luck and aren't the best team but they have heart, from the ivy wall to home plate. And heart is what makes the cubs so amazing (it also seems to be something you are lacking) .

  • @ljtjrose sorry, didnt realize that some weed growing on a wall meant that a team has heart. maybe if your overpaid underachievers had some heart then they would win a few more games. and does heart really matter for a team? i would rather have championships then heart. and if the cubs are "amazing" what does a team have to do to be bad?

  • @blango882 have less than 10,000 fans show up to the games and that shit never happens at Wrigley the Greatest ballpark

  • RIP Steve, Ronnie. Let's play some ball, opening day in 3 days...

  • haha, almost 30 years later and nothing has changed. god the cubs suck. gotta love it.

  • @blango882 why don't you spend time focusing on your own team instead of hating the cubs? Do you seriously have nothing better to do?

  • For Rick Pearson, a Cub fan until the day he died. RIP Rick, thanks for helping make me a Cubs fan

  • go cubs!. anybody with this genuine fellow on thier side got to have some kind of drag with the big guy. thank god for unrequited love because otherwise whose listening. life long red sox fan.

  • 14 dislikes???????????

  • Good bye, Ron, and Hello, Keith! No more dropping routine fly balls for Keith...he can report them to us as we cheer our favorite team...

  • rip ron. . .memories of a time you personally brought my sick brother a pizza from your pizzaria ill never ever forget it. hit a homer in heaven bro

  • I hate the Cubs, but i had forgotten about this song when santo passed steve goodman makes great music

  • Have Keith Moreland drop a routine fly.

  • Pitchers and catchers report today. Go Cubs!

  • It's gonna be GREAT to have a Cub's fan as mayor. GO RAHM!!!

  • Kudos to Mike Leonard for this interview.

  • RIP Steve Goodman.....gone too young.

  • me and my family were close to ron and the santo's, i'm 14 i cried for days when he died.

    #10 for life

  • Steve was sure a fine guitar player. I know he was better known for his writing, but he could keep up with the best of them with his playing.

  • From a Reds fan, Rest in Peace, Ron Santo... and Steve Goodman.

  • @redparrot61 Born and raised a Reds fan, and love Steve's music. Fondly remember Ron Santo.

  • #10

  • RIP in Ronnie summers in Chicago will no longer be the same with out hearing you on the radio during Cubs broadcasts but I know when we finally win the big one you will let a huge Allllllllll Riggggggggggght Harry will let out a huge Cubs Win Cubs Holy Cow and Jack will say Hey Hey Holy Mackeral.

  • RIP RON. HAVE FUN UP IN THE REAL HALL OF FAME

  • @bearsfcool You are right. F*&^ the BBWA for not voting him in.

  • Rip #10

    Now you really a santo

Going to be weird not hearing your voice while I'm at work listening on day games.

    Fan 1st broadcaster 2nd

    Sox fan

  • God Bless you Ron we will miss you RIP

  • Hey Ron , Don't let Harry and Jack take you for to much angel dust (money) playing gin. Rest in Peace . God has a new angel and he plays third base.

  • This one's for Ron!

  • God bless Ron Santo

  • *sigh* RIP Ronny #10. Greatest Baseball Hero for Those in Chicago.

  • My thoughts are with all you Santo fans. What a terrible loss for the Cubs. Ron's announcing of Cubs games on the radio and his dedication to the Cubs was really something. He truly enjoyed the Cubs and like GIl Hodges has been disrespected by the Vets Committee of the Hall of Fame for too long!

  • Boy, this song really does have a new meaning listneing to it now after ronnie is gone... RIP #10, we'll all miss you!!! :-(

  • R.I.P Ronnie. Growing up I had two heros. My Dad and Ron Santo. Now they are both gone and the world will never be the same.

  • RIP #10.

  • Goodbye Ronnie. I can still remember when you and Hubbs were the boys. You are together again now and God has an all Cubs double play combo. Rest in Peace. Like the great Tex Winter you will both probably make the HoF. It won't decrease the enjoyment of future generations. But, it will be sad not to see you on the stage in Cooperstown. Maybe they will be smart enough that Tex will be around for his induction.

  • The sun will be shining a bit brighter down that Wrigley third base line from now on. Take care, Ronnie.

  • RIP, Ronnie and Steve. Hope you're having a good night up there tonight.

  • Ill miss that old voice of Your's, Ron, when i listen to the Cubbies. Ill be seeing you sometime up there on that field of angels...Rest in peace my friend.

