The G body Montes was the best i believe i have a 85 Monte Carlo SS with a pontiac 455ci and 400 turbo tranny. By far my favorite car i have ever owned.

Procharged 387 stroker, cold air intake, 8.5 inch posi rear (From the Grand National), 150 duel shot of nitros, custom front suspension, and 6-piston disc brakes. Looks stock from the outside and handles GREAT for an old boat.
i got a 84 ss and put a 327 in it...the only problem with that is now i dont have any power steering bacause of the camel back heads lol!! but she runs dam good..i beat a 400 sbc a few weeks ago lol!!!
@doogaman77 if you just removed the power steering belt your arms are gonna fall off. Pull a manual steering box out of a mid 80 something S10 use the arm and all. It works good. I picked one up at Crazy Rays for 27 bucks.
@doogaman77 I put a manual box in mine. I have seen them on Ebay for around 80 bucks. I picked one up at the local you pick it bone yard for 27. It works well going in a straight line. You have to turn the steering wheel more cause of the different ratio. It's a little set back if you had set your car up to run in the twisty's. For drag racing they hold up better than the flamming river boxes. I heard several racers tell me if your car wheelies they tend to break on the landing.
my dad has an 84 grand prix it has a simaliar body but i think the monte carlo ss s look a bit better he is dropping a 454 big block in it im sure it will go pretty good once he cleans it up a bit and saves some money up for a bit of aftermarket parts great video all my dad has done to his car is ripped out all interior thrush dual exhaust formula 1 slicks in back and cragar ss rims + edelbrock cab system thats not very much but its a start!

me and my dad just built a 85 mont carlo ss with a pretty wild 462 big block, we just took it to the track and it was running 11 flat all day long, but when the sun went down we were running 10.70, but now he wants to trade it for a 70 camaro z28 split bumper, =(
The people that put 25"rims on these cars don't realize that doing that slows the car down and the fastest you can go safetly is 80mph otherwise above those massive rims are fucked as they can't handle higher speed. Then they put a 600hp engine in it which is fucked up. Why have they much hp if you can't use it to its full potential.

well i pulled the 305 just doing some cleaning up in the engine compartment. its going smoothly so far. im trying to get clips of the whole process and maybe post a vid. is the black ss yours?
@MrVicarious666 I use to have an 87 SS Aerocoupe, real sweet, did a swap to a 350, then did big cams and long tubes, bores and everything, ended up with 528hp and 585 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

EXACTLY !!! i got a 88 s.s. all original except a k&n air filter, c.d. player, and car alarm.. got it repainted tripple gloss black, left the stripeing, badgeing off so its just all clean black, with some black outs on the front lghts.. got a bigger set of tires in the back over the stock size cause of the rain handleing... i love these g-body cars... also got a 87 g.n. im trying to restore to look as good as the monte..

i have a buddy that has a 1987 monte carlo ss with a 383stroker and a 700r4 tranny with 18inch iroc's and the 700r4 tranny holds up with a 3500stall converter just fine,the 383 is pushing close to 500hp

Yes, you are correct. Putting a warmed up 350 in a Monte is the car that Chevy should have built. You have to be careful in spending your money because you will have to upgrade your tranny and rear for anything over 300hp. I had destroyed both.
The 80s g bodies are all win. I think the Pontiac got kind of shortchanged, and the 180 hp 305s definately need swapped but my 86 monte ss had a 300 hp 350 in it and it hauled ass but good

that body style ran 83-88. I paid 6grand for my 87 with 88k miles on it, cherry,bone stock,numbers matching.Consider the transmission,if anything.Interior parts are disappearing fast.
I ran a Crane Compucam 2040,58cc Vette heads,with stock intake/hooker headers,Flowmaster exhaust ,and a Hypertech chip in the L69 305.With a little weight reduction, some nice tires,and a TH-350, it ran a best of 13.2 before i eat up the main bearings in front of a Corvette at 127k miles.Then yes, I put a built a 350 to put in . I took the computer out at the same time....but don't sell the L69 short, they can be made to perform well.And NOBODY will believe you that it's a 305!
A turbo V6 has more potential than a V8 motor. I have had both, nothing compares to forced induction. The Buick Grand National is a Beast. My buddies with his 1970 Chevelle with a 454 is still in amazement at how bad I beat him.

