Saw this on Friday Night Video on NBC in the early 80's. Was

bizzarre then, and time hasn't reduced that fact. Great song and video though!!

I worked on this video. It was shot, as Tom says at the top, at the Chi Chi Club on Broadway in San Francisco.

The "dummy" is Val Diamond, the longtime star of the Beach Blanket Babylon revue. It was directed by Chris Blum, who would later direct the Waits concert film "Big Time," which I also worked on.

During a break, I found myself near Tom, and I summoned up the courage to tell him that he was a big influence on my own music.

"Oh yeah? That's great," he said. "Got a marimba in the band?"