  • We'll miss you Ron.

  • Take care of Ronnie, Steve

  • Ron Santo 1940-2010. This song chokes me up even more today than it ever has.

  • This one's for Ron, "Go Cubs Go".

  • I don't need my pocket radio anymore. Thanks for the good times Ron. We'll miss your passion.

  • RIP #10. We will see you click your heels again...

  • Ron was hero to a lot of us in many ways. He always held his head high and could give you that smile you expected from him. He will always be remembered .

  • RIP Ronnie this song is fitting

  • 14 people don't understand a true baseball team

  • Hard to believe Steve's been gone for over 26 years. Still one of my favorite songs which he wrote and made famous by David Allen Coe is "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" (aka "You Don't Have To Call Me Darlin"). As Steve put it, it was the perfect country & western song.

  • Steve Goodman is the best folk singer EVER

  • hd28guy1 you said it all and with alot of meaning. RIP Steve!

  • GO CARDINALS!!!

  • @MrStlbaseball SCREW YOU AND THE SHITTY CARDINALS

  • @MrStlbaseball fuck the cards

  • This was filmed shortly before Steve's death after a long-time battle with Leukemia...the irony was that he passed not long before the Cubs finally won the division in 1984...he was a great songwriter, and a Chicago Treasure...

  • I'm not a cubs fan, but Steve sure knows how to put a great baseball song together. I always get misty when I hear this song cause I sure miss Steve a lot.

  • this is a great video and i hate to admit but i sat and cried yesterday when they announced quade as new manager cause to me it is another 2 lost years

  • I am a hugh Yankees fan, but this has to be one of the greatest baseball songs of all-time. Go Cubs. Win the World Series soon!!!!!

  • @hd28guy1 This guys little finger? Why do you say that? That's weird. I guarantee if this "GUY" wasn't dying then you wouldn't be saying "THIS GUYS LITTLE FINGER". That's just gay right there.

  • when was this recorded?? i love it so much.....Such a great singer/songwriter - love it!

  • they're going to play this at my funeral.

  • @RudesterX ...why not--they play it every year for the Cubs....

  • classic. what a great video! love that he's playing on Waveland over looking Wrigley. Awesome, the perfect setting for this song.

  • RIP Steve and Harry some day you'll win one. I am 66 and a lifelong Cardinal fan. But, I would give up a championship for you guys. You have earned it with your long time support of the team. I hope it is before Ron and Ernie pass they deserve to walk in glory.

  • @john9944 you said it man, RIP Ron.

  • Bahahahahahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! --- Mhmmph......mhmmph....hmmph...... bahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! ROFL! LMAO!

  • They'll win a championship the day their fans care more about the game than their beers and khaki shorts... that is, never.

  • All I gotta say is when the cubs win the world series,Cubs Fans Will be the proudest people in the world.

  • Sucks to be a Cubs fan.

  • Beautiful. It's a shame that his music isn't better known. He's a real treasure that left us too soon.

  • MAnager , Next! WHo wants to fail!

  • heard this on the way to the cardinals game about 2 days ago its hilarious!

  • @GoldSilverMoneySkull Hilarious? Cardinal fan huh? Says a lot about you people. You find a song hilarious that the guy wrote about himself. Steve Goodman is the Dying Cub fan ignorant douche.

  • @billoose i don't think its funny that he was a cubs fan and that he was dieing, i think its funny that a cubs fan would say this, i just don't like the dieing part, always next year, right?

  • @GoldSilverMoneySkull I'm a cub fan and didn't take offence to what you said. It is lighthearted. It is bloody funny no matter how dark the subject matter truly is.

One of the great baseball songs.

  • I'm so happy that he's going to be honored in the Wrigleyville neighborhood by having the post office at Southport and Irving Park named after him. Previous Cub ownership really would not have allowed that to happen, partially due to this song! But honestly, it's the very best Cub song ever, because it captures the spirit so well! :-)

  • @JeansGlobalVillage If you listen closely to the recording, you'll hear the CTA El train passing by a couple of times.....

  • STFU!

  • I know this is a sad song but a prevailing 30 mile an hour southwest wind is funny

  • go cardinals supplying excellence to the central division for over 100 yrs

  • @YourOpinionIsWr0ng central division is 17 years old artard

  • @multiversalpictures well whoopdy F'n doo you still suck at baseball while we still are a better baseball organization than you could ever dream to be
