@HackerGuitarist actually the gain channel on this amp pretty much sucks in my opinion...really sucked! thats why i no longer own it....lol but the clean channel rocked, so i put all my effects thru the clean channel...i now own a fender twin. if you want a real marshall...buy a plexi or reissue...jcm 800...those are real marshalls in my opinion, but thats just me.
Wampler kicks major ass. I have heard a lot of dead on Edward tones out of this box on different amps. I thought the Lovepedal purple plexi cranked but this puppy burns.
Sweet Strat and after market pickups, were the SRvs too noisey? Not sure if it's just YT artifacts but some hum going on. I can't do the Eddie thing much either but I have no wish to sound like him but this box cranks. Why does that guitar have so much string plunk?
yes it is, an awesome pickup. I replaced all the stock single coils with the hotrails and got a guitar that screams and sounds better than anything I have found. I took it into the Guitar Center where I bought the set and plugged it into an Egnator full stack they had sitting there. Within a few minutes the WHOLE store, employees and customers, were gathered around me and asking "what is the world IS that?" My rockstar moment.
This gets a very good Van Halen tone, very close, maybe the closest we'll ever see until the future. I should buy this. Now the setting are adjustable, right? Or is it basically just a Brown Sound in a box? Tweaked to Ed's settings.
hello im getting a new amp either a jcm 800 900 2000 or vox ac 30 i really wanna get a nice brown sound like van halen and tight overdrive like guns n roses , kiss and ozzy ousbourne but i will also need to clean up the sound to get a jimi hendrix or pink floyd tone which amp should i get and those the jcm 800 take pedals well because it has no fx loop thanks give me opinions .
@whistlindick i haven't seen those pictures, but a variac will change the tone of your tubes, especially the older ones suck as the kt66s that were often in the old marshall plexi amps. as you crank the volume, the tubes are trying to put out the same level as they are supposed to, but can't because of the voltage drop. they're overworked and produce a much more browner sound. im not saying thats what made his tone, but it did make a difference. His playing was the major tone factor though
just bought a pinnacle reissue. Took only 4 days to get. Love it. Now if only I could play some EVH. Great playing. Would love to see what your settings are on the pedal.
@bailey32121 if you want the true Edward van Halen sound and want to go "the amp" route..try a marshall super 100...a cheaper alternatve to this would be to get a "Metro amp"...go on their website...you can buy a kit for 1000.00 and build your own "brown sound amp....check em out. Another thing is, a lot of eddy's sound is actually the way he plays...his feel and touch on the guitar...
@bailey32121 yes! bailey32121 is definitely correct. in the earlier VH albums, eddie starved the tubes to 90 volts to get that browner sound, and just cranked everything on his amp. literally everything! the majority of his tone came right from his fingertips and how he picked the strings. i've seen in videos that he presses INSANELY hard on the fretboard and holds the pick at and angle as if hes always doing a pinch harmonic. every amp he played on had HIS sound.
@apguitarguy401 i've seen videos of him playing on music man amps and even a 80s peavey, and they all sounded eerily similar. :P & the 5150III are disgustingly digital btw. hope that helped as well, i kinda a VH freak :P but yea, jashobbsie is definitely correct!
The variac story was a scam. It browns the sound a little but not nearly enough to make a stock plexi sound like VH first record. Eddie's plexi was highly modded and he even admitted it early on but tried to take it back later. Early pictures of the amp clearly show an added master volume.
@jashobbsie holy! this sounds great... I was not very secure of this pedal because there are some other reviews that sound awful but this is great. Is it too much to ask if you could give me the settings youre using in the pedal and in the amp?? Thanks again bro!
One more thing! I use a 15 watt all valve class A custom built amp! its loud enough :) and when I play live in a big area! I just mic it up and it sounds great :) you dont need to have a 20000 watt marshall turbo destroy rig :) LOL! unless your doing stadium tour???? and to make people deaf :)
I use a class A all valve amp and I love it BUT id like to stick up for some guys here! not everyone can afford a top notch amp! so don't dig at guys that love their pedals man! its all good! just have fun! theres never a right sound! if your just a kid reading my comment! dont listen to the 'KNOW IT ALLS' go with how you feel! dont think you have to spend a ton of money on equipment! check out GGG pedals! you can build high quailty pedals at great prices! if you know how to use a soldering iron
Oh I forgot, sorry, Great playing man! Sounds nice. I like that you're playing a strat as well, shows how diverse your good ol strat can be, kind of curious what pups are in it?
As far as the "one trick pony" comment, I'd say that depends on the player more than anything. I 'spose you could say Hendrix was a one trick pony since he played Hendrix music and it was as diverse as Hendrix was capable of being... as is the case with most players.
In that sense Steve Vai is a one trick pony because all he does is bang on his whammy and weedle-de-wee on the upper register. Is that right? Maybe not.
