I actually liked the version for the ds. I'm kinda upset I don't have it anymore. It was a game I could play for hours on endless mode. Prolly one of the only good ones for a videogame console out there in my opinion.

For some reason when I do this move on my cell phone tetris game it doesn't recognize it as a t spin, normally it will say "t spin double" or single. It doesn't say anything when I do it.

WIth Tetris ( I-tetrimino - 4 lines ) you send 4 lines.

With single T-Spin you send 4 lines

WIth double T-Spin you send 6 lines

With triple T-Spin you send 8 lines

you're either rotating the block the wrong way you're not pressing the right direction while rotating. what you're doing is called a "wall kick" which is useful at high levels of the game where the blocks come down way too fast for you to position them properly.
