What Kind Of Viola Do You Use BratschenMeister?, I'm Considering Doing Viola Instead Of Violin Because I Love The Sound, In All Songs I've Heard On Viola, So Could You Tell Me What Your Viola Is Please?
...Enchanting Playing, Your fingers Danced On The Strings And The Bow Kept Calm Control On The Viola, As Should Be, Your Stance Was Great, Please Keep Playing,
Thank you so much! i'm using this for my audition tape for the Philadelphia music festival summer camp. i think thats what its called. i couldnt get the trill just right but now i've got it thank you thank you thank you!
I'm Auditioning for TYSA(tacoma youth symphony ansemble) and I'm using this peice and you don't know how much you are a life saver to me haha, anyways thank you and you've done an AMAZING job! THANKS
I play the cello and i have a audition for the P.G County orchestra and this is my audition piece. Hopefully, listening to your wonderful playing on violin will help my tone and those awful sixteenth notes : ) thx for all your help
Very nice and legato. I prefer to do it a bit more staccato. I'm not exactly sure, but the way you play it sounds a like your violin is really deep. I find that strange because when I play it, it sounds high pitched.
I am learning this on viola right now, so decided to see what you're doing. So glad you posted all these....are you switching to 3rd position on that run in the middle. It doesn't look like it, but that is what Suzuki has...I think you are a Suzuki teacher?...so I am wondering. Thanks!
Congratulations on your solo! I find that many students have crooked bows because the violin is not held correctly. First make sure you have good posture and a slight bend in your knees. The weight of your body should be distributed equally in your feet from toe to heel. If your knees are locked, your weight shifts forward and you'll be slightly off balance all the time. Make sure you hold the violin high on your shoulder, not on your chest.
Your chin will end up being centered on the violin. Don't try to fit your jaw into the chinrest. The shape of the chinrest is misleading. Lastly, make sure that your left arm is brought in front of you. The violin should be at a 45 degree angle from where your belly button is facing. If the violin is held too far to the left, it's impossible to keep the bow straight. Repositioning the violin with the chinrest end back on your shoulder and the scroll at 45 degrees should do the trick. Good luck!
u play this song amazingly, i have this project at school and im playing this song but i need to analyze this piece by hearing a professional soloist playing it would u fall under that and if not can u please tell me a professional soloist who plays this song. i would really appreciate it :)
Thanks for watching. I'm glad my videos help. You should also purchase and listen to the official Suzuki recording. I'm always surprised by how many players do not listen to the pieces they are learning. It's so important to know how the piece goes even before beginning to practice it. Good luck!
Hey I love your videoes and some people are just not giving you enough credit. I mean I got like about 10 times better by listening to you (but I'm still not THAT great) Anyway, I think you should smile more. Great Video! Along with other ones
Yes, I could go slower; however, this is the tempo that I felt was appropriate based on the tempo marking. When I create my videos, I am attempting to offer a "finished product" performance.
i play the violin, but the viola has always had an allure of its own to me...ive always wanted to play it. . .i love this song, its by far one of my favorite pieces to play...and you play it simply beautifully sir ^_^
Your videos are wonderful. You play beautifully and I often watch your videos again and again while I studying a piece (I am just finishing vol. 2). Any chance you might consider making video of you performing the Gossec Gavotte in vol. 1? ; ) P.S. I enjoy your kind and thoughtful comments to your audience and the enthusiastic squawks of your bird!
Thanks for answering. I play the viola. I used to play in the symphony many years ago when teen, but nomore. I live in Argentina. If you want to contact me pls send me a pvt message and I ll send you my e mail.
Thanks for your question. I actually didn't shift there. I used a 4th finger extension to reach the F. When I made this video, I was reading from the violin edition, which has no shift. This extension is a bit of a stretch on the viola which is why the viola edition has a shift. I intend to redo this video and follow the viola edition fingering. Sorry about the confusion. If you shift, you should practice a group of 8 notes (4 notes before and 4 notes after the shift).
Practice these 8 notes slowly and shift slowly and securely. Your hand should slide up the neck and memorize exactly how far to go. Once you've figured out exactly how far to shift to play the D in tune, practice it slowly over and over again. It's important to repeat the motion correctly many times. Don't simply figure it out and repeat it a few times. Many correct repetitions are needed in order to train your hand and fingers to play the shift and the following notes correctly.
I will if I can ever get movie maker and my camera working. I looked up that song and found it and I'm working out how to play it. I'm gonna add you to my friend list okay?
I haven't played the violin for almost a decade and whenever I think of re-learning it this song is always the first one to come to mind. And you played it so beautifully! Thank you for uploading this video.
Im playing this for my Solo at school =P I have to start practicing it hahaha... I have to play it in like 5 weeks.. =P Im having problems with the shifting part.. I can play it, but im just slow at it, I just have to practice my shifting and I could play it normally.
For anyone that thinks this is hard.. It really isn't -.-;; I can't believe im playing this for my solo in high school... 9th grade.. ehh.. its a easy A xD
Gavotte by Lully is slightly harder. Depending on the fingering used, there is either a shift to 3rd position or a 4th finger extension in measure 22. The bowing and slur combinations in measures 10-11 are more complicated than those in the Gavotte from Mignon. Aside from these tricky spots, they are similar in difficulty.
thanks SO much for posting this! your amazing! im playing this for solo and ensemble and with your help I'll be pretty good at it, but your hackin AMAZING!
Really Nice video but don't you have to shift in the viola book? But that doesn't matter it's still really good and the tone is beautiful! BTW do you have any tips on keeping you bow from hitting other strings cause I have some trouble on keeping my bow on the d string instead of on the d and g string. If you can help then thanks! Again great video!
Thanks! Yes, there should be a shift. I was reading from the violin edition at the time. I will redo this one in the future. As for hitting other strings, it sounds like you're either crossing too far when you have a crossing or you're not moving the bow in a straight line accross the string. Try playing long legato strokes on two strings (open or octaves) simultaneously. Make sure you're hearing both strings balanced at all times.
If the tone is balanced, you're bowing in a straight line. Train your bow arm to move this way and you'll avoid slipping to other strings during a bow stroke. Also practice legato strokes on consecutive strings DADADADA first up-down, then down-up. Keep the string crossing as compact as possible - only go as far as you need to. After each string crossing you should be close to the string you just left without actually touching it. This teaches you just how far apart the strings are. Good luck!