@DarthKazi Some of these guys do get stuck in their playing limits but I agree with you that you shouldn't label them. Maybe they chose to be stuck? BTW Hendrix could have played anything he chose, he could have bent any style into submission then set it on FIRE! ; )
of course you can. No distortion is coming from the amp. its all the pedal. all you need is a amp with a nice clean channel. and dude 22 watts tube is definitely loud enough. anyway, it doesn't matter how "powerful" your amp is. A pedal like this will work perfectly.
No lol, a fender amp uses 6L6 tubes which are warmer and more throaty. Anything Marshall uses EL34 or 84, which are british voiced tubes. Also, speakers play a huge role in the overall tone of your sound. But what you said had nothing to do with tone and quality of sound. You were talking about power. Which honestly doesn't really matter with pedals. Unless you are using a 5 watt tube amp. which is still freakin loud, but doesn't have near the amount of clean headroom as a 100 watt marshall head
Eh... maybe to a non-discerning player/listener, but REAL amp distortion (that is, the tubes being on the verge of self-destruction) cannot be replicated any other way but to crank a real tube amp. Period.
Just get a Marshall with a Variac (90 volts input setting) and crank everything to 10.
some people cant just "get" a marshall dude. The new DSL2000 series sounds like crap. The only way to get the classic marshall grind is to buy a JCM800 or JTM45. Which are most definately not cheap. Personally I think Marshall's are overrated and cliche. They are pretty much a one trick pony. Compared to a nice boutique amp from Divided by 13, a Marshall stack sounds like garbage, er, butt rock garbage.
I think you missed my point. Ed's "sound" was a culmination of a mildly modified Marshall, low-output PAF humbucker and a few effects here and there... in addition to his playing technique. Trying to simulate the "brown sound" with a pedal is akin to trying to simulate real sex with masturbation.
But that aside, I am not an advocate of cranking an amp up to the point of near death, since most of us cannot afford said classic Marshall or the vastly overpriced boutique amps like Divided by 13.
with a humbucker you should be fine...it all depend too what kind of amp you put it through, i don't crank my gain on the pedal too high...max 70%....this is a great buy if you like this sound..
I'm actually using a marshall tsl 100 on the clean channel, this is a jcm 2000 model through a 4 x 12 cab loaded with celestion t75's..thanks for watchin and the comment
Great Video!!! do you know which model pinnacle you are using? there are about 4 of them that brian made- you's sounds the best!! FYI-great playing! The analog echo pedal you are using-is that in the effects loop or straight in the amp???
man, I must have sold about 50 of these boxes for brian by posting this video, he should send me a free pedal, don't you think? haha!....i'm more than happy to help you. mine is a more recent pinnacle. I am putting the analog echo thru the effects loop. this is a keeper! both are great pedals! the one with the dual switch must be nice too....
Not sure if you have a pic of your pinnacle pedal. is it the small box version- or the larger box version. I have a couple of older marshall 100 watt heads- i love them. but I go out and use my C-30 matchless head! I play it on 15 watts! it is as loud as my 100 watt marshall in the 30 watt mode!! The analog echo does sound outstanding. you would think that brian would send you some free stuff!!!HaHa!!!!
awesome tone! i've been having some issues getting a clean sound that works well with my pedals. do you have any suggestions as far as the eq and the gain level on the clean channel?
well I try to keep the EQ flat as possible on the amp. The gain on my amp was cranked and volume wherever needed. I found this was best for me. I let my pedal really push my amp at low distortion setting, so when i increase distortion i don;t have to max the distortion out to get a good crunchy sound...hope that helps.
thanks. yea, i realized that because im using the cheaper MC marshall cab that i really need to back off of the trebble and presence. I never thought of doing that with the gain though, thanks.
Thanks for the honest review..I have the tsl601c.This is what ive been looking for....Have you ever used a clean boost or overdrive in front of this pedal. Thanks Jimmy
i actually have a lil marshall practice amp and i worked most of the summer to get the tone and im never gonna chenge those knobs bcuz i got EVHs sound
you're right! This pedal won't substitute a marshall plexi but it sure as hell beats lugging around a head and cab to get a marshall sound, believe me i've done it time and time again, gets tiring. thanks for the comment.
The pedal sounds great but what about your amp settings? I mean the tone is also made up of your amp settings along with the pedals settings. So what are your amp setting along with the pedals to make the tone?
DUDE!
You have definitely done it!
Those sounds are outstanding.

Right, hot rails. Either way, it sounds good.

Replacing tubes is one thing, but causing a meltdown of the plate and transformer as well as the tubes is quite another... speakers as well.
So I'm not saying we should all crank to 12 instead of buying a pedal. I'm saying you can't get 'THAT SOUND' with a stomp box. And that's OK...

The pedal sounds great but what about your amp settings? I mean the tone is also made up of your amp settings along with the pedals settings. So what are your amp setting along with the pedals to make the tone?
