Awesome vid. Good pics. Woulda been cool to see a fade of the music and the car idling on a street before a launch down the road as the video ended :P
Nice paint job. May I ask why just the plain white paint and grapevine wheels though? Looks a bit on the plain side to me but that is just my opinion, I'm more of a restomod, bright paint, larger wheels kind of guy. Still nice resto though. Original hipo 289? I'm just redoing the engine in mine, had a 302 4bbl and gonna slap in a 351w thats been bored and stroked out to 408 cubic inches, should have about 425 horsepower and 375 ft./lbs of torque
He worked full time @ a body shop for several years , but about 15 years ago, He started a new job and since then he has just painted a few cars for family.
Thanks for the compliment , I'll pass it along to Lil' Bro.
$7k is a fairly accurate guess for a paint and body work, if that's what you are referring to here. Typically it will start around $5k and can go up to over $12k+ for paint and body and materials. I just got my 65 fastback done for around $4k and am happy with it. Nice car though man. I guess i'm just not into stock looking mustangs or plain white for that matter. I was going to go that route but retromods usually bring in more money. stock looking mustangs usually are around the low $20k's
Man, sweet car!! Wish I had a fastback; But I wouldn't trade my '66 coupe for anything, not after all the time and effort I've put in it. I was documenting my restoration with hundreds of pictures, but my didgital camera (with all of the pictures before I took the Mustang apart still on it) was stolen from my SUV. So now I have no before pictures of it and this is my first car restoration.
The best advise I can give you is to document everything , Take pics of everything before you take it apart ,..then buy about a thousand ziplock bags and then bag and tag every nut, bolt, screw or clip....
You wont remember where it came from when it comes time to reassemble.
Remember:
"Great things are accomplished only by the perfection of minor details"
nice car, i have a '65 fastback too. Same color, lots of GT parts, no a/c though. Mine needs paint, have some to spare? Seriously, nice ride dude! Long live the 'Stang!!!
Henry got the shape soooo right is the early fastbacks. I just can't believe Ford could put the badge on the mid '70's to '90's cars. Did someone loose their marbles or what? The eternal shame is that Chev kept the look of their lesser corvette. :0(
Ya know, I took the trouble start sucking air on 16 June (thanks Mommy), got the nick name Horrible Henry before age 5(from the candy store lady) and started out loving early 70's Boss 'stangs. Then I thought the '69's were cool. Then..... arrrh, the 67-68 nose and tail!!! Mmmmmmph! Now, the tail of the 1st fastbacks has be making demands of my love. My question is... is this a normal(?) progression of a Ford destiny? P.S. My wife is hot coz she loves early '60's Mustangs.... Bliss.......
Very nice job man, I have a question, I own a 1964, 170.both of the horns work when we give it 12 volts but I believe its the switch because it doesnt work from the stering wheel, anyway I could get it working again?
Thank you for the compliment...Your problem is most likely the sitch or the contacts under the horn ring, I would start by removing the horn ring and jumping those contacts, if that doesnt make them work I would remove and replace the entire turn signal switch. Note: The '64 generator cars used a different switch than the '65 alternator cars. If a previous owner put in a 65 switch, it wont work.
As stated by Audiolabguy there really isnt a front clip, just fenders that bolt to the inner fenders. The photos are in somewhat chronological order. The engine and transmission work was done over the winter of 2005-06, I then drove the car over the summer 2006 and then the body and interior was refreshed over winter 2006-07. I finished just in time for the MCA Nationals in Louisville, which is where the show pics at the end were taken
Doesn't make a lick of difference, since Mutangs are unitbody, there is no "front clip" as you'd have with a typical chasssis/frame construction.
The inner fender aprons are welded to the firewall in the back and radiator support in the front.
Ive owned 7 first generation Mustangs over the years, and trusst me...I WISH there was aa front clip to pull, would make the whole process of pulling the motors aa lot easier. Can get pretty tight when youve got the tranny still bolted up.
wow awesome garage dude, wish i had a garage that big at home, i'm restoring my 1966 fastback in a retired carshop 2 blocks from where i live and that's nice and all too but still it'dd be more fun if i could do it at home
Pretty nice.

do yu mind if i ask how much money yu put in2 restoration?
TheSwaggaLike 1 year ago
@TheSwaggaLike Its hard to say
1. Ive owned the car since 1985
2. Ive got alot of parts as Cristmas and birthday gifts over the years
3. I used to work for a Mustang shop and got alot of parts wholesale
4. All the work except exhaust and a new windshield was done by Me, My Dad and my Brother in the family garage.
5, If you were to buy all those parts and painting material retail , Im guessing @ $10,000. But speard that out over 25 years. Its not too bad
Thanks for the compliment!!

wouldn't putting the motor in be easier if you just put it in before you put the front clip on
instead of muscling it in like that and risk damaging something
