Worst battle system in jrpg is FF14's by far!! Too much happening on the screen and just general chaos with player pressing buttons like a downie. Lost Odyssy's battle system is just perfect. Like it was back in the day with most jrpgs. Why cant FF go back to this simpler and much more enjoyable fighting system?
All the info you need on herbs you can see when you pull up the menu, LOL @ 2:34 and 4:08 (somebody apparently doesn't have good timing). You can fully customize your charactor with new weapons and accessories, there are about a million different combo's of skills and spells that each charactor can learn, try playing through at least the first disc, then you'll understand how truely awesome of a game this is.
Oh, and who actually plays it in english? Japanese w/ english subs is the way to go!

I just got my 360. I own a PS3 and i own FF13. I didnt like it. I actually stopped playing it. This makes it the 2nd final fantasy game in all its library that i decided to abandoned. I always wanted to play Lost Odyssey, and when i finally got my 360, i immediately went out and bought it.
I like the random fights and the style. It feels oldschool. Plus, the 1,000 years of memories that get triggered when you talk to people make the game seem more epic. I love the story of the lying girl.
What is it with people who bash turn-based combat? I would rather have that, and a great game than (lets say) FFXIII's combat and have it be just a long cutscene and a few battles. We're not asking you to change the game's combat! Stop trying to please everybody. Only the hardcore fans will follow you to the death. All of the others who you tried to please will eventually leave, and the hardcore fans would have left due to the attempt at trying to "revolutionize" the combat system. /endrant
After playing FFVII and FFX every subsequent RPG has invariably left me disappointed. Lost Odyssey is not a bad game by any means, but the characters were rather one-dimensional and instantly forgettable generic JRPG-archetypes (the amnesic, the comic-relief, all the usual JRPG-personalities are present and all too familiar). The battle-system is also too slow and dull and the customization of weapons is shallow, and the level-progression is almost as linear as FFXIII, with nary exploration.

To everyone who says this game is the best RPG on the Xbox 360, does that include Infinite Undiscovery? Because I'm trying to figure out if I should get this game and I loved Infinite Undiscovery... So if you think this is better than IU then it must be amazing! I didn't play Final Fantasy XIII by the way, and I probably won't. Just want to know because I'm hearing some good things about this game... In the comments anyway. Most of the professional reviews call it "nothing special".

Lost Odyssey is pretty good: it has a great, entertaining story and a fantastic soundtrack, but honestly everything else is mediocre. I'd still buy it though. Infinite Undiscovery is one of my favorite games ever for some reason. I'd def. say it's worth a purchase. The game starts off.... less then spectacular but once you're a few hours in you'll love it

I played this game when it was first released and its one of my favourite games. And overall I have to disagree with everything you said. The ring bonus is very simple and easy to get into...yet in all the video you showed you did not hit a single bonus. Was it on purpose to demonstrate how boring and sad you were that it didn't add the depth to the combat that you were hoping for and to back up your point?
..pick this up if your a fan of the game-play and love a great story...

I'd easily give this game a 9.8/10 my only complaint is they didnt give a ton of DLC for me to blow my money on. But they seriously need to make a Lost Odyssey 2, wouldve much more wanted that over gay FF13.