yeah i got a 88 ss all original... only put a cd player, K&N air filter, and a viper alarm.. my 87 gn has some mods, but is under construction right now...lol.. and people ask me what i like better.. and i tell them its a toss up... i love the body lines and look of a black ss, love the v-8 sound.. speed yeah its ok and hold its own.. but the g.n. just has that neck breaking torqe and power... i loved the g.n. and monte since i was a kid, and now i got both, so im happy.

actually theres a super rare car called the Monte carlo turbo, similar to the gn, i heard about it on wiki, although turbo powered v6s are great, full efficient, reliable, and it had alot of torque, what you could do with a small block v8 could surpass a v6

Would you reccomend buying a 1985 or 89 Monte Carlo SS with the original engine, 130,000 miles for arounf $5000

that body style ran 83-88. I paid 6grand for my 87 with 88k miles on it, cherry,bone stock,numbers matching.Consider the transmission,if anything.Interior parts are disappearing fast.

I ran a Crane Compucam 2040,58cc Vette heads,with stock intake/hooker headers,Flowmaster exhaust ,and a Hypertech chip in the L69 305.With a little weight reduction, some nice tires,and a TH-350, it ran a best of 13.2 before i eat up the main bearings in front of a Corvette at 127k miles.Then yes, I put a built a 350 to put in . I took the computer out at the same time....but don't sell the L69 short, they can be made to perform well.And NOBODY will believe you that it's a 305!

A turbo V6 has more potential than a V8 motor. I have had both, nothing compares to forced induction. The Buick Grand National is a Beast. My buddies with his 1970 Chevelle with a 454 is still in amazement at how bad I beat him.

a gn turbo 6 will be a monte 305 anyday
but people rip those out and drops 350s or 327s in them which can pump out a lot more power
those end up raping the nationals lol

dude... all u need is a chip a exhaust, a adjustable waste gate and that national will ripp a 350 to shreds.... i have a 88 monte ss and a 87 buick g.n...... the g.n. is a little lighter with the v-6.... i got a stage 3 suspension in the natty, bigger inlet on the turbo, chip, exhaust, cold air intake and ill take a stock 350 on any fuckin day...

ill agree with you... 327 is a bad ass motor.. had them in the 1st gen camaro's that were eaten up the 350's.... ok put it this way..... in 1987, what would u put ur money on, a 1987 gn or a 1987 corvette with a 350 ?.....

my monte has a 305, modded out good though...high 14s
good for a 305 if ya ask me
cause those motors are usually 16 sec. dogs

yeah i got a 88 ss all original... only put a cd player, K&N air filter, and a viper alarm.. my 87 gn has some mods, but is under construction right now...lol.. and people ask me what i like better.. and i tell them its a toss up... i love the body lines and look of a black ss, love the v-8 sound.. speed yeah its ok and hold its own.. but the g.n. just has that neck breaking torqe and power... i loved the g.n. and monte since i was a kid, and now i got both, so im happy.

I think they should have put 383 Strokers in Monte Carlos from the Factory. 305 v8's were not enough.

actually theres a super rare car called the Monte carlo turbo, similar to the gn, i heard about it on wiki, although turbo powered v6s are great, full efficient, reliable, and it had alot of torque, what you could do with a small block v8 could surpass a v6

i have a 86 to i wouldn't get rid of it for nuthin...its kinda down right now getting engine rebuilt it has a 327 with holley dominator intake, stage 3 shift kit and mickey thompson headers the headers for it were hard to find...

Thanks! I am still working on my 86 Monte. I broke something in the 330hp GM Performance Engine and I am waiting for my Smeding Performance 383 crate engine. It should be here the middle of next week. Maybe I have to post another Monte vid.
