Slavery was an issue and was one of the minor reasons why the South wanted it's own nation. It may have not been the main issue, but it was still apart of it all and the biggest change that came from it was the ending of it.

This is why I dislike the south more than the north cause of the hate not saying that everyone in the south hates but if you lived in the north and the south now you would understand the difference. Not all but some confederates just want revenge and you need to understand that those so Yankees are not alive now. So stop focusing on the past and look to the future. I love to see people show respect and admiration to their heritage, but we need to avoid the contempt that we may feel which comes in defense of that admiration. May we all learn from those who lived before us and understand their causes. Yet make sure to let go of any anger we may feel from that and leave their conflicts with them, as dead.

The war may have been a hundred fifty years ago, but the difference is still there. Too many Northerners think that the South is just a bunch of inbred hicks, and while there are some, that's just the worst who don't deserve the right to call themselves Rebels. I've known real white trash and real ignorant hicks, and one, that's not all there is to the South. Two, they're in so many more places too.

I'm from the north and I dig this song. In my opinion, the Confederate States symbolize liberty more than the union. How holier-than-thou was the North, to put itself up on a pedestal, and force the South to join with them? The North essentially said, "You must join my club or I will go to war with you." An individual should not be forced to associate with anyone he disagrees with and the same should go for any group of people. The South were the real liberty lovers. The North were just bullies.

The North was pretty harsh towards the South after the war.Andrew Johnson refused to punish the South.He wasn't really a bad president, he was outraged that the Congress and the senate ( which at the time was dominated by radical republicans from the north) was willing to execute every one who had any involvement with the Confederate secession from the U.S., just to protect the newly emancipated slaves.Reconstruction never ended, it was just painted with money and forgotten.

It's based on a Constitution that includes significant checks and balances to avoid the tyranny of the majority. @jamesbyrum1979 I am confused cause I can understand the south wanting to receed from the U.S, and become a solo nation, but the confederate army did attack fort sumter first, and that was A undeclared act of war against the U.S and it's military which sparked the war. But I can understand the north did not fully understand the south, and made unfair laws for the poor, and farm workers and other businesses.

Anyhow, I'm honestly not on either side anymore. So many lives were lost all so the south could not have it's own nation. What a senseless war. I believe slavery would have faded away on it's own.
However, that doesn't mean I side with the South. I can't support a system that were fighting for their own freedom all while denying it to others.

Most historians agree that if there was no slavery, there would have been no war.
Slavery was an issue and was one of the minor reasons why the South wanted it's own nation. It may have not been the main issue, but it was still apart of it all and the biggest change that came from it was the ending of it.

@TheBoberton - Slavery was a minor issue to most people back then during the war, but if the Union lost, slavery in the south would have kept going on so it did have a big after effect.
Not everyone was raised about slavery by the way. I cannot compare people to cars. Also, even by 1800's standards, slavery was consider immoral and outdated by many so even if I was around in the 1800's, I would have felt that way just as many others did.