This is an excellent game, with a beautiful story that has it's tearjerker moments (so bring tissues). It does have flaws however.
1. Not enough Save Points. Is it so damn hard to put multiple save points in a dungeon so I don't have to leave my xbox on in between play sessions? Some of these dungeons are long.
2. Boss fights are generally poorly balanced. First few bosses are stupidly difficult (para-flare anyone?) but later bosses become laughably easy.
3. Not being able to increase the speed of battle (cutting out the graphics for OMEGAPOWERED ATTACK OF DOOM) is annoying, but random-battle encounters during puzzles is even worse. It is so annoying when you are trying to figure out what to do in an area or solve a puzzle in a dungeon, and you get attacked randomly. When you get out of the battle, you forget what you were doing.) Although this is a problem with most turn-based RPGs, that comes with the genre.
i cant wait to play lost odyssey 2... i didnt like ff13.. this is way better. i personaly think lost odyssey is the best rpg so far for the xbox 360. 10/10
This is an amazing game, one of the best RPGs for the 360 right now. I admit I didnt like this game at first, but after giving it a chance its AMAZING! especially when you get all your characters. I beat this game already, but I never unlocked all the achievements so I have to do that, but this game is really good if you want a Classic RPG game.
I've never finished LOST ODYSSEY. I should get back into it once again. And this review is a veiwpoint from someone whom dislikes the way it played out.
The biggest weakness of this game was probably the first few hours of game play. It starts off so slow that it will turn you off playing it. The load times can be frustrating at times, but if you copy the disc to your Xbox harddrive you won't have that issue.
The game has a wonderful story and I personally enjoyed the battle system. The bosses were difficult, but not too hard that they were unbeatable. The boss fights were also interested.
7.4 out of 10. Great story, but much boringness between. Too much boring fighting becoming a chore with the good parts few and far between. Wanted to like it much.
2:21 -YOU CAN change your formation and control your party AT ANY TIME during battle. Press Left on the controller and hit 'Formation'.
2:32 - When you have an item highlighted, look in the top left corner, it explains what everything is before you use it.
2:48 - When you get a variety of rings, you play the ring timing game to enhance the effects of whatever ring you have equipped and you don't have to do it.

this game is the true reason for that I bought an xbox 360, this and others, but this game was the 1st and most convincing reason, and this game is beautiful, and a great name, great story, great graphics, simple, but solid and fluid gameplay, I feel like am playing a Final Fantasy Game, well a classic final fantasy from the great Hironobu Sakaguchi who performed and created this game, simply one of the bests games in the xbox 360
1) Install the game to avoid wait times. yes, installing takes forever especially for 4 discs, but you'll thank me.
2) You can change your party formation in battle.
3) This game is an absolute gem in all respects. The ring system I love, and I love the battle system in general.
My Boyfriend said the same things as the reviewer when he first saw me playing this game. And guess what? Several months later he begged me to buy it for his birthday. And he's picky as it is. Lost Odyssey is THAT good.
I agree. I got this game with my 360 console and i kinda regret it now cause no other game lives up to it so i can't get as much out of them as i would have otherwise. This is the best game for the 360 currently available, one of the best JRPGs ever made that isn't Final Fantasy, and one of the best games ever made. (I do tend to skip the dreams though. i like to lay down if i'm reading)
I found the dreams to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the game personally. :) One of my mini-peeves with the game was that Kaim as a character was developed so well in the dream stories, however his character wasn't as interesting and compelling in the real events of the game.
ok it looks like you havent heven played 2 hours of the game. im on the third disk, once you get farther in the game it's alot better. and 5 seconds for a battle to load? it's only 5 seconds.

Japanese RPGS are dangerously getting old and tired, i use to love them way back but not anymore. I dont think i can bring myself to play FF13 i dont think i can teloerate the whole cheesiness of the game. Oh! and level grinding... thats so last century.

This game is absolutely amazing . i,ve just reached the forth disk and don't want it to end. The only thing i would change is an option of how often you encounter enemies as it can get annoying bumping into hard enemies every 15 seconds. You can always flee from battles but it doesn't always work and can result in you getting completely smashed by the enemy. Other than that its amazing and i think ill struggle to play a better game , Unless they make Shenmu 3!

Very Sweet, but it unfortunately follows VERY traditional Japanese RPS. I.E- Elemental Attacks (Flare, Flara, Flarus, Flaraga) But it is still amazing.
the really only problems is the battle system......the bosses are hard n seem to be stronger than your characters..n love the graphics..the review is right about this is like an interactive movie

I played the game and I recommend it...It has a nice story line (long but great story) 4 Disc about 10-11hrs of gameplay per disc...dont let the number of disc distract you cuz when ur done ur going to beg for more hehe!!
game is pretty boring, i just got it for free. im about 6hrs in, only good part was the boss fights but besides that its just really bland. i mean your 2 main characters can't learn any unique skills, they just take already learned skills which means u gett to see the same animations for almost every character. Plus theres no armor buying which is unheard of in an rpg, and so far i havent been able to change weapons.
The game really takes off about half-way through the first disc - which is about 5 hours in. After that the story picks up and holds your interest until the end. I actually put the game down for an entire year because I had the same issue as you, but I picked it up again and have since played it through at a fairly rapid rate.
As for the immortal skills - that will change once you get more party members. Combined with slots you can really customize your characters and party for each dungeon.

