I'm trying to suss out how to make my Nocturn trigger loops in ableton and I just can't quite get it.

I've sussed out how to make it control instrument and effects parameters, but not triggering loops or scenes. The Manual doesn't help much.

Can anyone enlighten me please?

@SONGSTICKS Hate to say it mate, but given the lack of buttons I don't think you'll be launching many clips with it .. From what I can see its geared towards controlling parameters rather than clips, good luck all the same though.

hey i have a question about the novation nocturn-- i want to use it just to play around on some wobbles. how does it feel? are there grooves that the knob will fall into for 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, etc.. or is it a free slide knob?

I just saw the Novation Nocturn and was kind of impressed. But I got a question: does the controller and its Automap software work with any DAW out there? I heard ProTools being mentioned, and I guess it'll certainly work under Live as well, but as a FL Studio user I'm a little bit scared :)

@kubalibre77 x64 plugins are support by Automap. They can be wrapped and controlled.

This works awesome in Logic 9. But it sucks balls in Serato Scratch Live 2.0.

Would it be possible to hook this up to my hardware synth via USB to control it during a live show?

@scaryfishdude for this you would need to use a MIDI interface and then use Automap's MIDI client to send messages out of the MIDI port to your hardware synth.

No MIDI interface needed. Just go to Automap software and set automap midi output chan to (i.e 16) then set hardware to channel 16 and it should work

Automap Logics own instruments only works in Logic 9 and not in Logic 8 :-(

Can you use this without using automap eg. just midimap everything yourself? If yes are the bottom "dedicated buttons" Able to midimap?

The Nocturn can only be used with Automap but, using a MIDI client, you can use it to send standard MIDI messages. The bottom row of buttons are not assignable.

im trying to use automap iphone on reason but it won't find any midi in or out put ports in setting up control surfaces. i cant find any tutorials about troubleshooting on this so does anyone know what to do? help appreciated

Please ensure you have the latest version of Automap, then follow the DAW setup guide for the nocturn on Reason from the main menu of Automap

Yes, it can be used with Ableton live via Automap's MIDI client.

Yes, the nocturn can be used to control 3rd-party VSTs in FL studio. Also, using a MIDI client in Automap, controls can be assigned to control functions in FL studio.

excellent guide, I looked at this instead of the manual. although it would be great if automap worked better with DX plugin's as some things I use are only a DirectX version . sort that out and it will be a lot cooler, instead of having to use it via midi =)

Only 8 of the 16 buttons can send out midi messages the other buttons are for controlling the auto-map... so not impressed - it would not take much for Novation to change this... lets hope they do.

That's too bad. And I guess the speed-dial knob cannot send out midi messages either so only 8 out of 9 knobs assignable?

Your 100% right there, you cannot even select the type of midi message that is put out. Like you cant make the knobs send relative messages they will only send standard 0-127 message. This device needs some serious software overhauling, but novation has released the unit not and isn't interested in fixing their mistakes.
