your carpet is a slow feeder. my irian jaya jaguar eats within moments of the food item being dropped in her cage. and she's only 39" long. and she eats finches & rats
That rat sensed/felt fear--he died a terrible death. He tried to get away--and did--rats are intelligent. Until you cruellly knocked him back. You--the big brave snake owner had NO compassion. What goes around comes around: in your next life time you'll come back as a rat fed to be fed by another heartless snake owner to an efficient predator (I've no qualms with the snakes). May you then feel this same helpless fear.
its allegal here, if the rat starts biting the snake, the snake can get very hurt and the rat getting fed alive is VERY cruel. and when u pushed it back in u made me VERY annoyed that people think its ok, DONT FEED IT LIVE RATS!!!
i dont like to see rats die because i lvoe them but i have to feed them aswell to mine but i dont do it live because my python isnt as clever as yours because it eats frozen ones if they eat only live then there more clever but cool video:D:D
You could have cut out the 2 and a half minutes of absolute bilge, also I'd recommend feeding fresh killed/frozen thawed if you value the health and safety of your carpet.
Kudos to the rat. Should have rewarded it by taking it out and putting in a relative. But no, his reward is being turned into a snack. Beautiful snake.
And hes a gorgeous snake, but did u notice it took him almost 3 minutes to grab the rat ? eating patterns unlike any carpet ive ever seen, usualy they go n GRAB em very quickly
That was inteeeeeeeense. When it jumped out of the cage I was like, "WHAT THE FUCK!!!! After that happened I would have been like... OH NO! I would have let the rat live hahaha. I feed mine pre-killed stuff. I can't do live =/ It would break my gf's heart.
@Sterling1426 if you couldnt tell within 3 seconds of this video starting that it was forced into that corner for feeding, idk what to say....
and there are PLEEEENTY of people who keep their reptiles in cages that size with zero issues, and if thats a 7ft Carpet im pretty sure the width is more than 12inches....
@tarheelfan3 no joke mine's hitting 5.5 ft and you can't tell!!!!! at least until they start growing outward and wider around 3 years. Carpets are rad, just wish I knew if mine was male or female.
Nice snake, yes frozen mice are the best choice but when you don't have that option you can always give em a good ole smack on the head instant death. That is if the person is a pussy and barely whack em, then they suffer. And i agree look for a larger cage.
beautiful snake but it needs a bigger enclosure. also it is very very dangerous for the snake to feed it live. not only could the rat bite the snake, but also live rats can carry diseases that you wouldn't find in frozen rats
nice animal no doubt, but this cage is a joke...to keep a 7ft snake in a cage that big especially when its a carpet which are compared to other snakes like really active is in my opinion close to animal cruelty sorry but that is not the way this beauty shoul be kept
Kid is an idiot...small cage....live food....this snake is fucked. I try to explain the rat can (even while being constricted) bite the snake) Just break the rats neck or buy frozen rats....Wtf is so hard about that? Shit.
you should not feed live as if the snake doesent eat it the rat/mouse may end up eating the snake im not jokeing it does happen i have pythons i never feed live rodents oh also very nice python!.
its still a good idea to kill the rat first. During constriction the rat can inflict a bit on the snake causing nasty infections or worse. Its a quicker death for the rat as well.
How is your carpet's temperment? I am getting one soon either way. I have a 6 foot boa right now.
ummm just would like to say.. do you go around killing all the prey items for snakes to eat pre killed out in the wild??? noooo?? oh wow look at that they can eat things without you killing it for them!!!!
not trying to be a jerk.. i just get sick of people saying don't feed live.. as long as you watch them.. and as long as you take the rat or whatever it is out of cage if the snake doesn't eat it.. you will be fine.. they are BUILT TO KILL!
@YargDisease as long as the snake grabs the prey at the nexk or head there should be no problem, if you had a snake thats an ass grabber than you have a snake gettting bit problem
that snake is gorgeous, these r ancient dinosaurs, imagine wat their ancestors looked like a million years ago 0_0 <333 My Jcp , i dun c animal cruelty, they gotta eat like we do too,
You can argue the live feed cruelty argument until you`re blue in the face, the fact is, some people have gone out and bought a snake because they want to watch it kill something, they aren`t interested enough in the snake alone, they need the killing, it`s the main event for them.
To answer your question... Pre-killing is quicker (when done properly of course) and less stressful for the animal. Another difference is the possibility of the snake being attacked by the rat. Another difference is the possibility of the snake picking up internal parasites. With frozen rats/mice this won't happen. Feeding live is actually illegal where I come from, as it is recognised by law as being unnecessarily cruel.
Just because a person disagrees with you does not mean their message is spam. Or, indeed, that they are a simpleton. I hold a masters degree so am far from a simpleton, for example.
Spam is an entirely different phenomenon, Perhaps you should check a dictionary????
PS: I never questioned the snakes morals.... just yours!?!"?! Why feed live???? Responsible herps feed frozen as less cruel and less risk to the snake...... Google it if you don't believe me!
thumbs down and spam for you because of your simpleton comment.
They feed live in the wild and so it's still instinct for them to eat in captivity, it's not like they have a fridge in the desert with frozen ras in there for when they fancy one.....IDIOT!!!!
Has to be a big female or an enormous male.

No need to use live food CO2 gassing is the most humane option and if the snakes are raised with it they know no different and are unbothered

feeding frozen/thawed is a better choice because
1. frozen rats cant bite or injure your snake
2. if your snake doesnt eat your not stuck with a live rat you can just refreeze it
3. YES freezing a rat kills all internal parasites so you dont have to worry about diseases for your snake

just to let you know thats stupid. A live rat has just as many diseases ON THE INSIDE as a live. Freezing doesn't kill all of the diseases.

by your logic Ill shove my snakes in a box with no heating source and let them find the live rats at the pet store alone.
No heat pads/lights in the wild. Or vivs.
Captivity means you have the choice to alter the animal's surroundings including their meals. For better of for worse.