Lost oddysey made me buy 360 when first announced along Blue Dragon, i waited for it 2 years, and HELL it was a masterpiece, it made me feel like the olf good days playing ff6, 7 and 9.
Also, the comment on the Items, when you scroll over the item, it says on the top of the screen the effect of the item. You also must be EXCEPTIONALLY lazy, of holding the right trigger to align rings is a chore to you. You're comment on it being an apparent "interactive movie", it's a JRPG, they are EXTEAMLY STORY HEAVY. That's just how they are. If you don't like it, go play a shooter. Honestly, did you even play it? Because you don't seem to know whats going on. (Completing last comment)
Battles: There honestly isn't many at all. And the battle system isn't intended to be "Innovative", it's supposed to be classic and simple, alike to older JPGs. And you say you wish you could control your party more "Like you can outside of battles", outside you can change formation, weapons, rings, and equipment. In battle you can change all those things.
The fact he is immortal doesn't change basic game concepts like game-overs for example. He can still be hurt and knocked out, he just can't die. It just changes his perspective on those around him and well as creates a unique story. As the story progresses, the theme of immortals and humans really touches you in that it will make appreciate life. It's definitely a unique angle that hasn't been done before in any other RPG.

I want to know, which game is better in terms of: Fun Combats, Long Game and Lvling, and Gearing our characters between: Lost Odyssey, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant? I liked Too Human for these criterias but the game was to short.

i was playing this and i got to near the end of disk two (i think?) when im wwith the two annoing brats and i get attacked by an ice monster that looks an awful lot like the pokemon...anyay i could beat him and being the chldish gamer i am, told everyone it was a terrible game.

The first time I played this game, I was like, Woah, atlast a Epic Game for the Next Gen Console, I mean, The Story is Perfect, the soundtrack, Character Voices, battles, and graphics, they are Awesome.
This game was VERY underated, it can be in the same category as Final fantasy 7,8,9,10 and 12, and some other fantastic rpgs like Chrono Trigger and Chross.
If im missing any other games, do tell, I can be missing like 15 more rpgs lol.
I really love the tales of games....especially symphonia and phantasia, but this game missed that spark, besides...I just felt that they repeated the same formula without any interesting twists (in vesperia) and raven is a zelos-ripoff to no end X(
lost odyssey is the best game i ever played and i was playing games since i was three i love everything about it even the frustrating moments cause a game is not fun without a challenge and for the people who have not got the game if u get it i hope u like it
Mr. Worst-Voice-Actor-Ever is completely off in my opinion. Lost odyssey is one of the most epic games I've seen in my 23 years of gaming. It's up there with Final Fantasy 7 and I really don't think the battle system is boring or faulty. In fact, the battle system goes well with the game overall. If it worked any differently, you'd lose your integration with the story because it suddenly changes too much.

Infinite Undiscovery is one of my favorite games ever for some reason. I'd def. say it's worth a purchase. The game starts off.... less then spectacular but once you're a few hours in you'll love it

I played this game when it was first released and its one of my favourite games. And overall I have to disagree with everything you said. The ring bonus is very simple and easy to get into...yet in all the video you showed you did not hit a single bonus. Was it on purpose to demonstrate how boring and sad you were that it didn't add the depth to the combat that you were hoping for and to back up your point?
..pick this up if your a fan of the game-play and love a great story...

I'd easily give this game a 9.8/10 my only complaint is they didnt give a ton of DLC for me to blow my money on. But they seriously need to make a Lost Odyssey 2, wouldve much more wanted that over gay FF13.

