People think its part of the form It was what Yip man used to do because his arms on the dummy wear loose so he would push them in after every section.
Very precise and crisp hand techniques. But, there's no horse. Maybe this was just testing the dummy or something, but a proper horse stance in wing chun is a must. Otherwise it's like having a car with no wheels. Have to bend knees a little to get rooted.
@kurosakilito Horse Stance? Wing Chun's main structure is not rigid and wide. Its narrow and feet are kept at shoulder width. This is to allow better awarness of the center line and to keep your balance well without compromising your center line. Hope this helps.
I've read the comments and would like to state that you did a great job on finding the perfect places to punch. Those that come from strictly hard styles can't comprehend the method of training slow and deliberate, then fast and sloppy (been there in my GoJo training wihen I was young). There comments are baseless, and they will comprehend why you do that when they are in there sixties. Hard styles have their height, then steady decline in ability. Wing chun is very differnet, hard and soft!
Dead in combat? Don't judge by just what you see here. This is actually a practical study in biomechanics, positioning, focus, timing, energy and enchaining the moves.
Training scales is not singing.
If you want to know more, seek a reputable wing chun school and talk to the instructors. A simple sparring session will show you how wrong you are.
If you have no understanding about something, and you SINCERELY would like to know, why not find out for yourself. Someone can tell you what the "soft" punches and kicks are, but you still would not understand. If you think it is no use, why not have a friendly sparring match with a good Ving Tsun practioner. When I want to learn something, I go to the best possible that I can learn from. Whether I get beat or not, I get to see where MY skills are. That way I can grow, and get better.
I happen to have a Sifu, a rather talented Sifu at that - and even more lucky is the rest of the very talented kung-fu family i'm blessed to have in the Moy Yat family. From Moy Bah Hugh(Pete Pajil), or William Moy, or Miguel Hernandez, ect ect. Garbage is your lack of constructive criticism comment.
Three very strong words "Consider before you Contradict". Without understanding the purpose in the energy played, you have no opinion to give - except a blind one.
This mannequin, is like "template engine" it greatly helps to learn basic movements, which once automathed can be performed at MUCH MORE greater speed. But once again, first learn the basic movements, then start increase power and speed. In total there are 116 mannequin movements.
what is the point of pushing the sticks up and down? What does it exactly train that can be used in the real combat? I don't think these soft touches soft punches and soft kicks have much of a use.

I'm impressed, it's nice to see someone concentrating on getting the moves right rather than trying to break wood and look tough.

When training the sequence, power has no place. This was taken when I was maybe 4 months into my jong training.