This is an excellent game, with a beautiful story that has it's tearjerker moments (so bring tissues). It does have flaws however.
1. Not enough Save Points. Is it so damn hard to put multiple save points in a dungeon so I don't have to leave my xbox on in between play sessions? Some of these dungeons are long.
2. Boss fights are generally poorly balanced. First few bosses are stupidly difficult (para-flare anyone?) but later bosses become laughably easy.

3. Not being able to increase the speed of battle (cutting out the graphics for OMEGAPOWERED ATTACK OF DOOM) is annoying, but random-battle encounters during puzzles is even worse. It is so annoying when you are trying to figure out what to do in an area or solve a puzzle in a dungeon, and you get attacked randomly. When you get out of the battle, you forget what you were doing.) Although this is a problem with most turn-based RPGs, that comes with the genre.

This is an amazing game, one of the best RPGs for the 360 right now. I admit I didnt like this game at first, but after giving it a chance its AMAZING! especially when you get all your characters. I beat this game already, but I never unlocked all the achievements so I have to do that, but this game is really good if you want a Classic RPG game.

The biggest weakness of this game was probably the first few hours of game play. It starts off so slow that it will turn you off playing it. The load times can be frustrating at times, but if you copy the disc to your Xbox harddrive you won't have that issue.
The game has a wonderful story and I personally enjoyed the battle system. The bosses were difficult, but not too hard that they were unbeatable. The boss fights were also interested.
This is one of the best JRPG's on the Xbox.

2:21 -YOU CAN change your formation and control your party AT ANY TIME during battle. Press Left on the controller and hit 'Formation'.
2:32 - When you have an item highlighted, look in the top left corner, it explains what everything is before you use it.
2:48 - When you get a variety of rings, you play the ring timing game to enhance the effects of whatever ring you have equipped and you don't have to do it.

He does actually make some valid points, but the viewer who hasnt played the game yet, may get the impression its not as good as it really is. The game is NOT mediocre, its quite exceptional. If youre a fan of the fighting style, make sure you play this.

this game is the true reason for that I bought an xbox 360, this and others, but this game was the 1st and most convincing reason, and this game is beautiful, and a great name, great story, great graphics, simple, but solid and fluid gameplay, I feel like am playing a Final Fantasy Game, well a classic final fantasy from the great Hironobu Sakaguchi who performed and created this game, simply one of the bests games in the xbox 360

1) Install the game to avoid wait times. yes, installing takes forever especially for 4 discs, but you'll thank me.
2) You can change your party formation in battle.
3) This game is an absolute gem in all respects. The ring system I love, and I love the battle system in general.
My Boyfriend said the same things as the reviewer when he first saw me playing this game. And guess what? Several months later he begged me to buy it for his birthday. And he's picky as it is. Lost Odyssey is THAT good.

I agree. I got this game with my 360 console and i kinda regret it now cause no other game lives up to it so i can't get as much out of them as i would have otherwise. This is the best game for the 360 currently available, one of the best JRPGs ever made that isn't Final Fantasy, and one of the best games ever made. (I do tend to skip the dreams though. i like to lay down if i'm reading)

I found the dreams to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the game personally. :) One of my mini-peeves with the game was that Kaim as a character was developed so well in the dream stories, however his character wasn't as interesting and compelling in the real events of the game.
Nothing wrong with preference though. ;)

Also, you can change your party and what not. It's called Formation.
Another thing, apparently this kid is a fucking Fan-Boy due to his lack of appriciation for in-depth Story.
Final Fantasy is all about Less Story, More Teen-Angst. Go play that some more ya little shit.
When youre older, play Lost Odyssey and enjoy the major / huge story.

This game is absolutely amazing . i,ve just reached the forth disk and don't want it to end. The only thing i would change is an option of how often you encounter enemies as it can get annoying bumping into hard enemies every 15 seconds. You can always flee from battles but it doesn't always work and can result in you getting completely smashed by the enemy. Other than that its amazing and i think ill struggle to play a better game , Unless they make Shenmu 3!

Very Sweet, but it unfortunately follows VERY traditional Japanese RPS. I.E- Elemental Attacks (Flare, Flara, Flarus, Flaraga) But it is still amazing.

I played the game and I recommend it...It has a nice story line (long but great story) 4 Disc about 10-11hrs of gameplay per disc...dont let the number of disc distract you cuz when ur done ur going to beg for more hehe!!

game is pretty boring, i just got it for free. im about 6hrs in, only good part was the boss fights but besides that its just really bland. i mean your 2 main characters can't learn any unique skills, they just take already learned skills which means u gett to see the same animations for almost every character. Plus theres no armor buying which is unheard of in an rpg, and so far i havent been able to change weapons.

The game really takes off about half-way through the first disc - which is about 5 hours in. After that the story picks up and holds your interest until the end. I actually put the game down for an entire year because I had the same issue as you, but I picked it up again and have since played it through at a fairly rapid rate.
As for the immortal skills - that will change once you get more party members. Combined with slots you can really customize your characters and party for each dungeon.

Also, the comment on the Items, when you scroll over the item, it says on the top of the screen the effect of the item. You also must be EXCEPTIONALLY lazy, of holding the right trigger to align rings is a chore to you. You're comment on it being an apparent "interactive movie", it's a JRPG, they are EXTEAMLY STORY HEAVY. That's just how they are. If you don't like it, go play a shooter. Battles: There honestly isn't many at all. And the battle system isn't intended to be "Innovative", it's supposed to be classic and simple, alike to older JPGs. And you say you wish you could control your party more "Like you can outside of battles", outside you can change formation, weapons, rings, and equipment. In battle you can change all those things.

The fact he is immortal doesn't change basic game concepts like game-overs for example. He can still be hurt and knocked out, he just can't die. It just changes his perspective on those around him and well as creates a unique story. As the story progresses, the theme of immortals and humans really touches you in that it will make appreciate life. It's definitely a unique angle that hasn't been done before in any other RPG.

I personally think the "bland" battle system is part of the game's charm. Being a fan of the old school RPGs, I like simple turn based combat. Sometimes I think games try to be too "innovative," and just turn into an exceedingly complicated mess. I thought Lost Odyssey, in that regard, is a return to form for the genre.

I want to know, which game is better in terms of: Fun Combats, Long Game and Lvling, and Gearing our characters between: Lost Odyssey, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant? I liked Too Human for these criterias but the game was to short.
I don't like Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata cuz of the Characters Design...

i was playing this and i got to near the end of disk two (i think?) when im wwith the two annoing brats and i get attacked by an ice monster that looks an awful lot like the pokemon...anyay i could beat him and being the chldish gamer i am, told everyone it was a terrible game.
neeedless to say, i feel bad.
this was a fun game an i was addictively playing it for a good solid 20 hours...but that fight....that figh put me off of it.

I'd go so far as to say it is on par with it's FF cousins, maybe even better! The first time I played this game, I was like, Woah, atlast a Epic Game for the Next Gen Console, I mean, The Story is Perfect, the soundtrack, Character Voices, battles, and graphics, they are Awesome.
This game was VERY underated, it can be in the same category as Final fantasy 7,8,9,10 and 12, and some other fantastic rpgs like Chrono Trigger and Chross.
If im missing any other games, do tell, I can be missing like 15 more rpgs lol.

I really love the tales of games....especially symphonia and phantasia, but this game missed that spark, besides...I just felt that they repeated the same formula without any interesting twists (in vesperia) and raven is a zelos-ripoff to no end X(

lost odyssey is the best game i ever played and i was playing games since i was three i love everything about it even the frustrating moments cause a game is not fun without a challenge and for the people who have not got the game if u get it i hope u like it

Mr. Worst-Voice-Actor-Ever is completely off in my opinion. Lost odyssey is one of the most epic games I've seen in my 23 years of gaming. It's up there with Final Fantasy 7 and I really don't think the battle system is boring or faulty. In fact, the battle system goes well with the game overall. If it worked any differently, you'd lose your integration with the story because it suddenly changes too much.
Best JRPG in many, many years.

Well if you have the patience for impossibly hard Boss fights, which make you question the fairness of the game, then yeah.
